RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, April 15-21, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CONFETTI – “When I Grow Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: One previous mention, “People Suck” (February 2018)
Notes: Though not nearly as polarizing as their last release, the new song from this act is just as fun, touching on a universal theme.

_____

RYAN PULFORD – “Better Off Alone” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: Originally a SoundCloud discovery from a couple of years back, Pulford’s first release since 2016 is a super house music jam.

_____

ZAYDE WØLF – “Rule The World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous mentions, “Higher Than High” (October 2017) being the most recent entry
Notes: With another hit to howl about, that Wolf man returns with this anthemic and energetic release. (We’ll rate his record high.)

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BAHARI – “Savage”
CRUISR – “Mind Eraser”
JOHNNY STIMSON – “End Of Time”
JON LEMMON – “Something True”

_____

FRILLS – “She’s Got Love” (Spotify)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of April 13, 2018

He’s back in Town.

Coming to a town near you… only the best releases by the artists you know and love. (Just make sure you spend some of your tax refund on music, okay?) Here are the albums and singles you need to check out on digital services and in stores this Friday:

JASON ALDEAN – Rearview Town (iTunes)
Riding high on the Country survey with his smash “You Make It Easy”, Aldean is looking for his fourth consecutive #1 album of the decade. Driven by pure album sales rather than extensive streaming, it could accomplish that goal, though recent chart-topping sets from Cardi B and The Weekend may provide a bit of drama along the way. Stay tuned to see what happens.

BAZZI – Cosmic (iTunes)
Streaming breakout Bazzi has crossed over to the national charts with the hit “Mine”, and his first full-length release features a selection of proven winners, along with some new material to balance it out. Given his presence in the streaming world, expect this set to produce a big album-equivalent total, making a higher debut likely.

Notable albums out this week: Breaking Benjamin‘s Ember (iTunes), Isaac Gracie‘s Isaac Gracie (iTunes), Pentatonix‘s PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I (iTunes), Sofi Tukker‘s Treehouse (iTunes), Tinashe‘s Joyride (iTunes)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of April 6, 2018

No need to keep this schedule private; the public needs to know about these hot new releases! Here are the albums and singles you need to check out on digital services and in stores this Friday:

CARDI B – Invasion Of Privacy (iTunes)
After a giant breakout year in 2017, this performer continues to deliver with her debut project, which features “Bodak Yellow” and “Bartier Cardi”, a collaboration with 21 Savage. With massive streaming potential, and a solid sales total, this set will likely top the album chart on next week’s update (and might reign for more than one week.) Look for potential boosts to come from a highly-anticipated performance on Saturday Night Live and a co-hosting slot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night.

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS – America (iTunes)
Featuring the Alternative hit “Walk On Water”, which spent four weeks at #1 on that survey last fall, and current single “Dangerous Night”, the current set from this trio should become their first top ten title in nearly five years (and perhaps their first top five album ever.)

VARIOUS ARTISTS – Restoration / Revamp: Reimagining The Songs Of Elton John And Bernie Taupin (iTunes) (iTunes)
Ahead of Elton John: I’m Still Standing – A Grammy Salute, which airs Tuesday night on CBS, these two compilations hit the market. The former set features largely country acts, while the latter set features a mix of pop, rap and rock artists.
