ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (November 21, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Taylor Swift and friends have another swift start at pop radio, while the latest singles from Fall Out Boy and Kendrick Lamar find “love” from programmers at the format. Pass the turkey and the hot records, please…

WINNING THE “GAME”: Hot off her 50-31 move on last Sunday’s update, Taylor Swift‘s “End Game” begins its own game in the CHR world, taking the Most Added title at Top 40 stations this week. The latest single from reputation, which also features Ed Sheeran and Future, puts up 60 adds on the current report, well ahead of “One Foot” by Walk The Moon, which grabs 37 new stations one week after it impacted here. (It’s also up one spot and seven adds from last week’s results!) “Foot” is likely to step foot into the top 40 by midweek, which means it should have a notable jump by the published report on Sunday night. Everyone enjoys a sweet chart success, perhaps even more than sweet potatoes topped with marshmallows or even apple pie. (I think I’ll be eating a little of each come Thursday night. Drooling yet?)

Meanwhile, impacting singles from Kendrick Lamar and Fall Out Boy are gobbling up a nice musical meal; I guess they have a few trypto-fans here. The Zacari-assisted “Love.” by Lamar (25 adds, fourth place) and “Hold Me Tight Or Don’t” by the band (23 adds, fifth place) perform solidly in their first full week, though they probably could have boasted slightly higher station totals on a date that wasn’t close to a national holiday. At the current time, both tracks are below the top 50 here, but don’t be surprised to see them in there by the end of the month.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. TAYLOR SWIFT featuring ED SHEERAN & FUTURE, “End Game” (Big Machine/Republic)
2. WALK THE MOON, “One Foot” (RCA)
3. SOFI TUKKER, “Best Friend” (Ultra/in2une)
4. KENDRICK LAMAR featuring ZACARI, “Love.” (Top Dawg Ent./Aftermath/Interscope)
5. FALL OUT BOY, “Hold Me Tight Or Don’t” (Island/Republic)
6-T. EMINEM featuring BEYONCÉ, “Walk On Water” (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope)
6-T. LIAM PAYNE, “Bedroom Floor” (Republic)
6-T. SELENA GOMEZ x MARSHMELLO, “Wolves” (Interscope)
9. NF, “Let You Down” (Capitol CMG/Caroline)
10. DEMI LOVATO, “Tell Me You Love Me” (Island/Republic)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (November 14, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Eminem‘s “Water” wars hydrate the panel, while Walk The Moon gets on the good “Foot” with a few dozen programmers. Don’t get mad, get adds:

“WATER” YOU WAITING FOR?: The buzz is big on the forthcoming album by Eminem, Revival, which is out on Friday. The Interscope star offers a first taste of the set with “Walk On Water”, featuring Columbia’s Beyoncé, which takes the runner-up spot on this week’s Top 40 report, added at 39 stations in its first week. Of course, this means that Selena Gomez and Marshmello‘s “Wolves” howls in the top spot for a third consecutive week, new at another 49 stations, which is quite an achievement. It is now in the top 25 at the format, and headed for much higher. (Of course, I probably said that about “Bad Liar” and “Fetish” too, and those two singles bottomed out below the top ten. Anyways, we’ll see what happens.)

Beyond those two collaborations in the top two spots, one of the other big winners on impact is “One Foot” from RCA’s Walk The Moon, which picks up 30 adds for a strong third place finish. The Ohio group’s “Shut Up And Dance” just missed the top spot two years ago, stalling at #2 for three weeks that June and July. (They’ve had two additional charting releases, though neither has gone past #45.) The band’s What If Nothing was released on Friday and will likely enter in the top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Foot” is currently #9 on the Alternative radio list and #44 on the Hot AC survey.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (TWELVE)
1. SELENA GOMEZ x MARSHMELLO, “Wolves” (Interscope)
2. EMINEM featuring BEYONCÉ, “Walk On Water” (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope)
3. WALK THE MOON, “One Foot” (RCA)
4. DEMI LOVATO, “Tell Me You Love Me” (Island/Republic)
5. TAYLOR SWIFT featuring ED SHEERAN & FUTURE, “End Game” (Big Machine/Republic)
6. HARRY STYLES, “Kiwi” (Columbia)
7. BEBE REXHA featuring FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, “Meant To Be” (Warner Bros.)
8. CALVIN HARRIS featuring KEHLANI & LIL YACHTY, “Faking It” (Columbia)
9. NF, “Let You Down” (Capitol CMG/Caroline)
10-T. LIAM PAYNE, “Bedroom Floor” (Republic)
10-T. NIALL HORAN, “Too Much To Ask” (Capitol)
10-T. SOFI TUKKER, “Best Friend” (Ultra/in2une)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (November 7, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Selena Gomez and Marshmello are on the pop prowl once again, with several other collaborations in the mix, both by new and established acts. Here’s what’s hot on this cold November night:

“WOLVES” AT THE DOOR: No surprise to see “Wolves” from Interscope’s Selena Gomez and RCA’s Marshmello leading a for a second week on this week’s CHR/Top 40 report, picking up 72 more stations on impact, which adds to its pre-impact number of 36 stations from last Tuesday. Having just soared from 47-33 on this past Sunday’s official update to become her 17th top 40 hit since 2010, a new top 30 placement this weekend seems very likely. NF‘s “Let You Down” (30 adds) and Liam Payne‘s “Bedroom Floor” (23 adds) round out the top three, the former of which ranked at #31 on Sunday and is also trending toward the top 30.

The biggest breakout from this week’s report comes from a duo that’s new to the Top 40 format, Sofi Tukker. Back in September, their single “Best Friend” was used in an introductory video for Apple’s new iPhone X model. Well, now that the phone is out, their track, featuring NERVO, The Knocks and Alisa Ueno, is experiencing a second life at pop stations, landing 21 stations (coming in fourth place) this Tuesday. That total puts it just ahead of the 20 adds (fifth place) that Clean Bandit‘s “I Miss You” secured on the report, which features singer Julia Michaels. “Miss” recently debuted in the top 30 on the U.K.’s official singles chart. Does it have enough strength to become the trio’s third top ten single at the format? Stay tuned!

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. SELENA GOMEZ x MARSHMELLO, “Wolves” (Interscope)
2. NF, “Let You Down” (Capitol CMG/Caroline)
3. LIAM PAYNE, “Bedroom Floor” (Republic)
4. SOFI TUKKER, “Best Friend” (Ultra/in2une)
5. CLEAN BANDIT featuring JULIA MICHAELS, “I Miss You” (Big Beat/RRP)
6-T. BEBE REXHA featuring FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, “Meant To Be” (Warner Bros.)
6-T. LORDE featuring KHALID, POST MALONE and SZA, “Homemade Dynamite (Remix)” (Lava/Republic)
8. CHEAT CODES featuring FETTY WAP, “Feels Great” (300 Entertainment/in2une)
9-T. CHARLIE PUTH, “How Long” (Atlantic)
9-T. DEMI LOVATO, “Tell Me You Love Me” (Island/Republic)

RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (November 6-7, 2017)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three new releases impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

CLEAN BANDIT featuring JULIA MICHAELS – “I Miss You” (Big Beat/RRP)
Album: TBA (2017?)
Past T40 History: The trio’s “Rockabye” and Michaels’s “Issues” both got to #4 earlier this year. Will this collaboration go higher?

DEMI LOVATO – “Tell Me You Love Me” (Island/Republic)
Album: Tell Me You Love Me (2017)
Past T40 History: Coming off her second #1 at the Top 40 format with “Sorry Not Sorry”, this performer wants even more “Love”.

SELENA GOMEZ x MARSHMELLO – “Wolves” (Interscope)
Album: TBA (2017?)
Past T40 History: “Wolves” cracked the top 40 this past Sunday, and was last week’s Most Added single. Look for it to howl again.

Next week: Will Walk The Moon float to the top with “One Foot”? Fly by on Tuesday evening to see what’s up.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (October 31, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: do “Wolves” eat “Kiwi” on Halloween? Probably not. However, the panel’s eating up hot singles from Selena Gomez and Harry Styles. Get spooky, kids:

HOWLIN’ FOR A HIT: “Wolves” is hungry for adds this week, even though it’s not impacting until next Tuesday. Of course, that title belongs to Interscope’s Selena Gomez and RCA’s Marshmello, who scare up 36 early commitments from the panel. With a Most Added single and plenty of more stations due to come in next week, expect this collaboration to stick around for a while. This may or may not be a single from Gomez’s forthcoming album, primarily due to the fact that we don’t know much about the set or if Gomez’s three chart songs from earlier this year will be a part of the tracklisting. Stay tuned for more details.

Finishing in second place for the week, with 29 new stations on impact, is “Kiwi” from Columbia’s Harry Styles. The tasty treat is the third radio single from his self-titled album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year. Styles is likely due for a nomination or two (or more) at the upcoming Grammy Awards, the ceremony occurring on January 28, so it’s a smart idea to have a new single on the radio during the nomination process. Good luck Harry!

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. SELENA GOMEZ x MARSHMELLO, “Wolves” (Interscope)
2. HARRY STYLES, “Kiwi” (Columbia)
3. MACKLEMORE featuring KESHA, “Good Old Days” (Warner Bros.)
4-T. AVICII featuring RITA ORA, “Lonely Together” (Geffen/Interscope)
4-T. NF, “Let You Down” (Capitol CMG/Caroline)
6-T. BEBE REXHA featuring FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, “Meant To Be” (Warner Bros.)
6-T. LIAM PAYNE, “Bedroom Floor” (Republic)
8-T. CHEAT CODES featuring FETTY WAP, “Feels Great” (300 Entertainment/in2une)
8-T. NIALL HORAN, “Too Much To Ask” (Capitol)
10. CHARLIE PUTH, “How Long” (Atlantic)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (August 15, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: we question questionable titles from P!nk and Sabrina Carpenter! Got numbers? We do. Let’s calculate and celebrate these top radio records:

“WHAT” GOES UP: Since the spring of 2000, pop superstar P!nk has reached the top 40 with 27 songs, and her 27th and latest hit sounds like a winner. “What About Us” is the Most Added title at the format this week, scoring 121 stations on impact. 18 of her 27 hits, or two-thirds, have peaked in the top ten, with nine of those reaching #1. That’s pretty outstanding. With her upcoming set due October 13, titled Beautiful Trauma, I’m sure several of those totals will be headed upward. P!nk’s last single to chart here, the collaboration “Waterfall” with Stargate and Sia, spent a week at #33 (4/2/17 MB) and quickly fell apart. (That definitely won’t be the case with “What” now!) Check back to see how her new single does in the coming weeks.

IF I WERE A CARPENTER: After reaching a #26 peak this past spring with “Thumbs”, 18-year-old Sabrina Carpenter keeps the one word title streak alive with “Why”, scoring the second Most Added record at Top 40 radio with 43 stations on impact. Even though her title is just three letters in length, we’ve had a couple of top 40 hits that are just one character: “7” (#2, 2/5-12/93 R&R) by Prince and the New Power Generation and “i” (#30, 11/9/14 MB) by Kendrick Lamar. However, all these songs are not short on quality, and that’s what matters! Can Carpenter hammer out a hit for the fall? Stay tuned.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. P!NK, “What About Us” (RCA)
2. SABRINA CARPENTER, “Why” (Hollywood)
3. SELENA GOMEZ featuring GUCCI MANE,
“Fetish” (Interscope)
4
. LOUIS TOMLINSON featuring BEBE REXHA & DIGITAL FARM ANIMALS, “Back To You” (Syco/Epic)
5. HARRY STYLES,
“Two Ghosts” (Columbia)
6. PORTUGAL. THE MAN,
“Feel It Still” (Atlantic)
7. WHY DON’T WE, “Something Different” (Atlantic)
8. FRENCH MONTANA featuring SWAE LEE,
“Unforgettable” (Eardrum/Bad Boy/Interscope-Epic)
9. DEMI LOVATO,

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (August 8, 2017)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Harry Styles raises a toast to “Ghosts”, AJR prove that they are fanatics of the dramatic and much more. Forget about the popcorn and popsicles, munch down on these pop stats tonight:

“TWO” BECOMES ONE: After Louis Tomlinson led the Top 40 adds report for the past two weeks, it’s time for another One Direction member to take control at the top. Harry Styles is looking for his second solo top 40 single with “Two Ghosts”, and at pop stations this week, it spooks up 36 adds from the panel. “Two” is the follow-up to “Sign Of The Times”, which scored a massive 127 adds on impact in April, peaking at #12 (4/30, 5/7 and 5/21/17) on the chart. Of course, Styles’s self-titled album entered at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart earlier this year. Though much of the initial hype of this era has died down, “Two” can still take a nice run up the chart. However, even with the ghost talk, I wouldn’t get into the Halloween spirit too early… it’s only August 8. (It’s definitely a good time for candy, regardless of the date.)

FREAKS OF THE “WEAK”: Since 2014, the trio of brothers known as AJR have reached the Top 40 chart with two top 30 hits: “I’m Ready” (#25, 7/27/14) and “Weak” (#27, 6/4 and 6/18/17). Now, the Met siblings get some brotherly love from the stations of the pop panel, receiving 24 adds on impact, good for a third place (tie) finish. It’s the second radio single from their newest set The Click, which didn’t exactly click with the buying public, reaching #61 on the Billboard 200. Will Adam, Jack and Ryan finally break into the top 20? Will a brick wall await them below the region once more? Ooh, time will tell, kids. Watch this space!

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. HARRY STYLES, “Two Ghosts” (Columbia)
2. PORTUGAL. THE MAN, “Feel It Still” (Atlantic)
3. AJR,
“Drama” (AJR Prod./RED)
4. SELENA GOMEZ featuring GUCCI MANE,
“Fetish” (Interscope)
5. LOUIS TOMLINSON featuring BEBE REXHA & DIGITAL FARM ANIMALS,
“Back To You” (Syco/Epic)
6. DEMI LOVATO,
“Sorry Not Sorry” (Safehouse/Island/Republic/Hollywood)
7. FRENCH MONTANA featuring SWAE LEE,
“Unforgettable” (Eardrum/Bad Boy/Interscope-Epic)
8. ZEDD & LIAM PAYNE,
“Get Low” (Interscope)
9. KHALID,
“Location” (RCA)
10. WHY DON’T WE, “Something Different” (Atlantic)
