Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Normani harmonizes the hit patrol with her dazzling solo single, scoring the top spot on the weekly report. Let’s add ’em up:

SEVENTY-EIGHT IS ENOUGH: Normani’s newest single “Motivation” motivates 78 stations to report an add on impact at the Top 40 format, giving it the Most Added title this week. Following chart-topping duets with Khalid and Sam Smith, she is ready to score her third #1 song outside of Fifth Harmony this fall. An adds date at additional formats has not be announced yet; it did not place in the top ten on any other adds report this Tuesday.

The only other impacting song of note is from Katy Perry, who earns a second place finish with “Small Talk”, the follow-up to her recent top ten entry “Never Really Over”. With a total of 45 stations during the session, it should reach the top 50 by Sunday, but it will likely face some obstacles heading up the chart given her ongoing weaker research issues.

Charting releases by NF, OneRepublic and Sam Smith are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

Look for impacting singles from AJ Mitchell and Ava Max, Alessia Cara and Saweetie to bolt into the top ten next week.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 18, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For this 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the time in which I would take stock of the radio action for the week is about to begin. Let’s see what’s popping at the Top 40 format this Sunday:

“BAD” IS STILL GOOD: As she falls to #2 on the Alternative radio list, Billie Eilish‘s “Bad Guy” holds steady at #1 this week on the Top 40 chart for a second frame. The cut is already down more than 800 spins from last week, so you can expect that “Señorita” (which ranks at #3 on this update) will easily climb to the top next week for Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

Climbing from 42-38 on the chart, “Post Malone” marks the first top 40 songs for both Sam Feldt and RANI. Malone’s newest hit, the Young Thug-assisted “Goodbyes”, moves from 10-8 this week. It’s the first time that an artist has appeared in the top 40 at the same time that their name is featured in the title of a top 40 song since early 2012, when the legendary Mick Jagger was a featured artist on “THE (The Hardest Ever)” by will.i.am and Jennifer Lopez and inspired “Moves Like Jagger”, a #1 song for Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. Rising from 45-39, “Good Things Fall Apart” gives Illenium his first top 40 single here and returns Jon Bellion to the top 40 for his third appearance to date. The late Avicii also lands in the top 40 for a sixth time with the Aloe Blacc-assisted “SOS”, up from 43-40. It’s Avicii’s first top 40 single here since 2014’s “Addicted To You”, which peaked at #39. Blacc was a vocalist on his only #1 track to date, 2013’s “Wake Me Up”, though he didn’t receive a featured credit for it; thus, “SOS” is his second top 40 hit.

Headed to Country radio later this month, Maren Morris‘s new Hot AC hit “The Bones” enters at #45. Morris has been charting at the Country format since 2016, but she topped both the Hot AC and Top 40 charts last spring and summer with the Zedd and Grey collaboration “The Middle”. Viral hit “Lalala” is in at #46 for format newcomers Y2K and BBNO$. Two spots lower, another K-pop group arrives on the survey: NCT 127 bows at #48 with a new English version of “Highway To Heaven”, their first hit here. Lastly, a collaboration from actor and singer Asher Angel and rapper Wiz Khalifa enters at #50. “One Thought Away” is Angel’s first song to chart at any radio format.

This week: Ariana Grande and Social House are decorating the house here at the top for a second week, while two new titles are knocking at the door in the top five. Let’s add ’em up:

ONE CROWDED HOUSE: Despite some decent competition, Grande and Social House’s “Boyfriend” picks up 34 more adds for its second week on the survey, landing ahead of Jax Jones and Bebe Rexha‘s “Harder” in second place with a total of 24 stations during its impact week. Meanwhile, Twenty One Pilots finish in third place, only one station behind Jones and Rexha, with “The Hype”, which sees a solid increase in adds from last week’s early action. While “Boyfriend” is currently racing through the top 20 at the format, look for “Harder” and “The Hype” to make their top 50 debuts in the next couple of weeks.

Charting releases by NF, Sam Smith and Zara Larsson are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

Look for Katy Perry‘s “Small Talk” to talk its way onto more than a few Top 40 playlists next week; it had nine early adds today.

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Ariana Grande and Social House soar onto the list and into the house of hits with their reactive new collaboration. Let’s add ’em up:

A FRIENDLY START: Earning a robust 146 stations on impact, Grande and Social House’s “Boyfriend” is easily the top entry on this week’s Top 40 log. The track, which reached the top 40 on last Sunday’s published update, does not appear on a current studio album by either act. This marks Social House’s first song to reach the region at the format and their first time in the top spot on the weekly adds report. “Boyfriend” is also the week’s Most Added record on the Rhythmic radio log, scoring another 35 stations there.

The only other new single of note in the top ten is NCT 127‘s “Highway To Heaven”, which drives home a sixth place finish with 19 stations on impact. It’s the K-pop act’s first song to impact at the format. Given the tepid response, the track may experience a slow ride into the top 40, though it’s likely to pick up some additional support throughout the rest of the month.

Charting releases by Blanco Brown, Lil Nas X, Lil Tecca and SHAED are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 4, 2019)

Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. If you “Care” about all the big pop songs for the first week of August, you’re in the right place! Let’s see what’s popping at the Top 40 format this Sunday:

“I” IN THE SKY: Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber‘s huge hit “I Don’t Care” continues its run at the summit on the Top 40 list for its third week, eclipsing the 19,000 spin mark in the process (though it doesn’t set a new record.) The tune also remains strong at #1 on the Hot AC chart. With Billie Eilish‘s “Bad Guy” at just over 300 spins away now, her current #2 hit will likely replace “I” in the next few days and become official by next weekend, unless Sheeran and Bieber’s collaboration has a better hold than expected.

Christian rapper NF leaps from 47-34 with the song that becomes his fourth top 40 entry at the format, “Time”. The simple title has also appeared on the chart in the past for groups like The Alan Parsons Project and Hootie & The Blowfish, whose respective singles made the top ten in 1981 and 1996. One notch below him, “Boyfriend” debuts on the entire chart at #35 for Ariana Grande and Social House. The collaboration becomes Grande’s 22nd top 40 entry on the pop chart and the duo’s first, which comes a year after they first entered the top 50 here with the Lil Yachty-assisted “Magic In The Hamptons”. It stalled at #43. Our third and final top 40 entry this week is OneRepublic‘s “Rescue Me”, a top 20 song on the Hot AC chart that moves from 44-38 here. It’s the act’s 13th top 40 single at this format since 2007.

A handful of collaborations enter the top 50 this week, led by Chris Brown and Drake‘s “No Guidance” at #45. The song leads the Rhythmic and Urban charts on the current update. Sam Feldt and RANI, both appearing on the pop chart for the first time, dance onto the survey with “Post Malone” at #46. (Malone ranks at #11 this week with the Young Thug-assisted “Goodbyes”.) Landing at #48 is “Higher Love”, a single combining the talents of Kygo and the late Whitney Houston. Originally recorded in 1990, this cut marks the first appearance for Houston on the pop chart since 2002’s “Whatchulookinat”, which reached #46 that September. 2009 also saw her track “Million Dollar Bill” receive a little pop airplay, though it failed to reach the top 50. Finally, at #49, Illenium and Jon Bellion enter the region with “Good Things Fall Apart”, which is approaching the top ten at Alternative radio.

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: newcomer Lil Tecca is up against Sam Smith‘s not-so-sleeper hit in the race for the top spot. Will this Lil name yield big action? Let’s add ’em up:

JUST A LIL BIT SHORT: During a slower week at the format, “How Do You Sleep?” by Sam Smith was the Most Added track at the Top 40 format for a second week, earning another 33 stations. Lil Tecca’s “Ransom” finishes just five adds behind him with 28. The latter song is already well into the top 30 on the Rhythmic radio list, though its most impressive stats thus far are at streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, where it currently sits at #2 and #1 on their respective U.S.-based surveys.

After several weeks of minor activity, new titles from Kygo x Whitney Houston and Stephen Puth join the top ten for the first time. The late Houston last reached the top 50 at the format with 2002’s “Whatchulookinat”, which peaked at #46. Puth has yet to make the top 50 here, though his song “Sexual Vibe” did receive some unsolicited airplay at a handful of stations earlier this year.

Charting hits by NF and OneRepublic are among those titles holding in the top ten from a week ago, albeit with lower add totals.

With a new single from Ariana Grande and Social House ready to make the format its home, as well as rumored new music by Rihanna on the way, next Tuesday’s results will certainly be very interesting.

This week: Sam Smith tops the report, as he catches some ZZZ’s and the top spot in the world of adds. Don’t get sleepy just yet… we still have to add ’em up:

IN “DO” TIME: Coming off his two-week #1 single “Dancing With A Stranger”, a collaboration with Normani that landed at the top in May, Sam Smith had a sizable impact week for his follow-up release. “How Do You Sleep?” rested comfortably at 85 stations this week, leaping ahead of a second place finish for NF‘s “Time” (earning 52 stations) and a third place finish for OneRepublic‘s “Rescue Me” (47 stations) on the log. All three songs started below the top 50 on last Sunday’s published update, but they will grab a spot in the region by Sunday, as several older tracks will be pulled from the list. As expected, “How” will debut the highest.

Current chart hits from Blanco Brown and the Jonas Brothers are among those tunes that are stable in the top ten here on the latest adds list.

Though no releases are currently listed as impacting next week, look for songs from Ali Gatie and NCT 127, both headed for adds in two weeks, to pick up some early support.

RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (July 22-23, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are six new tracks impacting this week at the Top 40 format:
