RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (March 27, 2022)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s chart is all dressed up and fashionably fun:

CASE OF THE X: Lil Nas X holds at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “That’s What I Want”. It’s his third nonconsecutive week there.

Taken from the soundtrack to HBO’s Euphoria, “I’m Tired” jumps from 41-36 for Labrinth and Zendaya, as the two performers score their fourth and third top 40 hits, respectively. Next, “Mamiii” rises from 42-38 for Becky G and Karol G. It’s their fifth and first top 40 songs on the chart, respectively. (Sadly, there’s no word on a remix with Gina G and Kenny G at this time.) Finally, Eddie Benjamin is up from 43-40 this week with the meteorological and musical-approved “Weatherman”, which becomes his first top 40 hit.

Four songs enter the top 50 this week: “To The Moon” is the highest at #43, as newcomer JNR Choi debuts with his recent viral release. The tune samples “Talking To The Moon”, a Sam Tompkins cover of a popular Bruno Mars album cut. Chart mainstay Doja Cat lands at #45 with “Get Into It (Yuh)”, the fifth single from her Planet Her album at the format. Newcomer Charlotte Sands is new at #48 with “Dress”, a song which originally broke on TikTok in late 2020. Finally, The Weeknd is in at #50 with “Out Of Time”, taken from his Dawn FM album.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (March 13, 2022)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This week’s chart may be the sweetest of the month…

YOU’VE GOT GAYLE: 17-year-old GAYLE spends a third (and likely final) week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Abcdefu”. The single is headed for the top of the Hot AC chart, advancing from 5-3 this week.

The latest baked treat served hot and fresh on the chart is “Sweetest Pie”, a collaboration from Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa at #33. It’s their seventh and 17th top 40 hits at the format, respectively. Em Beihold rises from 41-36 with her viral hit “Numb Little Bug”, her first top 40 hit ever. Lastly, Tyga and Doja Cat jump from 47-40 with “Freaky Deaky”. Not so freaky: it’s the tenth top 40 single for both artists.

A couple of buzzing collaborations lead some entries in the top 50 this week: newcomer Omah Lay and chart regular Justin Bieber land at #46 with “Attention”, while Latin stars Becky G and Karol G start at #47 with “Mamiii”. The forecast also looks solid for Eddie Benjamin and “Weatherman”, which becomes his first chart entry at #49.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (May 17, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ahead of a competitive adds session for this coming Tuesday and the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

CAT’S ON THE PROWL: Doja Cat spends a second week at #1 on the Top 40 chart with “Say So”. Look for the follow-up single, the Gucci Mane-assisted “Like That”, to impact at the format this week after some early action on last Tuesday’s adds report.

Lil Mosey rises from 41-36 with his first top 40 entry at the format, “Blueberry Faygo”. The song samples Johnny Gill‘s “My, My, My”, which reached #14 on the CHR radio chart in September 1990. The eponymous first song from The Scotts, the duo of Travis Scott and Kid Cudi, also moves from 44-40 to give the two men their first top 40 hit as a duo.

The Jonas Brothers are new at #45 with “X”, one of two songs the guys released on Friday. The song features labelmate Karol G, whose Nicki Minaj-assisted “Tusa” landed in the top 50 earlier this year. Starting at #48, the TikTok-fueled “Don’t Rush” becomes the first charting song for the duo Young T & Bugsey and rapper Headie One. One further collaboration lands at #50: “Suda” by newcomer Melanie Pfirrman, whose song features Pitbull and his DJ IAmChino.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (February 11, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Justin Bieber grabs the top spot once again with intention, as new titles fill the top ten from top to bottom. What bops are, well, bopping this week? Let’s add ’em up:

JUSTIN TIME FOR SECONDS: Just ahead of the release of his new album Changes, Bieber’s “Intentions” leads the way at Top 40 radio this week with 130 stations on impact. The album version of the track features Quavo, though an edit without him is also available for stations. The single also leads the reports at both the Hot AC (33 stations) and Rhythmic (34 stations) radio formats.

Niall Horan ties for the runner-up spot on the report with 65 adds for “No Judgement”, the latest radio single from his upcoming set Heartbreak Weather, due March 13. The track also finished in third place on yesterday’s Hot AC log with 17 adds. “No” is likely to chart at both formats by the weekend. Following Horan’s new entry, impacting songs from Madison Beer (#5), Ali Gatie (#7) and DaBaby (#9) are all making some noise on the report and should be top 50 bound in the next week or so. Of the three, Beer is in the lead for prior top 40 songs with two, while DaBaby has one as a featured artist and Gatie has never reached the region.

Charting songs from Doja Cat, Lizzo and Selena Gomez are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

No songs are currently scheduled to impact at the format next week; we’ll see if this changes in the next few days.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. JUSTIN BIEBER, “Intentions” (Def Jam)
2-T. KHALID x DISCLOSURE, “Know Your Worth” (RCA)
2-T. NIALL HORAN, “No Judgement” (Capitol)
4. SELENA GOMEZ, “Rare” (Interscope)
5-T. DOJA CAT, “Say So” (Kemosabe/RCA)

7-T. LIZZO, “Cuz I Love You” (Atlantic)
9. DABABY, “Bop” (SCMG/Interscope)
