ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (November 30, 2021)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Adele opens her bottle of bops for a refreshing record at the top. Let’s add ’em up:

“OH” SAY, CAN YOU STREAM: With her follow-up to “Easy On Me”, superstar Adele took the top spot on the adds report with “Oh My God”, securing 105 stations at the Top 40 format this week. The song ranked at #38 on the chart last weekend, becoming her 11th top 40 hit to date. Her recent album 30 is expected to hold atop the Billboard 200 chart for a second week.

Back in the runner-up spot, Taylor Swift picked up another 43 stations for “Message In A Bottle” this week. The single from Red (Taylor’s Version) has been joined by a handful of other songs from the album at the format, including a re-recording of “All Too Well”, which led the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month.

A week ahead of impact, “Abcdefu” scored 35 new stations at the format, giving newcomer GAYLE her first top five appearance on the adds report in the #3 position. The recent viral hit has become a global streaming smash and should do well at several radio formats into 2022.

Charting singles from ACRAZE, Benson Boone and Billie Eilish returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for another action-packed adds session.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 28, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For some heat waves and hits for a cool end of November, it’s time to see what’s popping at the format this week:

A DOZEN REASONS TO STAY: “Stay” extends its stay at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for a twelfth week, as the enduring track from The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber continues to perform very well at the format. As noted last weekend, “Stay” now ties the plays-per-week era record for the most weeks at #1, first accomplished by Donna Lewis in November 1996 with “I Love You Always Forever”. Will the two men establish another piece of chart history next week, or will Adele‘s “Easy On Me” (up 3-2) ease up a notch and take the top spot? Stay tuned…

Due to several weeks of strong airplay following a resurgence on TikTok and streaming services, “Heat Waves” re-enters the list way up at #8 for Glass Animals. The song previously peaked at #14 earlier this year.

In other Adele news, she debuts at #38 with the second single from her new album 30. “Oh My God” is her 11th top 40 entry to date.

Newcomer Benson Boone debuts at #46 with “Ghost Town”, while Taylor Swift slides into the top 50 with her re-recorded version of “All Too Well” at #50. The latter single recently started at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, boosted by an extended rendition that runs just over ten minutes in length.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 21, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For a musical and monetary experience, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

THE KID STAYS AROUND: Back at the #1 spot on the chart, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber score an 11th nonconsecutive week at the summit with “Stay”. The smash extends its reign as the longest-running #1 tune at the Top 40 format this year. “Stay” is also a week away from tying the plays-per-week era record for the most weeks at #1 on the survey, a feat established by Donna Lewis in November 1996 with “I Love You Always Forever”.

The duo Silk Sonic (consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak) rises from 44-28 on the chart with “Smokin’ Out The Window”, the third top 40 hit from the duo’s An Evening With Silk Sonic album. Individually, it’s their 24th and third chart entries, respectively. Up 46-39, “Message In A Bottle” gives Taylor Swift her 34th top 40 single to date. The song can be found on Red (Taylor’s Version), which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

LISA is counting coins and chart positions, as she lands at #43 with “Money”. It’s the first solo appearance for the BLACKPINK member. A remix of “Do It To It” starts at #46, as producer ACRAZE makes his debut. The tune also soars from 4-1 on the Dance radio chart. The group who originally sang it (Cherish) is credited in a featured role: their original track reached #6 in August 2006. Finally, “The Weekend” is new to the top 50, as the collective 88rising and soloist Bibi settle into the #50 spot.
