RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 17, 2022)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Get ready, because this chart’s about to blow:

“ENERGY” SOURCE: With her recent chart-topper at both the Rhythmic and Urban formats, Latto jumps from 2-1 on this week’s Top 40 chart with “Big Energy”, available in both her original solo version and a remix with Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled. Carey topped the chart for six weeks during the fall of 1995 with her own “Fantasy”, which contains the same Tom Tom Club sample as Latto’s current single.

Flying in with her sixth top 40 entry, recent Saturday Night Live host and musical guest Lizzo lands at #37 with “About Damn Time”, which is taken from her upcoming album Special. The ninth solo top 40 hit for Pharrell Williams is “Just A Cloud Away”, which rises from 43-39 this week. The track was originally recorded for the soundtrack to 2013’s Despicable Me 2 and exploded on TikTok earlier this year. Debuting at #40, Jack Harlow has the final top 40 entry of the week with “First Class”, marking his third top 40 song to date. It’s expected to enter at #1 on the next edition of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lauv returns to the pop chart with a new label and a new song. “All 4 Nothing (I’m So In Love)” comes in at #43 this week, which topped the adds report at the format this past Tuesday. Rapper Russ, who was last in the top 50 during the spring of 2020, enters at #48 with his recent viral hit “Handsomer”. Finally, Jackson Wang sneaks in at #50 with “Blow”, which should pull in some additional adds on Tuesday.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 5, 2022)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Harry Styles nearly closed the panel in stylish fashion. Let’s add ’em up:

“WAS” WINS: Harry’s House is in the house at the Top 40 format, as the first single from the forthcoming Harry Styles album had a huge day on the adds report with 174 stations reporting on impact. The robust total is just three adds shy of clearing the panel in one week, a very impressive feat. At the Hot AC format, the song was added at 81 of the 94 stations on the panel yesterday. On the pop chart, the song started at #26 on last weekend’s published update, becoming the seventh solo chart entry for Styles to date.

Shawn Mendes also had a fairly strong first week for “When You’re Gone”, which earned 129 stations and a second-place finish. The track took the runner-up position at the Hot AC format yesterday with 51 adds there. It recently became his 13th top 40 hit to date.

Charting singles from Doja Cat, Em Beihold and Pharrell Williams also returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for another action-packed adds session.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. HARRY STYLES, “As It Was” (Erskine/Columbia)
2. SHAWN MENDES, “When You’re Gone” (Island/Republic)
3. DOJA CAT, “Get Into It (Yuh)” (Kemosabe/RCA)
