ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (September 28, 2021)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: radio really wants Lil Nas X and the feeling is mutual. Let’s add ’em up:

“WANT” FLAUNTS: The third top 40 song from Montero is a smash on the pop airwaves, as Lil Nas X claimed the top spot on this week’s adds report at the Top 40 format. “That’s What I Want” scored 73 new stations during today’s session, which was ten adds ahead of the song that settled into the runner-up spot: “My Universe”, the buzzy collaboration from Coldplay and BTS. Given its 63 adds on impact, the tune should chart in the coming days.

Outside of the top three, new releases from GIVĒON, The Anxiety and Troye Sivan also entered the top ten for the first time.

Charting singles from the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber and Walker Hayes returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next week for another action-packed adds session.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. LIL NAS X, “That’s What I Want” (Columbia)
2. COLDPLAY x BTS, “My Universe” (Parlophone/Atlantic)
3. JONAS BROTHERS, “Who’s In Your Head” (Republic)
4. DRAKE featuring FUTURE & YOUNG THUG, “Way 2 Sexy” (OVO/Republic)
5-T. JUSTIN BIEBER, “Ghost” (Def Jam)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (August 15, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For your favorite records and rumors, here’s all that’s popping at the format this week:

“U”, “VU” AND TWO: Pop star Olivia Rodrigo holds at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for the fourth week with “Good 4 U”, while her past single “Déjà Vu” remains at #2 for the second week. The former title still leads the latter by over 800 spins.

With four recurrents being removed from the chart, there’s quite a bit of debut action in the top 40 and top 50. The highest of the four singles entering the top 40 comes from Lizzo and Cardi B. “Rumors” lands at #29, marking their fifth and 11th top 40 hits, respectively. Moving up from 43-38, Masked Wolf scores his second top 40 hit with “Say So”. Next, Conan Gray jumps from 42-39 with the song that becomes his fourth top 40 entry, “People Watching”. Lastly, the viral TikTok hit “Seaside” leaps from 45-40 for newcomer SEB, which is also on the move in the top 40 at the Alternative radio format.

Starting at #41, the Black Eyed Peas, Saweetie and Lele Pons hit the jackpot with their collaboration called “Hit It”. Madison Beer has a new entry at #45 with “Reckless”, which is followed by “Vacation” at #48, which teams two groups together for the first time: Dirty Heads and Train. The original version of the track (without Train) got to #10 on the Alternative radio chart in November 2017, but it’s been moving again recently thanks to a run on TikTok. One notch lower, Doja Cat meows in at #49 with “Need To Know”, marking the third song to chart from the Planet Her album. Finishing things off, Walker Hayes crosses from the country radio airwaves to pop playlists with a new entry at #50: “Fancy Like”.
