Chart Notes:

  • From the recent album 30, “Easy On Me” spends a third week at #1 on my personal chart for Adele, one of two releases she currently has in the top 20. Up ten spots, the Biggest Mover of the week comes from newcomer GAYLE with “Abcdefu”, advancing from 36-26. Two songs debut on the list, both of which feature the 74-year-old music legend who reached #1 on my chart this past fall in a duet with Dua Lipa: of course, he’s Elton John. Coming in at #39, “E-Ticket” is a collaboration with Eddie Vedder from The Lockdown Sessions, which impacts at the Triple A radio format on Monday. At #40, John shares a seasonal single with Ed Sheeran in “Merry Christmas”. All of the proceeds from the song in the United Kingdom will go towards their own respective charities.

Of the three singles, two impact in the next couple of weeks: “Ex I Never Had” heads for adds at the Hot AC format on Monday, while “Abcdefu” has its official date at Top 40 radio in early December. (Lavigne’s “Bite Me” is nearing the top 40 at the Alternative format, as it’s seen some airplay activity since the middle of the month.)

  • The legendary Duran Duran secures a second week at #1 on my personal chart with “Anniversary”, while Adele waits in the wings with “Easy On Me”, which holds at #3 and could reach the top spot next week. This week’s Biggest Mover is from the duo Silk Sonic: jumping from 37-28, “Smokin’ Out The Window” is lighting up the countdown in its second week of activity. There are two new songs on the chart this week: from the upcoming film Sing 2, “Your Song Saved My Life” is in at #36 for U2. It is currently earning airplay at the Hot AC and Triple A radio formats. The other debut is from Red (Taylor’s Version), a re-recorded release of Taylor Swift‘s popular 2012 album. Chart Notes:

  • Forty years after releasing their debut album, Duran Duran is still making some quality music and their current single certainly proves it. “Anniversary” rises from 2-1 on my personal chart this week, becoming the band’s fourth #1 tune since 2005. It follows “Invisible”, the lead single from Future Past, which reached #3 earlier this year. American Idol alum Jax scores the week’s Biggest Mover with “Like My Father”, which leaps from 19-12 and continues to see airplay at the Hot AC radio format. The debut activity picks back up this week with four new titles in the top 40, led by the third chart entry from the duo Silk Sonic: at #37, “Smokin’ Out The Window” previews An Evening With Silk Sonic, which comes out on Friday. Another Idol alum is in at #38: it’s Benson Boone with “Ghost Town”, which continues to grow from a viral TikTok moment. Ed Sheeran is next with “Overpass Graffiti”, which lands at #39. It’s the third chart hit from his recent album =. Finally, Bastille enters at #40 with “No Bad Days”, the second song to chart from their forthcoming album Give Me The Future.

Their duet, which is featured on John’s The Lockdown Sessions compilation, should be safe at the summit for the next few weeks. Coldplay and BTS climb from 36-27 on the chart with “My Universe”, earning it the title of this week’s Biggest Mover. Three releases debut in the top 40: “Like My Father” is the highest at #34, as Jax earns her second top 40 single of 2021. Charli XCX is one notch lower with “Good Ones”, off to a fairly good start at #35. Finally, the late Whitney Houston debuts at #40 with a new remix of 1986’s “How Will I Know”, reimagined by Clean Bandit. The original song spent two weeks at #1 on the CHR radio chart.
