RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 14, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For all the top titles that keep the music industry afloat, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

BABY’S FIRST WEEK: After sitting it out at #2 for the past four weeks, “Industry Baby” becomes the new #1 song at the Top 40 format. It marks the second chart-topper this year for Lil Nas X and the first for Jack Harlow. The Columbia label now claims the top three spots on the chart: The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber drop from 1-2 with “Stay” after ten weeks at the summit, while Adele‘s “Easy On Me” blasts from 8-3.

Format newcomer Oliver Tree branches out and soars from 44-36 with “Life Goes On”. It’s his first hit to rank on the Top 40 chart, but he’s already seen some action for a couple of past releases on the Alternative chart. Up from 42-38, “Faking Love” pairs Anitta and Saweetie for their second and fifth top 40 hits at the format, respectively. Finally, Imagine Dragons return to the Top 40 chart with “Follow You”, rising from 43-40. It’s their 11th entry to date and first since the spring of 2019.

The only new tune in the top 50 is one that earned most of its airplay on Friday: “Message In A Bottle”, entering at #46 for Taylor Swift. It’s included on Red (Taylor’s Version), a re-recorded release of her 2012 album, which will debut atop the Billboard 200 chart later this month.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (October 24, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For the top songs and performers, both old and Yung, let’s see what’s popping at the format this week:

KID PLUS 8: “Stay” earns an eighth week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart, as The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber continue their run with the longest-running #1 song of 2021 at the Top 40 format. It also remains atop the Hot AC radio chart, now in its third week there.

We’ve seen a pair of top 40 hits from Elton John (1981) and Emblem3 (2013) about a girl named “Chloe” and now the performer who bills herself simply as Chlöe enters the top 40 for the first time. “Have Mercy” moves from 41-39 this week, as the tune continues to approach the top ten on the Rhythmic and Urban radio charts. Meanwhile, Trevor Daniel jumps from 42-40 with his third top 40 song thus far, “Alone”. It interpolates “Better Off Alone”, the only chart hit at the format for Alice Deejay, which spent four weeks at #19 in the spring and summer of 2000.

In the top 50, Anitta and Sweetie lead four new entries in the region with “Faking Love”, which starts at #47. One spot lower, Charli XCX is in with “Good Ones” at #48. Her new release also appears in the top 50 on the Hot AC chart this week at #47, but with a significantly lower spin total. Imagine Dragons re-enter at #49 with “Follow You”, a former #1 hit on the Alternative radio chart from earlier this year. On the Top 40 chart, the track peaked at #47 in the late spring and hasn’t ranked in the top 50 since June. Lastly, at #50, Yung Bleu starts with the Chris Brown and 2 Chainz-assisted “Baddest”, a current top five hit on the Rhythmic and Urban charts.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 22, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. From cold hearts to hot new tracks, here’s all that’s popping at the format this week:

“4” SCORES: For the fifth consecutive week, Olivia Rodrigo holds strong at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart with “Good 4 U”, taken from the recent chart-topping album Sour. Meanwhile, “Déjà Vu” remains in the runner-up position for the third week, still over 600 spins behind her leader at the top. Across the radio world, “Good” is expected to top the Hot AC chart in the next few weeks.

In the top 40, four new tunes check into the region: “Summer Of Love” is the highest, starting at #31 for Shawn Mendes and Tainy. This is the 12th top 40 single for Mendes and the second for Tainy, who last charted two years ago as a collaborator on Benny Blanco‘s “I Can’t Get Enough”, which peaked at #29. Jumping from 41-32, the Black Eyed Peas, Saweetie and Lele Pons hit the top 40 with “Hit It”. The song becomes their 22nd, fourth and first entries in the region, respectively. Next in line, Billie Eilish has her ninth top 40 entry with the title cut from her album Happier Than Ever, debuting at #36. Finally, at #40, we have a rather momentous debut: “Cold Heart”, a collaboration from Elton John and Dua Lipa. In the 48 years that an airplay chart has been compiled, combining the archives of both Mediabase and Radio & Records, “Cold” marks John’s 47th top 40 song at the format and first since January 1998. Meanwhile, Lipa has her 16th top 40 hit.

New at #42, WizKid and Tems enter the chart with their current top five hit at Urban radio: “Essence”. A new remix with Justin Bieber is also securing airplay at many pop stations. The only other new single in the top 50 is “Drive You Home”, which speeds onto the survey at #50 for Jackson Wang and the collective/record label Internet Money.
