RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 8, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For the songs that will (hopefully) last a lifetime, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

THREE “GOOD” WEEKS: For the third consecutive week, Olivia Rodrigo remains at #1 on the Top 40 chart with “Good 4 U”, while her prior single “Déjà Vu” advances from 3-2. Rodrigo isn’t the first performer to hold down the top two positions at the format, though this kind of achievement is fairly rare so early into an artist’s charting days. You can expect her to hold down the #1 and #2 spots again next week. Will it be in the same order? Stay tuned.

Another five new songs enter the top 40 this week, with Silk Sonic coming in the highest with “Skate”. The song glides from 46-27, marking the second top 40 song at the format for the duo and Anderson .Paak, as well as the 23rd for Bruno Mars. Entering way up at #29, “Take My Breath” is the 19th top 40 hit for The Weeknd, whose new single is also starting out well at the Hot AC and Rhythmic radio formats. Up from 42-37, Dixie (who charted a year ago as Dixie D’Amelio) is in with the Rubi Rose-assisted “Psycho”. It’s the second top 40 entry for the former and the first for latter. Lifting from 41-39, Alessia Cara returns with “Sweet Dream”, now her 11th top 40 hit to date. Finally, the new Swedish House Mafia, Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake collaboration moves from 45-40. “Lifetime” is the third top 40 hit for the trio (and first since 2013), the eighth for $ign and the first for Shake.

YouTube personality turned singer Conan Gray debuts at #42 with “People Watching”, as Elle King and Miranda Lambert enter at #46 with “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)”, a collaboration that’s also currently charting at the Country and Hot AC radio formats. Khalid comes in at #49 with “New Normal”, while Big Red Machine and Taylor Swift barely sneak in at #50 with “Renegade”.

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco prove that it’s lonely at the top, but a few other performing records crashed the top five as well. Let’s add ’em up, shall we?

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (October 18, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. There’s lots of “Love” on this week’s log and much more, so let’s see what’s popping at the format this week:

“LOVE” WILL FIND A WAY: Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo remain at #1 on the Top 40 chart for the third week with “Savage Love (Laxed-Siren Beat)”, which includes the song’s most recent remix featuring BTS. The song holds at the summit as record label Columbia claims the top three slots at the format, with recent chart-topper “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles staying at #2 and “Mood” by 24kGoldn and Iann Dior (via the RECORDS imprint) climbing from 5-3 on its way to the top.

Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco land at #36 with their new collaboration “Lonely”. It becomes the 31st top 40 single for Bieber, who also moves from 15-12 with the Chance The Rapper-assisted “Holy”, and the fourth such entry for Blanco. TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio rises from 41-37 with her first top 40 song at any format, “Be Happy”. Following her, “My Ex’s Best Friend” by Machine Gun Kelly and Blackbear lifts from 44-38 this week. It’s their fourth and fifth top 40 hits, respectively, and is just below the same region at the Alternative format. Finally, the aforementioned Derulo is up from 43-39 with his 22nd top 40 hit, “Take You Dancing”.

This week’s top 50 is just as busy, if not busier, than last week. The late Pop Smoke enters the pop list for the first time with “What You Know ‘Bout Love” at #43, as the new Bebe Rexha and Doja Cat collaboration “Baby, I’m Jealous” comes in at #45. It was last week’s Most Added track here. The new single by Harry Styles blasts in at #47, as he scores once again with “Golden”. Finally, this week’s #50 entry is “Lemonade”, a big streaming hit from the Internet Money label featuring Gunna, Don Toliver and Nav.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (September 13, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. It’s certainly OK to check out these building titles and top movers at the format. Here’s what’s popping this week:

RUNNING LOW ON “SUGAR”: Harry Styles sneaks in a seventh week at #1 on the Top 40 chart with “Watermelon Sugar”. At this time, it’s likely to be the song’s final frame at the top, as Lewis Capaldi‘s “Before You Go” (which holds at #2 again) powers up in an attempt to claim the slowest run ever to #1 at the format.

In the top 40, the reissue of Zara Larsson‘s “Wow” lifts from 41-39 to become her ninth top 40 release at the format. Dan + Shay are also on the move with “I Should Probably Go To Bed”, lifting from 42-40 and earning the duo their fourth top 40 crossover hit.

The highest debut in the top 50 is the new collaboration from Marshmello and Demi Lovato, “OK Not To Be OK”, which bows at #43. The song also lands in the top 50 on this week’s Hot AC chart. Meanwhile, popular TikTok personality Dixie D’Amelio is also new to region, as “Be Happy” starts at #47. A remix of it, which features Blackbear and Lil Mosey, was released on Wednesday. A third new song lands at #50: newcomer Tate McRae slides in with “You Broke Me First”, a streaming hit that has already made the top 40 in several countries.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (August 25, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Snap, crackle… BTS pops at the Top 40 format in a big way! Let’s add ’em up:

BEYOND THE ADDS: To no one’s surprise, BTS and their new single “Dynamite” are absolutely explosive at the Top 40 format, as the song blasts in with 171 adds on impact, their biggest opening to date so far. The track started at #32 on last week’s published chart and should fly up in the coming days, especially given all the new action on it. Recent TikTok hits from Claire Rosinkranz and Dixie D’Amelio also reached the top ten on the log this week: the latter’s track “Be Happy” landed in seventh place with 18 stations, while the former’s EP cut “Backyard Boy” started in eighth with 16.

Charting singles from AJRAva Max and Miley Cyrus returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap, including data on the Calvin Harris and The Weeknd collaboration that you may be bumping by the weeknd.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. BTS, “Dynamite” (BigHit/Columbia)
2. 24KGOLDN featuring IANN DIOR, “Mood” (RECORDS-Columbia)
