NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of May 25, 2018

When you’re ready, bop away.

Memorial Day calls for some music that reaches the beaches, and you can’t go wrong with a number of the selections below. These are the notable digital and physical releases headed into the market this Friday:

SHAWN MENDES – Shawn Mendes (iTunes)
The self-titled release from this Canadian singer and songwriter shall make all the young girls scream and stream with joy. The first single off it, “In My Blood”, is still gaining nicely at several U.S. radio formats, and a handful of other instant grat tracks have reacted well across the many digital services, including the Khalid-assisted “Youth”. Unless Post Malone‘s recent album decides to challenge it, you should expect Mendes’s set to be a strong contender to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200.

A$AP ROCKY – Testing (iTunes)
After two #1 solo albums in 2013 and 2015, respectively, this Harlem performer is hoping to score his third with a set that features several interesting collaborations, including artists like Lauryn Hill and Moby. With a streaming advantage, could it blow past Mendes’s album to become the top release in the land, or will it fall just short of the prize? Stay tuned.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of May 11, 2018

The moment of Puth.

Yes, Mother’s Day is approaching quickly, and while this certainly isn’t the mother of all release weeks, there are still lots of top titles to be enjoyed by both you and your mama. Here are the notable digital and physical releases making moves this Friday:

CHARLIE PUTH – Voicenotes (iTunes)
Featuring “Attention”, “How Long” and the Kehlani-assisted “Done For Me”, Puth’s new album is already packed with radio records, with a number of other cuts likely to hit the charts in the coming months. The performer’s debut album, Nine Track Mind, peaked at #6 in early 2016. Though it’ll be faced with several streaming-led urban releases as competitors, Puth’s effort has the potential to break the top five.

ARCTIC MONKEYS – Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (iTunes)
No songs from this album were issued prior to its release date, a rarity in the business nowadays, so it’ll be interesting to see how their fans react to it. (Initial critical reviews of the set range from mixed to positive.) The group’s most recent studio album, 2013’s AM, entered at #6 on the Billboard 200; their new set could be headed into the top ten as well.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of April 27, 2018

Malone again (naturally).

New post, new Post! Perhaps it’s a little oversimplified, but it is true. Send your driver for your bentley, or at least your computer or mobile device, because here are the albums and singles you need to check out on digital services and in stores this Friday:

POST MALONE – Beerbongs & Bentleys (iTunes)
In the current era of giant streaming debuts, this highly-anticipated release will likely be the latest to score hundreds of millions of streams during its first week in the market (and, ultimately, much further than that.) At 18 tracks in length, including the songs “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) and “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage), it will open at #1 on the Billboard 200 next week. Does this debut affect the artist’s previous set, 2016’s Stoney, in a positive way? How many new songs from Beerbongs will enter the equivalent Hot 100? Stay tuned.

KEITH URBAN – Graffiti U (iTunes)
If Malone isn’t your thing, then country and pop fans should welcome the latest album from Urban, which features the songs “Female” and his current hit with Julia Michaels, “Coming Home”. It should oust Jason Aldean‘s current release to become the top country album in the land next week.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of March 30, 2018

What’s new for this Weeknd.

The weekend has finally arrived, and so has The Weeknd with an unexpected gift for Passover and Easter. Don’t be melancholy; here are the albums and singles you need to know on digital services and in stores this Friday:

THE WEEKND – My Dear Melancholy (iTunes)
Confirmed mid-Thursday on his social media accounts, the Canadian superstar delivers his first album since the fall of 2016. Don’t call it a comeback, however: The Weeknd’s soundtrack hit with Kendrick Lamar, “Pray For Me”, is still performing well at several radio formats here and up north, as Black Panther continues to dominate at the box office. Few details are known about the project at this time. Look for it to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, replacing Jack White.

KACEY MUSGRAVES – Golden Hour (iTunes)
Backed by a healthy dose of critical acclaim and a passionate fan base, this album by Musgraves should become her third top five title since 2013 on the Billboard 200 chart. All three songs released prior to the album’s debut, “Butterflies”, “High Horse” and “Space Cowboy”, have performed solidly at both sales and streaming services. It’ll likely top the country-specific survey with ease.

RICH THE KID – The World Is Yours (iTunes)
After a series of notable mixtapes in the last few years, this performer puts his first studio album out into the World, featuring appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Khalid and many others. With streaming hit “Plug Walk” leading the way, look for consumption units of this effort to trend significantly higher than pure album sales.

Notable albums out this week: Ashley McBryde‘s Girl Going Nowhere (iTunes), Hayley Kiyoko‘s Expectations (iTunes), Her‘s Her (iTunes), Jukebox The Ghost‘s Off To The Races (iTunes)
