RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, March 4-10, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Look Back” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: one previous appearance, “Ignore Me” (January 2018); previously signed to RCA Records
Notes: Yes, I know that there’s a certain irony in featuring a track called “Look Back” on a weekend when the U.S. has sprung ahead one hour. However, just as much as “Ignore Me” was a bop, “Look” is an incredibly catchy and delectable piece of pop. Sweet times!

_____

SPAZZ CARDIGAN – “Episode” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: This performer has fallen onto my radar through some mutual friends in Nashville, not to mention his song’s prominent add on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. The production on this R&B-flavored track is tight, and a clever lyric definitely doesn’t hurt.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FLETCHER – “I Believe You”
WANDERER – “Miss You More At Night”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/25 – 7/1/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FJØRA – “Wild Animals” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This female newcomer was first spotted late last year on our listen through the annual Nashville Indie Spotlight sampler, which has a lot of talent for one set. “Wild” glides its way through the Top 40 landscape, delivering a fun and familiar sound in the blog world.

_____

MYZICA – “Higher Places” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Nashville duo (Isaaca Byrd and Micah Tawlks) was last noted on the Rewind in August of last year with an Ezra Carey-assisted cover of “Drive”, one of my favorite hits from The Cars. “Higher” brings out the enchanting nostalgia of mid-to-late 90’s alternative.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Staring” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Summer sounds so good, now that our favorite Boston college band is back with another psychedelic pop gem for your current pool party playlist. The beachy feel of this guitar-driven track is effortless, and consistent with their catalog thus far. Jump in and enjoy!

_____

WANDERER – “We Were So Young” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Wandering back onto the Rewind with his first original single since November of last year is Tempe-based singer/songwriter Adam Simons, who gets us reminiscing about the simplicity of summer days from years ago. It is especially good for the end of the season.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…

CLAIRITY – “Pyrokinesis” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/4 – 6/10/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ANDREW BELLE – “Down” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Seems like we’ve had a lot of radio singles with the word “down” in their titles recently, so I guess it’s only right to spotlight a digital song that gets “down” with what’s headed up. Of Belle’s set of stand-alone singles during the last year, this is my favorite one so far.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Friday Saturday Sunday” (iTunes) (Spotify)
So far this year, Nashville singer/songwriter Reynolds has appeared as the featured artist on two solid songs, but it’s his first main-credited single for 2017 that serves future pop perfection for the weekend (as if the title wasn’t a dead giveaway.) It’s pretty catchy!

_____

SMALLPOOLS – “Million Bucks” (iTunes) (Spotify)
After parting ways with RCA, this Los Angeles trio is back to rock the charts with their forthcoming independent EP, The Science Of Letting Go. Though this doesn’t approach “Over & Over” or “Karaoke” for me yet, it fits nicely with their usual aesthetic and sound.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
BROADHURST – “Status Quo” (SoundCloud)
Mikey Wax – “Never Letting You Go” (SoundCloud)
Rooney – “Second Chances” (SoundCloud)
Wanderer – “Call Me Crazy (Acoustic)” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 3/19 – 3/25/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

AMY ALLEN – “Get Me Outta Here!” (iTunes) (Spotify)
In the past, we’ve reposted and playlisted music from a great Boston band called Amy & The Engine. Leader Allen is now recording as a solo performer, and her latest single is a catchy indie pop ditty. If you haven’t discovered her yet, this is a great start to the journey.

_____

CAFUNÉ – “How Can I Explain” (iTunes) (Spotify)
How can we explain how much we enjoy this duo’s music? Well, it’s very simple: members Sedona Schat and Noah Yoo are a talented twosome that have mastered the art of a bop. In all seriousness, this is a smooth track with an enticing darkness about it. It’s so good.

_____

WANDERER – “Dreams” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Based in Tempe, AZ, singer and songwriter Adam Simons was previously featured on the Rewind with two cuts from his EP called C I T Y. His latest single is a cover of the Fleetwood Mac hit from 1977. Of course, his take is very dreamy and lush too. It’s worth a listen.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
LOYAL – “Tower Over All” (SoundCloud)
SILENT CROWD – “Giving It Up” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 11/27 – 12/3

Record Rewind - December 4, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ADAM FRIEDMAN – “Sad” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Santa Monica singer and songwriter Friedman returns with his follow-up to “Lemonade”, and how sweet it is to have him back. This track had a fair amount of love from Spotify’s New Music Friday playlists a few days ago, including the popular U.S. list. Get happy!

_____

MATT WOODS – “If You Forget Me” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This gorgeous ballad from Woods is off his EP called Ain’t No Use, which is amazing from start to finish. Of course, I’ve spent some time with his past material, and his voice is just spectacular. He could sing the phone book and I would stream it. Yes, it’s that great.

_____

PUBLIC – “4Her” (iTunes – n/a) (Spotify – n/a)
This Cincinnati group quickly hit the top of Hype Machine’s Twitter list a few days ago, and that should bode well for their single on SoundCloud (and more services soon, hopefully!) “4Her” has a fresh and fun vibe that should appeal to indie pop and tropical fans.

_____

WANDERER – “Make You Feel” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I wandered into this Arizona performer’s catalog earlier this year, and I’m certainly glad I did. Adam Simons has a great set of songs with his C I T Y EP, one of which was highlighted on the Rewind in September: “Call Me Crazy”. Call me a big fan of his music so far.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
LONELY BENSON – “Leave You Mama” (SoundCloud)
P O P F I L T E R – “In Love Again” (SoundCloud)
THE DUNWELLS – “It’s OK This Time” (SoundCloud)
