RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/11 – 6/17/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “Into Yellow” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Brown’s been a favorite on both the blog and my chart for nearly three years, with songs like “Nostalgia” and “Take Out Of Me” still getting a fair amount of listening on my media player of choice. The ethereal pop track proves to be a very special musical moment.

_____

WHISSELL – “Been Here Before” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s the Nashville performer who, much like her song title, has been here before on several occasions. In fact, the excellent “Legs Crossed” was featured on the Rewind last month. In the evolution of this lovely artist, this and “Legs” deliver some radio potential.

_____

WYLDER – “Save A Way” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Washington, D.C.-based quartet looks a little different from when they were last featured on our feed, but their first new song in over a year is a good companion to their summer indie pop anthem “Sunstroke”, released in 2015. This guitar-driven track rules!

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Johnny Stimson – “Honeymoon” (SoundCloud)
Nicholas Roberts – “Before You Go” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 5/7 – 5/13/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

AARON TAOS – “These Days” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been nearly four months since Taos last appeared on the Rewind with “Off My Mind”, and this rocker marks a change in musical direction for the Brooklyn-based performer. Luckily, the edgier and guitar-laden indie track brings a great energy to Taos’s catalog.

_____

PAPERWHITE – “Only Us” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you’re a fan of the Rewind, you know that siblings Ben and Katie Marshall always come prepared with a good pop bop. Their new single is their third one to be featured in 2017, an exciting electronic-influenced dream pop sound with a strikingly lush production.

_____

THØSS – “Work Is A Four Letter Word” (iTunes) (Spotify)
“Submarine” steered its way into the Rewind waters back in November, but the English artist first came onto my radar about a year ago with single “IWITW” and EP Benchwarmer. Some four letter words I’d use to describe his new song: “real”, “good” and “tune”.

_____

WHISSELL – “Legs Crossed” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Did somebody ring the alarm? Hot song alert! This Nashville singer is no stranger to the Rewind and my blog playlists, with several cuts from her past EP getting the PGTC approval in 2016. Bringing the sass, slayage and spunk, this empowering pop anthem rules.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Floduxe featuring Kyle Reynolds – “That Would Be Nice” (SoundCloud)
Junior Prom – “Young Stunners” (SoundCloud)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of January 27, 2017

Coming down the track with new tracks...

Coming down the track with new tracks…

When it comes to executive orders to better the state of our music industry, I think we can sign off on getting all of you readers out in the blog world up-to-date with the latest releases. After all, it’s not a wall. Here are some of this week’s new album and singles:

TRAIN – a girl a bottle a boat (iTunes)
All aboard! The latest set from this San Francisco band features “Play That Song”, which recently went top ten on Hot AC radio. That sounds like some chart and soul to me! It also features a collaboration with Priscilla Renea, who hit the pop chart as an artist in 2009 with “Dollhouse”. Pat Monahan and crew have earned five top ten albums on the Billboard 200 since 2001, and the sixth could be on its way soon.

MIGOS – Culture (iTunes)
If you’re into raindrops and drop-tops, then you probably know the chart-topping song “Bad And Boujee” by this Georgia rap trio. As it ranks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it’s also a top ten hit on the Rhythmic and Urban radio listings. This album will receive a large boost due to stream and track-equivalent units, which is not “Bad” at all when it comes to chart placement.

KEHLANI – SweetSexySavage (iTunes)
With cuts like “CRZY” and “Distraction” building up millions of plays at streaming services, the California performer is bound to find some nice support at those platforms for release week. It’s likely to perform much better than her last mixtape, You Should Be Here.

More albums out this week: Aquilo‘s Silhouettes (iTunes), Bell Biv Devoe‘s Three Stripes (iTunes), Brantley Gilbert‘s The Devil Don’t Sleep (iTunes), Erik Hassle‘s Innocence Lost (iTunes), Japandroids‘s Near To The Wild Heart Of Life (iTunes), Joshua Radin‘s The Fall (iTunes), Lauren Alaina‘s Road Less Traveled (iTunes), NOW That’s What I Call Music, Vol. 61 (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: Stanaj‘s From A Distance (iTunes), Whissell‘s Old Souls, Young Bodies (iTunes)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/30 – 11/5

Record Rewind - November 6, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “The First Thing You See” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s a Rewind entry that’s kind of new, but not exactly. A live version of this track appears on an EP from Major that came out in January 2014 on Virgin Records, and it’s actually gaining at streaming services. However, this new mix is super smooth and lovely.

_____

CAPE CUB – “Heat Of The Night” (iTunes) (Spotify)
As the weather continues to get colder and colder, the more we miss the “Heat” from those glorious summer days. However, a new EP from Chad Male’s glorious project is certainly going to whip up some warmth for the blogs. Wake up to 6AM and a great single.

_____

KINGSBURY – “Easy” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s a new name from Nashville, a pop duo consisting of Caroline Kingsbury and Will Hess. A few years ago, Kingsbury, the solo performer, released some music as The Red Headed Indian. Now, the two make it sound so “Easy” to craft a cool cut for the blogs.

_____

THE NEW COAST – “Melbourne” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The London duo of Nick Blyth and Chris Cheater last appeared on the Rewind in August with “Slow Down”, but they certainly have done the opposite of that with the Friday release of an EP titled Paraga Beach. The guys have carved out a great sound for the set.

_____

WHISSELL – “Old Souls, Young Bodies” (iTunes) (Spotify)
About a month ago, Nashville’s Lauren Whistle made it onto the Rewind with a great track called “Pain Of Love”. Her debut EP is a couple of months away, but that lush pop sound and pleading vocal in her latest release are enough to keep me satisfied (for now!)

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
GRETA ISAAC – “Don’t Tell” (SoundCloud)
HUSKY – “Late Night Store” (SoundCloud)
LONELY BENSON – “Let Me Know” (SoundCloud)
SAM TINNESZ featuring YACHT MONEY – “Play With Fire” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/25 – 10/1

Record Rewind - October 2, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “There’s Little Left” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major really impressed me with his last single, “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”, which spread across the blogs shortly after its release in August. Don’t let the title fool you; there’s certainly more left from this budding performer and his neo soul cut. It’s refreshing.

_____

CAPE CUB – “Lifeline” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you don’t know Chad Male’s great project by now, I’ve only written and posted my love for it about a million times. So, would it be alright if I make it a million and one? With another cut from his upcoming 6AM EP, it’s another winner for the indie rock crew.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Alive” (iTunes) (Spotify)
A little under two years ago, this California singer/songwriter pitched me his EP at the time, Simple Things. Driven by streams of “Miles On My Heart”, it’s done 775,000+ combined plays to date on Spotify. He has a catchy sync song now, and lots of potential.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Campus Fashion” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you detest back-to-school season, or all those midterms coming your way, chances are that you can at least enjoy this A+ single. It comes from a Boston quartet that I’ve enjoyed for some time now, making psychedelic pop sound pretty groovy in 2016. Dig in.

_____

WHISSELL – “Pain Of Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s always excellent to get a new single from Nashville’s Lauren Whistle, who combines the 60’s soul and grit of Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra with 90’s Alternative girls like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos. You’ll feel pleasure over “Pain” after listening to it.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
JAMES CHERRY – “Break Somebody” (SoundCloud)
KING DECO – “Ready My Lips” (SoundCloud)
ROMA – “Missing Out” (SoundCloud)
SILENT CROWD – “Candy” (SoundCloud)
