NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of August 17, 2018

A sweet escape for summer.

Following the death of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, fans of the performer have sent her classics up the charts with no end in sight. It’s bound to be an interesting week on the Billboard 200, especially with some top new releases out now. These are the notable digital and physical releases headed into the market this Friday:

ARIANA GRANDE – Sweetener (iTunes)
Grande’s new album includes the songs “No Tears Left To Cry” and “God Is A Woman”, and features collaborations with performers like Missy Elliott and Nicki Minaj. Given the sales and streaming momentum related to the death of Franklin, a full week of data may be enough for one of her many hits compilations to pull ahead of Grande’s set. It’s just too early to tell at this point. In any case, Sweetener will almost certainly be the highest-charting new release of the week.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of May 6, 2016

Listening All Night and all day.

“Here” to entertain.

May the 6th be with you… eh, I guess it doesn’t work. Luckily, many of these new releases do work, including two major Country albums and a deeper dive into one singer’s current pop prescription. Here are this week’s new releases:

  • KEITH URBAN — Ripcord (iTunes)
    • You don’t see a lot of albums released after three radio singles nowadays, but Urban waited it out, and his album is now in stores. His current release at Country radio, “Wasted Time”, is just outside the top ten at the moment. That collaboration with Pitbull, co-produced by Nile Rodgers, is sure to be… interesting. Anyways, Urban’s set is likely to be the highest debut on next week’s Billboard 200, likely in the top five.
  • COLE SWINDELL — You Should Be Here (iTunes)
    • Last month, Swindell topped the Country airplay chart with the title song from his sophomore album. Now, he’s in the hunt for his next #1, perhaps with follow-up single “Middle Of A Memory”. You’ll find Dierks Bentley on one track, but most of the 14 cuts are sung by Swindell himself. Look for it to debut in the top ten (if it’s not top five.)
  • MIKE POSNER — At Night, Alone. (iTunes)
    • It was this week in 2010 that Posner’s breakthrough hit, “Cooler Than Me”, first entered the top 40 on CHR radio. Now, he has the biggest single of his career with a remix of “I Took A Pill In Ibiza”. Both that version, as mixed by a Norwegian duo named SeeB, and the original can be found on this album.
  • GOO GOO DOLLS — Boxes (iTunes)
    • Three decades after first forming, the Buffalo act is still going strong, recently reaching the top 20 on Hot AC radio with “So Alive”. They’ve had a nice run of top ten albums with their studio sets, and we’ll see if this can continue it.
  • More albums out this week: Andy Black‘s The Shadow Side (iTunes), Anohni‘s Hopelessness (iTunes), Cyndi Lauper‘s Detour (iTunes), Gregory Porter‘s Take Me To The Alley (iTunes), Holy White Hounds‘s Sparkle Sparkle (iTunes), KAYTRANADA‘s 99.9% (iTunes), Rooney‘s Washed Away (iTunes), Angry Birds (iTunes)
  • More EPs out this week: MUNA‘s Loudspeaker (iTunes), Vérité‘s Living (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Burn The Witch”, Radiohead (iTunes)
  • “Can’t Stop The Feeling”, Justin Timberlake (iTunes)
  • “Dark Necessities”, Red Hot Chili Peppers (iTunes)
  • “Darker Than Dawn”, Cobi (iTunes)
  • “Fragile”, Prince Fox featuring Hailee Steinfeld (iTunes)
  • “Grass Ain’t Greener”, Chris Brown (iTunes)
  • “Happy”, Annabel Jones (iTunes)
  • “Hotter Than Hell”, Dua Lipa (iTunes)
  • “Into You”, Ariana Grande (iTunes)
  • “In Common”, Alicia Keys (iTunes)
  • “Me Too”, Meghan Trainor (iTunes)
  • “Take That”, CRUISR (iTunes)
  • “Talk Too Much”, COIN (iTunes)
  • “What Is And What Should Never Be”, Train (iTunes)
  • “Write On Me”, Fifth Harmony (iTunes)
  • “You And Me”, Marc E. Bassy featuring G-Eazy (iTunes)

We’ll see you next week for new releases from Jennifer NettlesKygoMeghan Trainor and more.

TURN IT UP TUESDAY: What’s New In Stores This Week (February 18)

Nothin' but the Cole story.

Nothin’ but the Cole story.

The schedule’s a bit on the light side this week, but perhaps you can catch up on some old favorites, as well as all the new stuff in stores today, February 18:

  • Eric Church will likely land a second week at #1 with The Outsiders, but right behind him should be another hot Country act, newcomer Cole Swindell. He’s been a writer in the Country community for many years, and now his self-titled debut album is out today, featuring the hit “Chillin’ It”. Look for it to debut somewhere in the top ten. (iTunes)
  • Filling your music competition fix this week, check out Music Speaks from American Idol champion Candice Glover. Lead single “Cried” is receiving some limited airplay on the Urban AC chart. It will likely mark the lowest opening week ever for a debut effort from a winner of the show, but that’s what happens when the project is doomed from the beginning. (iTunes)
  • For the latest indie bands on the rise, dig into Bear Hands‘s Distraction (iTunes) and Phantogram‘s Voices (iTunes). “Giants” from the former and “Fall In Love” from the latter band are both climbing up the Alternative survey.
  • Other releases out this week include: Bayside‘s Cult (iTunes), Sean Paul‘s Full Frequency (iTunes), Suzanne Vega‘s Tales From The Realm Of The Queen Of Pentacles (iTunes) and We Are The In Crowd‘s Weird Kids (iTunes).

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Calling All Hearts”, a collaboration between DJ Cassidy, Jessie J and Robin Thicke. (iTunes)
  • “Gimme Your Love”, the debut single by R&B singer Kesington Kross. (iTunes)
  • “Heartbreak Dream”, the first single from Betty Who‘s forthcoming first studio album. (iTunes)
  • “I Wanna Get Better”, the debut single from rockers Bleachers. (iTunes)

Next week, be on the lookout for top releases from Beck, Dierks Bentley, The Fray and more. See you in seven!
