ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (October 22, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: BTS and Lauv make a stand at the format, while a bunch of new releases break into the mix with a top five start. Let’s add ’em up:

STARTING ON THE “RIGHT” FOOT: The K-pop stars known as BTS had a solid opening week for their Lauv-assisted version of “Make It Right”, a new release last Friday, which picked up 45 stations during the session. Ed Sheeran co-wrote the track, which made its debut (as solely a BTS song) earlier this year. Blackbear‘s “Hot Girl Bummer” earned another 29 stations this week for a third place finish, tying it with Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber‘s “10,000 Hours”, which finally had its official impact here.

A pair of newcomers to the format, Tones And I and PUBLIC, finished the day in fifth and sixth place with “Dance Monkey” and “Make You Mine”, respectively. “Dance” (at 21 stations) has become a global smash in the last few months, hitting #1 in well over a dozen countries, including Australia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. “Make” (at 14 stations) has steadily earned an audience via the video app TikTok, which continues to drive interest in viral songs.

Recent releases from Billie Eilish, Charlie Puth and Post Malone are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

The new track from Selena Gomez, which is due tomorrow, will be the likely champion on next week’s report. “Lose You To Love Me” received a handful of early adds this week.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN

2. BILLIE EILISH
, “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” (Darkroom/Interscope)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (October 15, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Post Malone posts two great totals for impacting songs, one from his set Hollywood’s Bleeding and the other as a featured artist, but he doesn’t end up at the top spot with either! Let’s add ’em up:

HITTING THE POST: After scoring a massive 70 stations last week, Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber‘s “10,000 Hours” earns a still-impressive 50 stations in its second week, making it the Most Added title at the format. The track also led the Hot AC log from yesterday afternoon, where it scored 23 additional adds. Considering that the official adds date for this single at both radio formats was originally intended for next week, I’d say that it’s probably not necessary at this point: “10,000 Hours” will continue to fly.

Of course, this means that two impacting songs by or featuring Post Malone had to settle for slightly lower positions in the top five. Starting with a solid 45 stations, “Take What You Want”, Malone’s main-credited collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott, ended up taking the runner-up position. Two spots lower, the performer’s feature on French Montana‘s “Writing On The Wall” (which also features Cardi B and Rvssian) gained another 31 adds after some early action in the last couple of weeks. With the latter title already charting as of last weekend, look for the former to bounce into the top 50 within the next few days.

Recent releases by Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Niall Horan are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

Look out for the latest single by Blackbear (at #7 this week) to earn a higher total on impact next week.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. DAN + SHAY featuring JUSTIN BIEBER, “10,000 Hours” (Warner)
2. POST MALONE featuring OZZY OSBOURNE & TRAVIS SCOTT, “Take What You Want” (Republic)
3. BILLIE EILISH, “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” (Darkroom/Interscope)
4. FRENCH MONTANA featuring POST MALONE, CARDI B & RVSSIAN, “Writing On The Wall” (Epic)
5. NIALL HORAN, “Nice To Meet Ya” (Capitol)
6. CHARLIE PUTH, “Mother” (Artist Partner/Atlantic)
7. BLACKBEAR, “Hot Girl Bummer” (Alamo/Interscope)
8. LIZZO, “Good As Hell” (Nice Life/Atlantic)
9. DIPLO & JONAS BROTHERS, “Lonely” (Columbia)
10. ANUEL AA, DADDY YANKEE, KAROL G, OZUNA & J BALVIN, “China” (Real Hasta La Muerte)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (October 13, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. As Columbus Day comes around again, let’s sail the ocean blue for hit records and all the stats you need from the charts. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

IT KEEPS RIGHT ON A-HURTIN’: Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” narrowly earns a fourth week at #1 on the Top 40 radio list, landing a mere 16 spins ahead of the song at #2: the former chart-topper “Señorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Lizzo’s smash is also back up a notch to #4 on the Rhythmic chart and leaps from 7-5 at Urban radio. This will almost certainly be the final week at #1 for the single here on the pop radio chart, but for just her second chart entry ever, it was a giant breakthrough. Look for “Good As Hell” to continue to perform here through the holidays.

Four new tunes enter the top 40 on this week’s chart. The highest, debuting on the entire chart at #30, is “10,000 Hours” by the duo Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber, who earn their third and 26th top 40 entries, respectively. This collaboration is now in the top 40 at three radio formats, with both Country and Hot AC programmers showing the song some love in the last couple of weeks. Making a move from 42-32, it’s “Lonely” by Diplo and the Jonas Brothers. Their collaboration marks the sixth solo appearance in the top 40 for Diplo and the tenth for the trio, four of which have come this year. Billie Eilish checks in at #37 with “All The Good Girls Go To Hell”, her third top 40 entry to date. It’s also in the top 20 on the latest Alternative chart update, where the singer has scored two #1 singles this year. Finishing things up with a small rise from 43-40, Lauv and Anne-Marie each score their fifth top 40 hits with “F**k, I’m Lonely”, taken from the soundtrack to the third season of 13 Reasons Why. Lauv is continuing to put out new tracks from his forthcoming album ~how i’m feeling~, a set on which this single also appears, due March 6.

Things aren’t nearly as exciting in the top 50 this week, but one of this coming Tuesday’s impacting songs breaks in at #45. “Writing On The Wall” is the new hit by French Montana, which also features Post Malone, Cardi B and Rvssian. Four spots lower, the DJ Snake, J Balvin and Tyga collaboration called “Loco Contigo” checks in at #49. The tune has never had an official impact date at the format, though it’s been steadily accumulating a handful of adds each week for some time now.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (October 8, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Niall Horan has a particularly “Nice” start this week for his latest single, leading a pack of three future hits that earned well over 65 adds during the session. That’s pretty big! Let’s add ’em up:

“MEET” ME AT THE TOP: Pacing just ahead of the competition, former One Direction member Niall Horan’s new song leads this week’s adds report at the Top 40 format. “Nice To Meet Ya” starts with 109 stations on impact. It also topped yesterday’s log at the Hot AC format, where it earned another 26 adds. The track debuted at #36 on last Sunday’s published update; it should rank at a slightly higher position by this coming weekend. (It’ll also crack the top 40 at the latter format.)

Climbing quickly at the Country, Hot AC and Top 40 formats simultaneously, the new release by Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber comes alive on the pop airwaves ahead of its official impact date in two weeks. “10,000 Hours” debuts with 70 stations this week, a very strong start that places it in the runner-up spot. Look for the single to be a major hit at all three formats through the winter.

After entering the top ten on last week’s log, Billie Eilish‘s “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” gains another 67 stations this week. It ranks in third place here and spends a second week at the top of the Alternative radio report, where it posts another 20 stations.

Recent releases by Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Why Don’t We are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

Look out for new singles by Charlie Puth and French Montana to impact at the format next week; the latter song has appeared in the top ten on the report for the past two weeks.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. NIALL HORAN, “Nice To Meet Ya” (Capitol)
2. DAN + SHAY featuring JUSTIN BIEBER, “10,000 Hours” (Warner)
3. BILLIE EILISH, “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” (Darkroom/Interscope)
4. FRENCH MONTANA featuring POST MALONE, CARDI B & RVSSIAN, “Writing On The Wall” (Epic)
5. LIZZO, “Good As Hell” (Nice Life/Atlantic)
6. MAJOR LAZER featuring J BALVIN & EL ALFA, “Que Calor” (Mad Decent/in2une)
7. DIPLO & JONAS BROTHERS, “Lonely” (Columbia)
8. WHY DON’T WE, “What Am I” (Signature Ent./Atlantic)
9. BEBE REXHA, “You Can’t Stop The Girl” (Warner)
10. TAYLOR SWIFT, “Lover” (Republic)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (October 6, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. As the leaves start to turn different colors, a colorful pack of new songs have started to fall onto the pop chart. Let’s see what’s popping at the Top 40 format this Sunday:

WHAT “HURTS” THE MOST: Lizzo‘s big hit “Truth Hurts” continues at #1 on the Top 40 list for the third consecutive week, as it remains in the top ten at Hot AC, Rhythmic and Urban radio. On the pop chart, it remains above 19,000 spins for the week, losing less than 2% of its airplay from week-to-week. Lewis Capaldi‘s “Someone You Loved”, a recent #1 single on the Hot AC chart, may start to creep up on the top spot by next weekend, but it’s still more than 1,800 spins away from the summit as of the current chart.

One Direction‘s Niall Horan blasts in with his sixth solo top 40 hit (19th including the group’s run of charting songs) at #36. It’s titled “Nice To Meet Ya” and it leads his upcoming studio album, due sometime early next year. The high debut for it is partially due to hourly airplay upon its release on Friday. Australian band 5 Seconds Of Summer moves from 44-37 with their tenth top single to date, “Teeth”, which can be found on the soundtrack to the new season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. The recent top five hit on the Rhythmic and Urban radio charts for Megan Thee Stallion also becomes her first top 40 single on the Top 40 airwaves: “Hot Girl Summer” lifts from 42-38, which features Nicki Minaj, earning her 38th top 40 hit, and Ty Dolla $ign, who grabs his seventh.

Leading off the week’s top 50 entries is the Diplo and Jonas Brothers collaboration called “Lonely”, which bows at #42. The tune was last week’s Most Added title at the format. A couple of spots lower, Bebe Rexha‘s “You Can’t Stop The Girl” checks in at #44, a single from the soundtrack to Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (which opens in about two weeks.) Niall Horan’s former bandmate Liam Payne bounces in at #45 with the A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie-assisted “Stack It Up”. Lastly, starting at #49, “Takeaway” finds The Chainsmokers and Illenium collaborating with newcomer Lennon Stella, who previously charted at the Country format as one half of the duo Lennon & Maisy.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (October 1, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Diplo and the Jonas Brothers head down to the record ranch and get a ride to the top with a solid first-week total for their new collaboration. What else is in the mix? Let’s add ’em up:

THE LONE-LY RANGER: Scoring 77 stations on impact, “Lonely” from Diplo and the Jonas Brothers certainly isn’t alone at the Top 40 format this week. With three top ten hits in a row this year, including the chart-topping “Sucker”, the trio is still on fire and this track should fly up the chart in the coming weeks. Another cut from Diplo’s forthcoming Thomas Wesley project, the Morgan Wallen-assisted “Heartless”, is currently receiving airplay at the Hot AC format (but has not charted as of yet.)

No other impacting songs were included on the schedule this week, but the new radio hits by Billie Eilish and French Montana (both of which officially head for adds later this month) entered the top ten with some notable early action. Eilish’s latest single has already topped the weekly adds report at the Alternative format, where it could become her third consecutive chart-topper.

Recent releases by Bebe Rexha, Lizzo and Maroon 5 are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

Along with Eilish’s reactive new song, the new single by AJR could also stir up some seasonal action at the format next week.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. DIPLO & JONAS BROTHERS, “Lonely” (Columbia)
2. MAROON 5, “Memories” (222/Interscope)
3. LIZZO, “Good As Hell” (Nice Life/Atlantic)
4. FRENCH MONTANA featuring POST MALONE, CARDI B & RVSSIAN, “Writing On The Wall” (Epic)
5. BEBE REXHA, “You Can’t Stop The Girl” (Warner)
6. MILEY CYRUS, “Slide Away” (RCA)
7-T. 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, “Teeth” (Interscope)
7-T. ARIANA GRANDE, MILEY CYRUS & LANA DEL REY, “Don’t Call Me Angel” (Republic)
9. KYGO x WHITNEY HOUSTON, “Higher Love” (RCA)
10-T. BILLIE EILISH, “All The Good Girls Go To Hell” (Darkroom/Interscope)
10-T. LIAM PAYNE featuring A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE, “Stack It Up” (Republic)
