RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (June 17-18, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three new hits impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

LIVVIA – “Dizzy” (12Tone)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: Former Jonas camp member Olivia Somerlyn has charted with two minor top 40 singles. Will this be her third?

TAYLOR SWIFT – “You Need To Calm Down” (Republic)
Album: Lover (2019)
Past T40 History: With “ME!” looking stalled out just below the top five, this follow-up single (now in the top 40) is on its way up.

TOVE LO – “Glad He’s Gone” (Island/Republic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: It’s been three years since Lo entered the top ten here. We’ll see if her new single earns her a seventh top 40 hit.

Next week: it’s a huge pop party with at least five impacting songs, including new releases from Ava Max, Avicii and MKTO. It’s anyone’s guess as to who the winner will be, so stay tuned for more.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (June 16, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Wowzer, it’s been another busy week on the airwaves and we’ve got all the essential information for you. Let’s see what’s popping at the Top 40 format this Sunday:

WOW, IT’S NUMBER ONE: After a slow run to the top of the pop chart, Post Malone‘s “Wow” climbs from 2-1 in its 23rd week in the top 40 to become the new #1 song at the format. “Wow” is Malone’s third chart-topper on the Top 40 survey, following the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Psycho” (four weeks) and “Better Now” (two weeks) from last year. The cut joins titles such as “Bad” and “Fly” (among others) in the category of #1 radio hits with the fewest number of characters.

There are three new entries in this week’s top 40, led by “Find U Again” from Mark Ronson and Camila Cabello, which makes a giant move from 41-30. It’s the third solo top 40 song for Ronson, who has also charted with the duo Silk City, and the 11th solo hit for Cabello, who previously charted with the quintet Fifth Harmony. Calming the #39 spot, it’s superstar Taylor Swift with “You Need To Calm Down”, which blasts straight into the region to become her 29th such entry here. Finally, swinging up from 42-40, we have the second top 40 track for the boy band In Real Life with “Crazy AF”. Top 40 radio isn’t exactly going crazy over this one: it’s been slowly moving up in the top 50 since early May and probably won’t get much further. Still, a top 40 song is a top 40 song.

On a roll and climbing into the top 50 at #43, Miley Cyrus debuts with “Mother’s Daughter”. The single can be found on her She Is Coming set, an EP that she released earlier this month. Newcomer Christian Paul also hits the list at #50 with “Strong”, becoming his first chart entry. His forthcoming EP is due at the beginning of July.
