ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (September 28, 2021)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: radio really wants Lil Nas X and the feeling is mutual. Let’s add ’em up:

“WANT” FLAUNTS: The third top 40 song from Montero is a smash on the pop airwaves, as Lil Nas X claimed the top spot on this week’s adds report at the Top 40 format. “That’s What I Want” scored 73 new stations during today’s session, which was ten adds ahead of the song that settled into the runner-up spot: “My Universe”, the buzzy collaboration from Coldplay and BTS. Given its 63 adds on impact, the tune should chart in the coming days.

Outside of the top three, new releases from GIVĒON, The Anxiety and Troye Sivan also entered the top ten for the first time.

Charting singles from the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber and Walker Hayes returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for another action-packed adds session.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. LIL NAS X, “That’s What I Want” (Columbia)
2. COLDPLAY x BTS, “My Universe” (Parlophone/Atlantic)
3. JONAS BROTHERS, “Who’s In Your Head” (Republic)
4. DRAKE featuring FUTURE & YOUNG THUG, “Way 2 Sexy” (OVO/Republic)
5-T. JUSTIN BIEBER, “Ghost” (Def Jam)
5-T. TROYE SIVAN, “Angel Baby” (Capitol)
7. GIVĒON, “For Tonight” (Not So Fast/Epic)
8. ELTON JOHN & DUA LIPA, “Cold Heart” (Mercury/Interscope-Warner)
9-T. THE ANXIETY (WILLOW & TYLER COLE), “Meet Me At Our Spot” (MSFTS/Roc Nation/in2une)
9-T. WALKER HAYES, “Fancy Like” (Monument/RCA)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are five singles impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

COLDPLAY x BTS, “My Universe” (Parlophone/Atlantic)
Album: Music Of The Spheres (2021)

GIVĒON, “For Tonight” (Not So Fast/Epic)
Album: TBA (2021)
Past T40 History: This performer led the Top 40 list for four weeks earlier this year assisting Justin Bieber on the track “Peaches”.

LIL NAS X, “That’s What I Want” (Columbia)
Album: Montero (2021)
Past T40 History: Lil Nas X just picked up his sixth top 40 hit with this song, which is also the third from his new album Montero.

THE ANXIETY, “Meet Me At Our Spot” (MSFTS/Roc Nation/in2une)
Album: The Anxiety (2020)
Past T40 History: This duo features Willow, who holds in the top 50 on the list with her Travis Barker-assisted “Transparentsoul”.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (September 26, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For the justified jumps and more, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

LET’S “STAY” TOGETHER: Their enduring radio smash is titled “Stay” and it seems like The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber are doing it, as they and their collaboration earn a fourth week at #1 on the Top 40 chart. The cut is down about 300 spins, but it remains above 19,000 total again this week and nearly 1,900 ahead of its nearest competitor.

Rising from 50-31 to score their 14th top 40 hit at the format, the Jonas Brothers are off to a very fast start with “Who’s In Your Head”. Lil Nas X is also seeing some major support for “That’s What I Want”, which debuts at #33 this week. It’s his sixth top 40 song to date and third from his recent album Montero, which just debuted at #2 on the latest Billboard 200 update.

Two solo women have this week’s entries in the top 50: Kacey Musgraves lands at #45 with “Justified”, while Nessa Barrett starts at #46 with “I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead”. Musgraves is looking for her first top 40 entry at the format, while Barrett is going for her second.

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: the Jonas Brothers are in your head and the top spot on the adds report. Let’s add ’em up:

“WHO’S” AT NUMBER ONE: The latest single from the Jonas Brothers got a head start on the competition and took the top spot on this week’s log. “Who’s In Your Head” secured 89 stations on impact at the Top 40 format, adding onto the 22 stations that it received at the Hot AC format yesterday in a second place finish. Look for the song to make a larger move on both charts this week.

Charting singles from Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran and Walker Hayes returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for another action-packed adds session.

1. JONAS BROTHERS, “Who’s In Your Head” (Republic)
2. LIL NAS X, “That’s What I Want” (Columbia)
