RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Forty

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
CARLY ROSE – “Getaway Car” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Several years after her appearance on the short-lived U.S. version of The X Factor, this performer’s new music is off to a good start. The follow-up to “Birds & Bees” received some decent playlisting on Spotify last Friday and has an intriguing dark pop/rock sound.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
FINNEAS – “Die Alone” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: 15th appearance

Here comes another featured song from the 22-year-old singer, songwriter and older brother of Billie Eilish, who charted in several countries on Apple Music and iTunes with his new release, the Blood Harmony EP. The cut makes for an excellent closer to the set.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
BRANDON COLBEIN – “Mad”
LAUV – “Sims”
RUTHANNE – “Take What I Can Get”
TIPLING ROCK – “Did I Ever Tell You?”
VIOLET SKIES – “This Could Be Love”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Three

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
ALEC BAILEY – “Grip” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Former Vine star Bailey is earning some praise for his second original song, the follow-up to “Callin'” from October of last year. The 22-year-old performer has a fairly big fan base from his years of covering and creating music, so watch out for his upcoming tracks.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
LAUREN AQUILINA – “If Looks Could Kill” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Aquilina’s prior appearance on the weekly post came back in September with her release called “Psycho”. This week, not only is her latest solo cut out, but she also appears on “FU4E”, an EP cut by the duo Los Kings. Both tracks are quality additions to her catalog.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
MISS BENNY – “Rendezvous” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Actor and social media star Ben J. Pierce previously released songs under the artist name Benny, but as Miss Benny, he’s looking to take things to the next level. With a fierce sound that’s catchy and confident, 2019 should be a great year for the teenage performer.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 4/2 – 4/8/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JUKEBOX THE GHOST – “Stay The Night” (iTunes) (Spotify)
What happens when this Brooklyn-based trio, responsible for the #1 song (“Postcard”) on my Top 100 of 2015, returns with one of the brightest and most radio-friendly singles of their career? You put that jam on repeat, that’s what you do. It’s great for summer!

_____

PAPERWHITE – “Wash Us Away” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Just under two months after siblings Ben and Katie Marshall last appeared on the Rewind with “Human Nature”, the Brooklyn duo adds one more bop to their collection. It starts out smoothly, then explodes with a powerful chorus. I hope it doesn’t go “away” yet.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “A Side / B Side” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been a moment since these Boston college kids put out a new song, and if this was their final exam, I’d give them high marks. It’s probably not a surprise, however, since I’ve written about the guys several times before. Dig into their psychedelic pop power now!

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Ben Hobbs – “Shame (Acoustic)” (SoundCloud)
Benji Lewis – “For You” (SoundCloud)
Denny White – “Whatcha Thinking About” (SoundCloud)
Red Rosamond – “Don’t Let Our Love Go Cold” (SoundCloud)
Rows – “New Heart” (SoundCloud)
