RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (February 14, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Beyond the chocolates and flowers, it’s time to fall in love with the weekly pop radio survey for a recap of what’s popping at the format:

CAN I GET YOUR NUMBER: Ariana Grande just can’t keep away from the top spot! After a seven-week run at the top, her hit “Positions” fell to #3 last week, leaving Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco‘s “Lonely” to reach the summit. Now, Grande is back at the top with “34+35” and returns to the runner-up position with her former #1 smash. How will she add to her huge chart takeover? Stay tuned.

Dua Lipa scores this week’s Highest Debut in the countdown at #34 with “We’re Good”, becoming her 13th top 40 entry. It’s a part of a recent reissue of her 2020 album Future Nostalgia, dubbed the Moonlight Edition. The other three releases entering the region on this update are all from newcomers: Yung Gravy leaps up from 41-37 with “Oops!”, Fousheé lifts from 42-39 with “Deep End” and the band Glass Animals debuts at #40 with “Heat Waves”, a current top five hit on the Alternative radio chart.

The big action continues in the top 50 with another five debuts this week. The highest of them, which lands at #42, is from Meduza and Dermot Kennedy with their collaboration called “Paradise”. To date, the single has already peaked in the top ten or 20 across Europe and Australasia. Cardi B debuts at #44 with “Up”, which is certainly where it’s headed on the survey, while Daya charts for the first time in three years with “Bad Girl” at #45. Further down, JayQ The Legend begins at #49 with “It Could Be You” and Fat Joe enters the top 50 for the first time since 2016 with the DJ Khaled and Amorphous-assisted “Sunshine (The Light)” at #50.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (January 24, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. It’s time to get down to business and have a look at what’s popping at the format this week:

GRANDE CENTRAL: Ariana Grande‘s “Positions” holds steady for a sixth week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart. The track is up in airplay at both the Rhythmic and Hot AC formats, appearing at #9 and #13, respectively. It’s likely to spend a seventh week at the top, unless one of Justin Bieber‘s recent singles receives an extra boost during the new tracking week.

Up from 42-39, LOONA has a starring role in the top 40 this week with “Star”. It’s the first top 40 entry at the format for the K-pop group. Meanwhile, Zara Larsson and Young Thug blast from 48-40 with “Talk About Love”, which becomes their tenth and fifth top 40 hits, respectively.

Further down in the top 50, Ava Max checks in at #41 with “My Head & My Heart”, which follows her recent top five song “Kings & Queens”. DJ/producer Tiësto scores his first top 50 entry since 2018 with “The Business”, which appears at #46. One collaboration is new to the region at #49: Jason Derulo and Adam Levine team up for “Lifestyle”, as the former’s current solo track “Take You Dancing” remains active in the top 15. Finally, we say “Oops!” and “hello” to newcomer Yung Gravy, who starts at #50.
