RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 23, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. The pop chart is looking pretty explosive, so let’s see what’s sparking up at the format this week:

STILL IN STYLES: Harry Styles remains at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for a fourth week with “Watermelon Sugar”, now more than 3,300 spins ahead of Dua Lipa‘s former chart-topper “Break My Heart” in the runner-up spot. The giant hit is ready for a fifth week at the top, as it continues to climb through the top five at Hot AC radio.

Two songs jump into the top 40 this week: Miley Cyrus bolts from 41-28 with her 13th top 40 single at the format, “Midnight Sky”. Meanwhile, K-pop septet BTS launches at #32 with “Dynamite”, their sixth top 40 entry to date. The tune recently broke a YouTube record when its music video scored just over 101 million views in its first day alone. It impacts at the pop format on Tuesday and will most likely finish as the Most Added song on the report.

In the top 50, Drake debuts at #46 with the Lil Durk-assisted “Laugh Now Cry Later”, while Dan + Shay‘s “I Should Probably Go To Bed” comes in at #48. The former song is about halfway up the chart on both the Rhythmic and Urban formats, while the latter is cruising through the 20’s on both the Country and Hot AC lists.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 16, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For all the sugary sounds, chewy chart stats and more, here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

MORE MELON, MAN: Harry Styles holds at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for a third week with “Watermelon Sugar”, down less than 100 spins vs. last week’s chart. The track is now approaching the top five on the Hot AC chart and reaches the top 20 on the AC radio list. “Watermelon” will easily score a juicy fourth week on top, as it paces well ahead of the song at #2.

This week’s top 40 action is fairly limited, with the Zedd and Jasmine Thompson collaboration “Funny” climbing into the region with a 42-40 move. This is the 16th top 40 entry for Zedd and the first for Thompson. Blasting into the top 50, Miley Cyrus has the top debut at #41 with “Midnight Sky”, taken from her upcoming She Is Miley Cyrus album. Further down, Saweetie‘s “Tap In” is in at #47, while Jeremy Zucker‘s “Supercuts” is super new at #49. Both soloists are aiming for their second top 40 entries here.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (May 10, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ready for some more quarantunes and how they’re doing on the radio? Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

YEAR OF THE CAT: After stalling at #33 with “Juicy” in January, Doja Cat earns her first #1 at the Top 40 format with the song “Say So”, moving from 3-1 this week. Last month, it topped the Rhythmic radio chart. The song is also expected to be in the running for the #1 spot on tomorrow’s Billboard Hot 100 update, thanks in part to several versions of a new remix featuring Nicki Minaj.

The week’s lone top 40 entry is a huge one: Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber‘s “Stuck With U”, a new charity collaboration that shuffles in at #28. It’s the 21st top 40 hit for Grande and the 29th for Bieber, who are both managed by Scooter Braun’s SB Projects. (Braun is listed as a co-writer on the song.) The money from roughly 60% of each digital single sold will be headed towards the First Responders Children’s Foundation.

AJR and Harry Styles enter the top 50 at the format this week: the band at #47 with “Bang!” and Styles at #49 with “Watermelon Sugar”. The former entry recently hit the top five on the Alternative radio chart, while the latter impacts at both the Hot AC and Top 40 formats next week. The latter is also the follow-up to “Adore You”, which went to #1 on both charts earlier this year.
