NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of November 9, 2018

Imagine that… another hit album.

You don’t have to imagine where these big releases originated from; they’re all vying for #1 on next week’s album chart. Who has the best chance of leading the way? These are the notable digital and physical releases out this Friday:

IMAGINE DRAGONS – Origins (iTunes)
Just last year, the Las Vegas band dropped an album called ƎVOLVE that launched massive hits like “Believer” and “Whatever It Takes” onto the charts at several radio formats. Now, with “Natural” achieving similar results, look for the act’s current album to be a strong contender for the top spot on the Billboard 200 list next week.

KANE BROWN Experiment (iTunes)
Brown’s built up quite a hit streak at country radio, especially given the format’s hesitance with his first top 40 release, “Used To Love You Sober”. Now, as “Lose It” appears headed for the top in the coming weeks, his latest studio album should deliver a nice opening sales week with a solid amount of streaming action.

LIL PEEP Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2 (iTunes)
The late performer’s first EP entered the top 40 on the Billboard 200 in 2017, and his second release should result in even better numbers. He’s currently just below the top 40 on the Alternative and Rhythmic radio lists with a non-album collaboration called “Falling Down” with the late XXXTENTACION.

MUSE Simulation Theory (iTunes)
Currently climbing on the Alternative and Active Rock charts with a single titled “Pressure”, this English group will likely receive their fifth top ten album in the U.S. next week. Their last set, released in 2015, went all the way to #1. Could this do the same?

Notable albums out this week: Charles Bradley‘s Black Velvet (iTunes), Hanson‘s String Theory (iTunes), John Splithoff‘s Make It Happen (Deluxe) (iTunes), Jon Bellion‘s Glory Sound Prep (iTunes), Jonas Blue‘s Blue (iTunes), Olly Murs‘s You Know I Know (iTunes), Steve Aoki‘s Neon Future III (iTunes), The Revivalists‘s Take Good Care (iTunes), Train‘s Greatest Hits (iTunes), Trippie Redd‘s A Love Letter To You 3 (iTunes)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (May 15, 2018)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: we can think of at least 13 reasons why Selena Gomez‘s newest single is performing well at the format, though other impacting songs are also in the mix. Let’s add ’em up:

TAKING THE “BACK” WAY: Selena Gomez has yet to release her third solo album following a handful of mid-charting titles (and a couple of top five singles), but she’s one step closer to it with a tune that also doubles as the first single off the soundtrack to the second season of 13 Reasons Why. “Back To You” comes in at 114 stations during its first full week, more than enough to give it the title of the Most Added song at the Top 40 format on this Tuesday’s report. The soundtrack hits stores on Friday and features a number of top acts, from Gomez to OneRepublic to Years & Years, mixed with some classic songs by New Order, Tears For Fears and others.

Additional new tunes in the top five include “You Can Cry” (#3) by MarshmelloJuicy J featuring James Arthur and “Jump” (#4) by Julia Michaels featuring Trippie Redd. The former title starts with 33 stations, and the latter begins at 25. Expect both songs to reach the top 50 in the next couple of weeks. Neither Marshmello nor Michaels have announced a forthcoming album.

1. SELENA GOMEZ, “Back To You” (Interscope)
2. ENRIQUE IGLESIAS featuring PITBULL, “Move To Miami” (RCA)
3. MARSHMELLO x JUICY J featuring JAMES ARTHUR, “You Can Cry” (Columbia)
4. JULIA MICHAELS featuring TRIPPIE REDD, “Jump” (Republic)
