ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (November 24, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have a monster musical moment at the format as the panel’s pick of the week. Let’s add ’em up:

“MONSTER” MASHES: The dynamic duo of Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have this week’s Most Added song at the Top 40 format with “Monster”, scaring up 135 stations on impact. The new single debuted at #37 over the weekend, becoming the 11th top 40 hit on the chart for Mendes and the 32nd for Bieber. “Monster” brought in another 41 stations and a first place finish at the Hot AC format yesterday.

Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa settled into second place this week with 74 stations for their new collaboration called “Prisoner”. The song edged inside the top 50 on last Sunday’s official update at #49, but should much higher by the weekend. Yesterday, it came in fourth on the adds report at the Hot AC format, two weeks ahead of its impact date there, earning eight stations.

He was shut out of the GRAMMYs nominations, but The Weeknd is certainly loved by the Top 40 radio panel: he impacted today with “Save Your Tears”, which scored 4- stations and a third place finish. It ranked at #50 last Sunday and will also be on the rise.

Charting singles from Lil Nas X and Ritt Momney returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 1, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. The mood is right once again for the newest songs and stats from the top of the pop airwaves. Let’s see what’s popping at the format this week:

GOLDN YEARS: 24KGoldn and Iann Dior score a second week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Mood”. The big hit is well ahead of its nearest competitor by over 2,900 spins and should manage a third frame at the summit quite easily. Meanwhile, it stays in the runner-up position on this week’s Rhythmic chart update, with little movement elsewhere.

Moving into the top 40 this week, G-Eazy and Blackbear lift from 42-36 with “Hate The Way”, becoming their tenth and sixth top 40 entries at the format, respectively. The label/collective Internet Money leaps from 43-38 with “Lemonade”, their collaboration with Gunna, Don Toliver and Nav. This track marks the first top 40 hit for all four performers here, but they’ve all seen prior top 40 action at the Rhythmic and Urban formats. Finally, the late Pop Smoke scores his first top 40 entry here with “What You Know ‘Bout Love”, a song that you know is up from 41-39.

After reaching the top 20 this week with the title cut from her new album Positions, which was released on Friday, Ariana Grande debuts at #45 with her second single from the set: “34+35”. Format newcomer Ritt Momney has his first entry at #49 with a cover of “Put Your Records On”. The track was originally a top ten hit at the AC, Hot AC and Triple A formats for Corinne Bailey Rae in 2006 and 2007. (It didn’t reach the Top 40 list at the time.) Finally, Marshmello and Imanbek are new at #50 this week with the Usher-assisted “Too Much”. Usher hopes to score his first top 40 hit at the format since the summer of 2015.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (October 18, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. There’s lots of “Love” on this week’s log and much more, so let’s see what’s popping at the format this week:

“LOVE” WILL FIND A WAY: Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo remain at #1 on the Top 40 chart for the third week with “Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat)”, which includes the song’s most recent remix featuring BTS. The song holds at the summit as record label Columbia claims the top three slots at the format, with recent chart-topper “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles staying at #2 and “Mood” by 24kGoldn and Iann Dior (via the RECORDS imprint) climbing from 5-3 on its way to the top.

Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco land at #36 with their new collaboration “Lonely”. It becomes the 31st top 40 single for Bieber, who also moves from 15-12 with the Chance The Rapper-assisted “Holy”, and the fourth such entry for Blanco. TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio rises from 41-37 with her first top 40 song at any format, “Be Happy”. Following her, “My Ex’s Best Friend” by Machine Gun Kelly and Blackbear lifts from 44-38 this week. It’s their fourth and fifth top 40 hits, respectively, and is just below the same region at the Alternative format. Finally, the aforementioned Derulo is up from 43-39 with his 22nd top 40 hit, “Take You Dancing”.

This week’s top 50 is just as busy, if not busier, than last week. The late Pop Smoke enters the pop list for the first time with “What You Know ‘Bout Love” at #43, as the new Bebe Rexha and Doja Cat collaboration “Baby, I’m Jealous” comes in at #45. It was last week’s Most Added track here. The new single by Harry Styles blasts in at #47, as he scores once again with “Golden”. Finally, this week’s #50 entry is “Lemonade”, a big streaming hit from the Internet Money label featuring Gunna, Don Toliver and Nav.
