RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/19 – 2/25/17

Record Rewind - February 26, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

BEN HOBBS – “Shame” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This is the third time on the Rewind for London singer Hobbs, who last appeared in October with the song “Take The Blame”. At this point, I think I’m probably verging on a stan. Anyways, for me, this tune recalls 1987 in pop music, which makes for a fantastic result.

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Just The Same” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major’s had a major presence on the Rewind with his lovely lunar project, and his latest piece of moon music is a super blend of R&B and gospel roots, mixed with a hint of pop. The pure and emotional cut is one of his best of the set so far. Can’t wait for the next one.

_____

EMMA DEWING – “Buttons” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Making her debut on the Rewind is a California singer that got a SoundCloud repost from me in 2016 on her remake of 1991’s “Don’t Cry” by Guns N’ Roses. Her latest single is a change of pace, a bouncy bop that’s equal parts poppy and theatrical. Watch out for her.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Benjamin Poss – “Brainwashed” (SoundCloud)
BIYO – “Focus” (SoundCloud)
Daniel Feels x Robert Gillies – “On My Way” (SoundCloud)
Lyon Hart – “Delusional” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of February 24, 2017

Ready to paint the Town.

Ready to paint the Town.

We all try to look to the future in some way or another, but this week, we can really look to the Future (and plenty of other acts!) on the new releases schedule. Here are some of this week’s new albums and singles:

LITTLE BIG TOWN – The Breaker (iTunes)
From “Better Man” to even better results, this group’s newest hit looks to be a multi-week #1 on the Country radio chart. Though the set may fall short of #1 on the Billboard 200, it’ll definitely be a strong chart-topper on the Country albums list. It should be another great era for the quartet, who released their first album in 2002.

FUTURE – HNDRXX (iTunes)
I know what you’re saying: “Didn’t he just release an album last week?” He did. Going for two consecutive #1 albums in two weeks is a huge challenge, but this Atlanta rapper certainly has the potential to do it. He does face some competition, however, so stay tuned!

JOHN MAYER – The Search For Everything – Wave Two (EP) (iTunes)
Another month, another Mayer EP. This blog certainly approves! This one features the single “Still Feel Like Your Man”, one of four new songs. It should start out in the top five, just as his last EP did. It’s one of our top choices for the week.

More albums out this week: Aaron Watson‘s Vaquero (iTunes), Old 97’sGraveyard Whistling (iTunes), Prince Royce‘s FIVE (iTunes), The Shack (Soundtrack) (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/12 – 2/18/17

Record Rewind - February 19, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JESSIE EARLY – “Holy Ghost” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Nashville native Early came to our attention a few weeks ago with a track called “Heart”, and we were happy to see that a dreamy pop song of hers also dropped during the week, mixing 80’s melodies and 90’s vocal stylings. Check out her Wild Honey EP on March 31!

_____

PAPERWHITE – “Human Nature” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Siblings Ben and Katie Marshall have had plenty of reposts on our SoundCloud page, and a number of songs on our Spotify playlists, but this is their first tune to be released while the Rewind has been around. As always, the synth-pop duo has some killer production.

_____

SARAH SOLOVAY – “Rough Draft” (iTunes) (Spotify)
New York singer/songwriter Solovay last released new music during the year PGTC began: 2012. Yes, the wait’s been real, but all the pop goodness of a single like this is also really real. We’re looking forward to much more from her. (P.S. Go see her live, she’s great!)

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Jenna Kyle – “Lovelorn” (SoundCloud)
Nicholas Roberts – “The Pioneers” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of February 17, 2017

A look into the Future...

A look into the Future…

Try to wrap your head around all these rap releases… some big names are in the mix this time around! For more Friday fun, here are some of this week’s new albums and singles:

FUTURE – Future (iTunes)
The release of this set was announced just days ago, but it looks like it could be the highest new entry (and likely #1) on the Billboard 200 next week. No tracks from it are currently on the radio, with “Used To This” remaining a stand-alone release, but I’m guessing a few of them will show up on the charts within the next few days. Look for a massive streaming presence for this album.

FAT JOE & REMY MA – Plata O Plomo (iTunes)
From last year’s “All The Way Up” to current single “Money Showers”, the two New York rappers have found some major success on the Rhythmic and Urban formats, which comes years after their last notable radio hits. Full of plenty of featured guests, this is likely to achieve some good numbers and placement next week. Just how high will it go? Stay tuned.

RYAN ADAMS – Prisoner (iTunes)
This is singer/songwriter Adams’s first studio album since the fall of 2015, and with four top ten albums to date, he’s hoping to make it five with this one. Lead single “Do You Still Love Me?” seems to have stalled just under the top ten on the Triple A chart, so I guess the answer is “maybe not.” However, the album should still have a solid debut.

CHARLIE WILSON – In It To Win It (iTunes)
Wilson, the former leader of The Gap Band, recently scored another top ten solo single on the Urban AC chart with “I’m Blessed”. At the current time, it’s at #10 and gaining. The 64-year-old singer’s album should debut in the top 40, perhaps closer to the top 20.

More albums out this week: Alison Krauss‘s Windy City (iTunes), Jidenna‘s The Chief (iTunes), Nikki Lane‘s Highway Queen (iTunes), The Orwells‘s Terrible Human Beings (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Animal Collective‘s The Painters (iTunes), Bebe Rexha‘s All Your Fault: Pt. 1 (iTunes), Jessie James Decker‘s Gold (iTunes), Maggie Rogers‘s Now That The Light Is Fading (iTunes), The Unlikely Candidates‘s Bed Of Liars (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
“A Kindly Reminder”, Passenger (iTunes)
“All On Me”, Devin Dawson (iTunes)
“Bite My Tongue (Kat Krazy Remix)”, The Beach (iTunes)
“Cold”, Maroon 5 featuring Future (iTunes)
“Empty”, Olivia O’Brien (iTunes)
“Everyone’s Talking”, James Hersey (iTunes)
“Ex”, James TW (iTunes)
“Fragments”, Jack Johnson (iTunes)
“Game Time”, Flo Rida featuring Sage The Gemini (iTunes)
“Giants”, Take That (iTunes)
“Hard To Love (Acoustic)”, Matthew Koma (iTunes)
“Heartlines (Acoustic)”, Broods (iTunes)
“Heaven”, Mokita (iTunes)
“Heavy”, Linkin Park featuring Kiiara (iTunes)
“How Would You Feel (Paean)”, Ed Sheeran (iTunes)
“I Don’t Wanna Dance”, Coin (iTunes)
“In The Arms Of A Stranger (Grey Remix)”, Mike Posner (iTunes)
“It Ain’t Me”, Kygo featuring Selena Gomez (iTunes)
“London”, Maty Noyes (iTunes)
“Love Less”, R.LUM.R (iTunes)
“Machine”, Misterwives (iTunes)
“Nimble Bastard”, Incubus (iTunes)
“Options”, Pitbull featuring Stephen Marley (iTunes)
“Praying”, Tom Grennan (iTunes)
“Rough Draft”, Sarah Solovay (iTunes)
“Suit And Jacket”, Judah & The Lion (iTunes)
“Till You’re Loved”, Mr. Probz (iTunes)
“Time Of Our Lives”, James Blunt (iTunes)
“When Someone Stops Loving You”, Little Big Town (iTunes)

We’ll see you next week for new albums from Aaron Watson, Little Big Town and more. Listen to the PGTC Friday Faves list on Spotify!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 2/5 – 2/11/17

Record Rewind - February 12, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JOE HICKS – “Best Clothes” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Hicks is a new name for the Rewind, but I think he’s got a sound that’ll stick around for some time on my radar. The retro-tinged jam is equal parts soulful and soft rock, and seems to be picking up some love on SoundCloud. All in all, “Clothes” dresses up very nicely.

_____

MARC SCIBILIA – “Summer Clothes” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s sure nice to have a bit of “Summer” in the middle of winter. Nashville’s Scibilia is doing pretty well for himself as an independent artist, having reached a million streams on two of his songs that were self-released last year. The acoustic pop track is worth a listen.

_____

RAINSFORD featuring SWIMSUIT ISSUE – “Sweet Spot” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Five months ago, this Los Angeles performer last appeared on the Rewind with a great single called “Too Close”. Needless to say, I’ll satisfy my “sweet” tooth’s craving with this delight, which should be another blog hit. The tropical influence on this tune is excellent.

_____

WILD – “Hold Us Together” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been a minute since this Los Angeles trio caught my attention, but I really enjoyed their EP All We’ll Ever Have, especially tracks like “Silver & Gold” and “Where Love Lives”. Their radio-ready sound comes through again, a nice blend of light folk and bright pop.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Adam Friedman – “Signals” (SoundCloud)
Benji Lewis – “Drift” (SoundCloud)
FRND – “Substitute” (SoundCloud)
LEVV – “Collateral Damage” (SoundCloud)
Lukr – “Astronaut” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of February 10, 2017

The Shades is real.

The Shades is real.

Our new releases post will see you now… or rather, you’ll see our new releases post now. Whatever the case may be, this set of fresh releases before the GRAMMY Awards has many great titles. Here are some of this week’s new albums and singles:

VARIOUS ARTISTS – Fifty Shades Darker (Soundtrack) (iTunes)
Led by the hit ZAYN and Taylor Swift duet, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever”, this set full of stars is likely to top the album chart next week. The original Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack, which included several big hits, became one of the top-selling albums of 2015. I think the film’s opening on Friday will contribute to some sales and streaming surges over the weekend, but just how high will it go?

RAG’N’BONE MAN – Human (iTunes)
The title track from this promising newcomer’s album has been on top of my personal chart for five big weeks, and it may just secure another week at the top come Sunday morning. Two of my favorite Jamies, Hartman and Scott, put in work on this album, and it’s at the top of iTunes charts in over 25 countries already. It should also make a decent splash here.

ANDREW MCMAHON IN THE WILDERNESS – Zombies On Broadway (iTunes)
McMahon recently hit the top ten on the Alternative radio listing with “Fire Escape”, his first since “Cecilia And The Satellite” in May of 2015. Of course, you probably remember how slow of a run that had. He’s likely due for another top 40 (or a first top 20) album.

BRETT YOUNG – Brett Young (iTunes)
Young took his time and hit the top of the Country radio chart late last year with “Sleep Without You”. His latest single at the format is “In Case You Didn’t Know”, and it could be headed to #1 as well. Look for it to top the Country Albums list next week.

More albums out this week: Lupe Fiasco‘s DROGAS Light (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Aaron Carter‘s LøVë (iTunes), Adam Friedman‘s Green (iTunes), Lukr‘s Heartbreak Mixtape, Vol. 1 (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:
“Chained To The Rhythm”, Katy Perry featuring Skip Marley (iTunes)
“Collateral Damage”, LEVV (iTunes)
“Distance”, Omarion (iTunes)
“Don’t Kill My Vibe”, Sigrid (iTunes)
“Ego”, Milky Chance (iTunes)
“Firetruck”, Vice featuring Sage The Gemini & TK Kravitz (iTunes)
“Flip Phone”, Fetty Wap (iTunes)
“I Don’t Know Why (Danny Avila Remix)”, Gavin James (iTunes)
“It Takes Two”, Carly Rae Jepsen and Lil Yachty (iTunes)
“Just A Man”, SoMo (iTunes)
“Oceans Away (Mansionair Remix)”, A R I Z O N A (iTunes)
“Shape Of My Heart”, Theory Of A Deadman (iTunes)
“Shape Of You (Acoustic + Galantis Remix)”, Ed Sheeran (iTunes)
“Substitute”, FRND (iTunes)
“Summer Clothes”, Marc Scibilia (iTunes)
“Temperamental Love”, Bridgit Mendler x Devontée (iTunes)
“Tethered”, Rationale (iTunes)
“The Way I Are (Acoustic)”, Leo Stannard x Carmody (iTunes)
“Wind In My Hair”, Mandy Moore (iTunes)

We’ll see you next week for new albums from Charlie Wilson, Ryan Adams and more. Listen to the PGTC Friday Faves list on Spotify!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/29 – 2/4/17

Record Rewind - February 5, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Like Someone In Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Well, the fabulous and talented Major can now say he’s been on the Rewind with both original tracks and covers. Over the years, this song has been released in versions by Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and more. You can add this remake to the good ones.

_____

STOLAR – “Paralyzed” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The music of New York City’s Jay Stolar has been featured on both our SoundCloud and Spotify feeds in the past, but he’s beginning a new chapter with the release of his latest song. The R&B-influenced pop tune brings the edge, but also feels accessible. Good work.

_____

SVRCINA – “Deeper” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Nashville’s Molly Svrcina last appeared on the Rewind in July with “Island”, but the young singer is building some momentum in the streaming world. To date, she’s accumulated over five million plays on Spotify. A soaring vocal and bold production make this shine.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
George Ogilvie – “Foreign Hands” (SoundCloud)
James Gillespie – “What You Do” (SoundCloud)
Kevin Garrett – “Pulling Me Under” (SoundCloud)
Lonely Benson – “Strawberry Afternoon” (SoundCloud)
Satchmode – “Love Hz” (SoundCloud)
