ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (September 29, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: we find some fast adds for Travis Scott‘s fast food, which certainly helps to nourish the Top 40 panel. Let’s add ’em up:

A LOT FOR SCOTT: Travis Scott’s “Franchise”, a collaboration with Young Thug and M.I.A., is the week’s Most Added song at the Top 40 format with 56 stations on impact. It earns an additional 60 adds at the Rhythmic format and 63 on the Urban report.

The rest of the top four also consists of new entries: Bastille‘s “Survivin'”, which earned a third place finish at both the Alternative and Hot AC formats, was a survivor and started in second place here with 28 adds in its first week. Why Don’t We‘s “Fallin'” took the third position with 26 stations this week, just six hours after the tune was released. Look for it to score even more action during next week’s session, when it officially impacts at this format. Finally, Ali Gatie and Alessia Cara‘s collaboration “Welcome Back” was welcomed solidly by the Top 40 panel, settling in fourth place with 25 adds from the panel.

Charting singles from Madison Beer, Sam Smith and Zoe Wees returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

Next week: the aforementioned Why Don’t We, as well as Dua Lipa, will be falling into place on the log with plenty of new adds.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (ELEVEN)
1. TRAVIS SCOTT featuring YOUNG THUG & M.I.A., “Franchise” (Cactus Jack/Epic)
2. BASTILLE, “Survivin'” (Republic)
3. WHY DON’T WE, “Fallin'” (Signature Ent./Atlantic)
4. ALI GATIE featuring ALESSIA CARA, “Welcome Back” (Warner)
5-T. SAM SMITH, “Diamonds” (Capitol)
5-T. TATE MCRAE, “You Broke Me First” (RCA)
7. ZOE WEES, “Control” (Caroline)
8. MADISON BEER, “Baby” (Access/Epic)
9-T. JUSTIN BIEBER featuring CHANCE THE RAPPER, “Holy” (Def Jam)
9-T. MACHINE GUN KELLY x BLACKBEAR, “My Ex’s Best Friend” (Bad Boy/Interscope)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are two singles impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

ALI GATIE featuring ALESSIA CARA – “Welcome Back” (Warner)
Album: TBA (2020)
Past T40 History: Gatie and Cara’s most recent chart entries here peaked at #34 and #28, respectively, during the past 12 months.

TRAVIS SCOTT featuring YOUNG THUG & M.I.A. – “Franchise” (Epic)
Album: TBA (2020)
Past T40 History: This collaboration charted just outside the top 50 for yesterday’s official update, but it’ll debut by next weekend.

Why Don’t We will have one of the songs fallin’ onto the adds report next week with their new release.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (September 27, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Before you go looking at any other radio list tonight, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

ANOTHER “GO” AROUND: Lewis Capaldi holds at #1 on the Top 40 chart with “Before You Go”, its second week at the top. A new #1 is on the horizon, however, as Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo‘s song “Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat)” (rising 3-2) is ready to make the leap. Capaldi’s track is now in its 37th week in the top 40, which is one week more than his previous #1 single “Someone You Loved” spent in the top 40 at this format.

There’s very little action at the bottom of the chart this week. Conan Gray has the only top 40 entry with “Heather”, up 42-40. This is his second top 40 entry at the format; in May, “Maniac” got to #37. Additionally, Madison Beer has the sole top 50 debut at #48 with “Baby”. About six months ago, “Good In Goodbye” peaked at #42.

Just ahead of a new remix featuring rapper DaBaby, this week’s higher of two debuts is Dua Lipa‘s “Levitating” at #39. Coming in one spot lower is Harry Styles with “Golden”. The #40 entry has not been officially confirmed as a radio single yet, but it’s earning some good airplay in several U.S. markets.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (September 22, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Justin Bieber and Sam Smith witness some triple-digit love at the Top 40 format, but which of their diamonds is the jewel of the panel? Let’s add ’em up:

O “HOLY” FIGHT: The race was tight for the week’s Most Added single, but in the battle of the one-word titles, “Holy” found the faith to blast past “Diamonds”. Bieber and Chance The Rapper‘s new collaboration together secured 165 stations on impact, just ahead of Smith’s still impressive 145. The pair of pop winners are already well into the top 40 at this format and should continue to make some moves through the fall. On Monday, “Diamonds” snuck ahead of “Holy” to become the Most Added track at the Hot AC format, but the top spot on today’s report at the Rhythmic format went to “Holy”.

Last week’s top song, Marshmello and Demi Lovato‘s “OK Not To Be OK”, settled for third place with 29 more adds this week.

Charting singles from Tate McRae and Zoe Wees returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for more adds action!
