ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (June 30, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez bring some needed life to the report in the form of a song. Who else is livin’ for their adds? Let’s add ’em up:

“PAST” IS THE FUTURE: The updated version of Trevor Daniel’s “Past Life”, featuring pop star Selena Gomez, easily leads this week’s Top 40 adds report with 70 stations in its first week. Notably, the single’s official impact date here is currently listed for two weeks from today. With all this early momentum, the collaboration should be well into the top 40 by the weekend, as Daniel’s song “Falling” continues its run in the top three.

Two other building collaborations reach the top five on the log this week: Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo‘s “Savage Love” secures another 34 adds and a second place finish, while Regard and Raye‘s “Secrets” takes third place with 24 stations on impact. There are several more impacting or newer releases just behind those three, including tracks from Jack Harlow, StaySolidRocky and The Killers, which are all listed below.

Charting singles from DaBaby and Gabby Barrett returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap post-holiday weekend, featuring the latest single from Ava Max and the official impact of the aforementioned Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo hit.

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are the four songs impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

CHRIS BROWN x YOUNG THUG – “Go Crazy” (300 Ent.-RCA)
Album: Slime & B (2020)
Past T40 History: Currently in the top ten on both the Rhythmic and Urban charts, this could earn some decent crossover airplay.

REGARD & RAYE – “Secrets” (Epic)
Album: TBA (2020)
Past T40 History: This collaboration is in its second week atop the Dance radio chart. Regard’s hit “Ride It” made the top 20 here.

STAYSOLIDROCKY – “Party Girl” (Columbia)
Album: TBA (2020)
Past T40 History: The format newcomer is looking to party on, with his song falling just outside the top 50 for the past few weeks.

THE KILLERS – “Caution” (Island/Republic)
Album: Imploding The Mirage (2020)
Past T40 History: The recent #1 at the Alternative and Triple A radio formats could become the band’s first top 40 hit since 2009.

Next week, Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo are ready to savagely attack the adds report with a viral hit, as Ava Max is hoping to be named the queen of the list with her latest single. Find out how they fare next Tuesday.

Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. NO END TO THE WEEKND: He’s back! The Weeknd returns to #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Blinding Lights”, giving the song its fifth nonconsecutive week at the top. WOLF – “Play Dead” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

New York singer/songwriter Julia Wolf has been putting out some really great music so far this year, including her last two releases “Ghost” and “Pillow”, which both were included in the Rewind. The mellow sound of this song is fresh yet familiar and quality stuff.

Taylor Swift‘s “Cruel Summer” kindly takes the Biggest Mover title, moving up from 37-30 in its second week in the countdown. Songs from Kacey Musgraves and Ava Max are new to my list on this update: the former’s “Oh, What A World” enters at #38, just ahead of its impact at the Triple A format, while the latter’s “Kings & Queens” jumps in at #39, which is looking for some royal Top 40 adds in early July.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (June 21, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Writing about music and radio charts at the moment is a bit strange, but for petition and donation resources in the fight against racial inequality in our country, please go to this website and do what you can. Here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

INTENTIONAL CHANGES: Scoring his eighth #1 hit on the Top 40 chart, Justin Bieber lands at the top spot with the Quavo-assisted “Intentions”, up from 3-1. The track comes from his most recent album Changes, a former #1 set on the Billboard 200 chart that also gave us a very quick #11 entry from January in “Yummy”. The collaboration also reaches the top five (up 6-5) at the Hot AC format this week.

After a crazy week last time around, there’s much smaller action to talk about in the lower rungs of the chart. Moving into the top 40 this week, Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey‘s “The Other Girl” leaps from 42-39. The collaboration becomes their second and 15th top 40 hits, respectively. Sneaking into the top 50 ahead of its impact date later this month, “Go Crazy” from Chris Brown and Young Thug launches at #50. The song currently sits in the top ten on both the Rhythmic and Urban charts.

Check out our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages for more chart coverage and commentary.
