ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (August 6, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Ariana Grande and Social House soar onto the list and into the house of hits with their reactive new collaboration. Let’s add ’em up:

A FRIENDLY START: Earning a robust 146 stations on impact, Grande and Social House’s “Boyfriend” is easily the top entry on this week’s Top 40 log. The track, which reached the top 40 on last Sunday’s published update, does not appear on a current studio album by either act. This marks Social House’s first song to reach the region at the format and their first time in the top spot on the weekly adds report. “Boyfriend” is also the week’s Most Added record on the Rhythmic radio log, scoring another 35 stations there.

The only other new single of note in the top ten is NCT 127‘s “Highway To Heaven”, which drives home a sixth place finish with 19 stations on impact. It’s the K-pop act’s first song to impact at the format. Given the tepid response, the track may experience a slow ride into the top 40, though it’s likely to pick up some additional support throughout the rest of the month.

Charting releases by Blanco Brown, Lil Nas X, Lil Tecca and SHAED are among those prominent songs making up the rest of the top ten.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. ARIANA GRANDE & SOCIAL HOUSE, “Boyfriend” (Republic)
2. SAM SMITH, “How Do You Sleep?” (Capitol)
3. NF, “Time” (Caroline)
4. LIL NAS X, “Panini” (Columbia)
5. SHAED, “Trampoline” (Photo Finish/Caroline)
6. NCT 127, “Highway To Heaven” (Caroline)
7. ELLIE GOULDING & JUICE WRLD, “Hate Me” (Polydor/Interscope)
8. BLANCO BROWN, “The Git Up” (BBR/BMG-Warner)
9. LIL TECCA, “Ransom” (Galactic/Republic)
10. SAM FELDT featuring RANI, “Post Malone” (Spinnin’/Warner)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (July 30, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: newcomer Lil Tecca is up against Sam Smith‘s not-so-sleeper hit in the race for the top spot. Will this Lil name yield big action? Let’s add ’em up:

JUST A LIL BIT SHORT: During a slower week at the format, “How Do You Sleep?” by Sam Smith was the Most Added track at the Top 40 format for a second week, earning another 33 stations. Lil Tecca’s “Ransom” finishes just five adds behind him with 28. The latter song is already well into the top 30 on the Rhythmic radio list, though its most impressive stats thus far are at streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, where it currently sits at #2 and #1 on their respective U.S.-based surveys.

After several weeks of minor activity, new titles from Kygo x Whitney Houston and Stephen Puth join the top ten for the first time. The late Houston last reached the top 50 at the format with 2002’s “Whatchulookinat”, which peaked at #46. Puth has yet to make the top 50 here, though his song “Sexual Vibe” did receive some unsolicited airplay at a handful of stations earlier this year.

Charting hits by NF and OneRepublic are among those titles holding in the top ten from a week ago, albeit with lower add totals.

With a new single from Ariana Grande and Social House ready to make the format its home, as well as rumored new music by Rihanna on the way, next Tuesday’s results will certainly be very interesting.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. SAM SMITH, “How Do You Sleep?” (Capitol)
2. LIL TECCA, “Ransom” (Galactic/Republic)
3. ED SHEERAN featuring KHALID, “Beautiful People” (Atlantic)
4. BLANCO BROWN, “The Git Up” (BBR/BMG-Warner)
5-T. NF, “Time” (Caroline)
5-T. SAM FELDT featuring RANI, “Post Malone” (Spinnin’/Warner)
7. ONEREPUBLIC, “Rescue Me” (Interscope)
8-T. KYGO x WHITNEY HOUSTON, “Higher Love” (RCA)
8-T. STEPHEN PUTH, “Look Away” (Arista/RED)
10-T. HERVE PAGEZ & DIPLO featuring CHARLI XCX, “Spicy” (Mad Decent)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (July 23, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Sam Smith tops the report, as he catches some ZZZ’s and the top spot in the world of adds. Don’t get sleepy just yet… we still have to add ’em up:

IN “DO” TIME: Coming off his two-week #1 single “Dancing With A Stranger”, a collaboration with Normani that landed at the top in May, Sam Smith had a sizable impact week for his follow-up release. “How Do You Sleep?” rested comfortably at 85 stations this week, leaping ahead of a second place finish for NF‘s “Time” (earning 52 stations) and a third place finish for OneRepublic‘s “Rescue Me” (47 stations) on the log. All three songs started below the top 50 on last Sunday’s published update, but they will grab a spot in the region by Sunday, as several older tracks will be pulled from the list. As expected, “How” will debut the highest.

Current chart hits from Blanco Brown and the Jonas Brothers are among those tunes that are stable in the top ten here on the latest adds list.

Though no releases are currently listed as impacting next week, look for songs from Ali Gatie and NCT 127, both headed for adds in two weeks, to pick up some early support.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. SAM SMITH, “How Do You Sleep?” (Capitol)
2. NF, “Time” (Caroline)
3. ONEREPUBLIC, “Rescue Me” (Interscope)
4. ED SHEERAN featuring KHALID, “Beautiful People” (Atlantic)
5. BLANCO BROWN, “The Git Up” (BBR/BMG-Warner)
6. JONAS BROTHERS, “Only Human” (Republic)
7-T. LIL NAS X, “Panini” (Columbia)
7-T. SAM FELDT featuring RANI, “Post Malone” (Spinnin’/Warner)
9. ELLIE GOULDING & JUICE WRLD, “Hate Me” (Polydor/Interscope)
10. POST MALONE featuring YOUNG THUG, “Goodbyes” (Republic)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (July 16, 2019)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: those Jonas Brothers are “Only” on top again, but there are new singles stepping into the top ten as well, including a viral dance smash. Let’s get onto the floor and add ’em up:

THE HUMAN TOUCH: Having cleared more than 70% of the Top 40 panel, the Jonas Brothers are back at the top of the report, earning another 42 stations this week, which puts them just ahead of Blanco Brown‘s “The Git Up” with 37 adds. “Git” picked up 21 stations yesterday at Country radio, where it tied for fourth place. Brown’s debut single is now in the top 40 at the pop format as of last Sunday’s published update and could receive a larger boost by this weekend.

The first collaboration for Monsta X and French Montana, titled “Who Do U Love?”, is loved at 25 stations this week. Tying for fifth place on the log, it should easily crack the top 50 in the coming days. Reactive tracks from Lewis Capaldi, Miley Cyrus and Zara Larsson are among those rounding out the top ten.

Next week, it’s likely to be another wild session with new releases from NF, OneRepublic, Sam Feldt and others.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (TWELVE)
1. JONAS BROTHERS, “Only Human” (Republic)
2. BLANCO BROWN, “The Git Up” (BBR/BMG-Warner)
3-T. ED SHEERAN featuring KHALID, “Beautiful People” (Atlantic)
3-T. POST MALONE featuring YOUNG THUG, “Goodbyes” (Republic)
5-T. ELLIE GOULDING & JUICE WRLD, “Hate Me” (Polydor/Interscope)
5-T. MONSTA X featuring FRENCH MONTANA, “Who Do U Love?” (Epic)
7. KASKADE & MEGHAN TRAINOR, “With You” (Columbia/Epic)
8. LEWIS CAPALDI, “Someone You Loved” (Capitol)
9. ZARA LARSSON, “All The Time” (TEN/Epic)
10-T. ILLENIUM & JON BELLION, “Good Things Fall Apart” (Astralwerks/Capitol)
10-T. MILEY CYRUS, “Mother’s Daughter” (RCA)
10-T. STANAJ, “Love Me” (Lava/Republic)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (July 14, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Now that the power is restored here in New York City, it’s time to get electric with a shot of powerful pop. Let’s see what’s charging up at the Top 40 format this Sunday:

“TALK” OF THE TOWN: Khalid keeps on chatting up the top spot, earning a fourth week at #1 at Top 40 radio with “Talk”. The song also holds at #2 on the Rhythmic chart, while it moves from 4-3 at Urban radio, 10-7 at Urban AC and 17-15 at Hot AC. It’s still about 1,000 spins ahead of its nearest competitor here on the pop chart, “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, at #2.

Grabbing a sweetheart and a five-spot jump up the chart, Blanco Brown rises from 44-39 with his first top 40 hit, “The Git Up”. It impacts at both the Country and Top 40 radio formats this week. Marshmello and Kane Brown are also on the move, headed up from 45-40 with “One Thing Right”. It’s the seventh top 40 entry for the DJ/producer and the first crossover appearance for Brown, a young Country music star that’s successfully put four songs in a row at the top of that respective radio chart.

We also note a top 50 debut this week from Kaskade and Meghan Trainor, who enter at #48 with “With You”. Though Trainor’s had a steady run of chart singles since 2014, this collaboration marks Kaskade’s first appearance on the pop chart since 2013. At the time, he spent a week at #50 with “Atmosphere” in September, though the song declined in airplay shortly afterwards.
