RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (June 27, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Let’s uncover the habits of hit songs and see what’s popping at the format this weekend:

LEAPIN’ WITH LIPA: For the third and final week, Dua Lipa holds at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Levitating”. The smash drops to #2 at the Hot AC radio format. However, Lipa is making some leaps with “Love Again”, the next single from her Future Nostalgia album. The tune officially hits the pop airwaves following the holiday weekend for Independence Day, but due to its recent action just below the top 50, it could be charting as soon as next weekend.

Tate McRae and Khalid are “Working” for the weekend, as their collaboration makes a massive jump from 43-24 on the chart. It’s the third top 40 hit at the format for McRae and the 12th for Khalid. Right behind them, Ed Sheeran blasts in at #25 with “Bad Habits”, becoming his 22nd chart hit. The song also enters the Hot AC radio chart within the same region, landing at #23 after just two days of airplay.

From her recent album Planet Her, which is looking at a top three entry on the Billboard 200 chart, Doja Cat is in at #41 with “You Right”, a collaboration with The Weeknd. The tune is also picking up significant early airplay at the Rhythmic and Urban radio formats. Coming in at #44, Tones And I is back on the survey with “Cloudy Day”, the new single from her Welcome To The Madhouse album. The forecast calls for a sunny chart run ahead of the project, which comes out in three weeks. Finally, if you’re looking for a little dessert to finish our musical meal, “Jalebi Baby” enters at #47 for newcomer Tesher and chart mainstay Jason Derulo. The single (in its original form) recently experienced a tasty viral moment on TikTok.

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Everybody’s working for the weekend chart update, so let’s hit the list and check out what’s popping at the format:

DUA IT AGAIN: For the second week in a row, Dua Lipa lands at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Levitating”, finishing a bit over 2,000 spins ahead of the song at #2. “Levitating” also leads the chart at the Hot AC format for a second week and remains active in the top ten at AC radio.

Tai Verdes has the only new song in the top 40 with “A-O-K”, leaping from 45-39. It’s his first top 40 hit at the format. The single entered at #30 on the Alternative radio chart last week due to a new music integration program, but falls out of the region on the current update.

Girl In Red starts at #47 with “Serotonin”, which holds at #7 on the Alternative radio chart. One of 2021’s top breakouts is in at #48 with her new entry: of course, Olivia Rodrigo with “Traitor”. RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (May 2, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s pop chart is feeling more powerful than before, so here’s what’s feeling the force at the format this week:

AS “TEARS” GO BY: “Save Your Tears” is safe for a second week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart, as The Weeknd‘s hit continues to climb in airplay at the format. The song also holds at #2 on the Hot AC chart, just behind labelmate Taylor Swift‘s “Willow”. As for next week, the pop chart is looking peachy, but we can wait on that one…

In the top 40, Regard, Troye Sivan and Tate McRae bounce from 41-32 with “You”, earning the three artists their third, sixth and second top 40 hits, respectively. After debuting on Thursday, Billie Eilish powers through the top 40 and into the #34 spot with “Your Power”. The song becomes her seventh top 40 entry and third from her upcoming album Happier Than Ever. Lifting from 43-39 on the list, AJ Mitchell makes it into the region with “Stop”, which goes ahead to become his fourth top 40 hit. Finally, TikTok stars Nessa Barrett and Jxdn enter the top 40 with the collaboration “La Di Die”, a recent top 20 single on the Alternative chart, which jumps from 48-40. This is the first top 40 song on the pop airwaves for both performers.

Newcomer Sara Kays leads another handful of releases making their first entry into the top 50 at the format, with “Remember That Night?” coming in at #46. Her song has already reached the top 15 at the Triple A format. Mooski lands at #48 with “Track Star”, which is now at #2 at the Urban format following a viral moment earlier this year. Finally, Veronika is in at #49 with “Homesick”.
