Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. If you’re ready to fall into the chart stats for the week, here’s what’s popping at the format:

DAN’S THE MAN: With the second-slowest run ever to #1 at the pop format, Trevor Daniel‘s “Falling” rises from 2-1 in its 28th week in the top 40. His follow-up single, the Selena Gomez-assisted “Past Life”, rises from 22-18.

The Kane Brown, Swae Lee and Khalid collaboration “Be Like That” continues its momentum at the Top 40 format and reaches the chart with a high debut at #35. It’s the second pop radio hit for Brown, the fifth solo for Lee and the 12th for Khalid. Ava Max is up from 43-36 with “Kings & Queens”, marking her third top 40 single to date. Sia also rises into the top 40 with the soundtrack cut “Together”, taken from her upcoming film Music. It rises from 42-40 to become her tenth solo song to reach the region here.

The Killers lead this week’s top 50 action with “Caution”, a recent #1 song on the Alternative and Triple A charts that starts at #47. Two viral tracks that reacted on the video platform TikTok are next: Curtis Waters and Harm Franklin check in with “Stunnin'” at #48, while Avenue Beat is new at #49 with the topical “F2020”. Another new song in the top ten is Avenue Beat‘s “F2020”, which ties for eighth place with 15 stations this week. After going viral on the video platform TikTok, the trio released a full version, which is reacting nicely at both digital retail and streaming.

Charting singles from Ava Max, Jack Harlow and Jackson Wang returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap, including music from Tate McRae and Zara Larsson.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (July 12, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Put your mask on and the radio up, because here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

PUT YOUR “LIGHTS” ON: The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” picks up a seventh nonconsecutive week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart, down a little over 300 spins from last week. Look for Trevor Daniel‘s “Falling”, which remains at #2 again, to attempt a run at the top spot during the coming week.

Three singles enter the top 40 on this week’s chart, led by the first top 40 entry for Jack Harlow, which vaults from 45-34. “What’s Poppin” also moves from 2-1 on the Rhythmic chart, becoming Harlow’s first #1 tune at the format, and currently ranks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following him, Kygo and OneRepublic lift from 44-35 with “Lose Somebody”. This is the seventh top 40 entry for Kygo on the list and the 14th for OneRepublic, who have been charting since 2007. Format newcomers Topic and A7S also land in the region with their recent Dance radio hit “Breaking Me”, which climbs from 47-40 this week.

Flying into the top 50, Ava Max‘s “Kings & Queens” has a royal landing at #43, as she gets closer to her third top 40 song to date. It starts four spots ahead of StaySolidRocky‘s viral hit “Party Girl”, which checks in at #47. Additionally, AJ Mitchell is new at #48 with “Burn”. Mitchell and Max previously collaborated on his song “Slow Dance”, which peaked at #26 in December 2019.

This week: Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez are the life of the pop party, as their hit duet is still hot at the format. Let’s add ’em up:

BLAST FROM THE “PAST”: The top two titles on the usual adds report remain in the same order as last week, with Daniel and Gomez’s “Past Life” ranking in first place with another 68 adds, while Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo‘s “Savage Love” scores with an impact week of 50 more stations, good for the runner-up position. The two songs jumped into the top 40 on this past weekend’s published chart with ease and should continue to fly through the end of the summer.

The biggest new entry to the top five is Ava Max‘s “Kings & Queens”, which scores 28 stations on impact for a third place finish. A difference of one add separated it from the Topic and A7S collaboration called “Breaking Me”, which landed in fourth.

Charting singles from Cyn, Jack Harlow and Sia returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap!

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (July 5, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. The temperature is hot and the songs of the summer are sizzling, so here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

ANOTHER JULY WEEKND: With a small drop in airplay vs. last week, The Weeknd‘s big hit “Blinding Lights” is launching all kinds of fireworks at the Top 40 format, as it easily earns a sixth nonconsecutive week at the top. The multi-format smash also leads the Hot AC chart for an eighth week. Will it extend its run at both formats by next Sunday? Stay tuned.

Two big collaborations debut in the top 40 on this week’s survey: the higher of the two, Trevor Daniel and Selena Gomez‘s “Past Life”, bolts onto the entire chart way up at #29. It’s the second top 40 entry for Daniel, who’s still on the rise from 4-2 with “Falling”, and the 19th solo chart hit for Gomez. Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo‘s “Savage Love” also has an impressive start at #38, marking their first and 21st top 40 singles at the format, respectively. Jawsh 685’s original instrumental tune went viral on the video platform TikTok earlier this year.

More collaborations are also making themselves known in the top 50 this week: Kygo and OneRepublic‘s “Lose Somebody”, rising through the top 30 on the Hot AC chart, wins a Top 40 debut at #44, as Regard and Raye‘s “Secrets” has a quieter start at #49.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (February 25, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Top 40 radio is still lonely for Lauv, who is looking top 40 bound with his latest single. Get in your feels and let’s add ’em up:

WHEN LAUV TAKES OVER: Blasting in with the follow-up to the Anne-Marie collaboration “F**k, I’m Lonely”, which got as high as #30 on the Top 40 chart last November and December, Lauv’s “Modern Loneliness” leads the adds update with 36 stations on impact. Though its first-week total is smaller than normal, an independent release taking the top spot is still very impressive. At this point, the song should easily find its way into the top 50 by the weekend, just ahead of the launch for his new album ~How I’m Feeling~ on March 6.

Much like with Lauv’s newest release, this week’s numbers for impacting tracks are generally lower, though a pair of collaborations led by Diplo and Meduza finish the day in the top ten with ties for second and seventh place, respectively.

Charting songs from Doja Cat, Khalid and Roddy Ricch are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

A battle is brewing for next week’s adds report, as both Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga‘s new singles fight for the top spot.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. LAUV, “Modern Loneliness” (AWAL/in2une)
2-T. DIPLO featuring MORGAN WALLEN & JULIA MICHAELS, “Heartless” (Columbia)
2-T. DOJA CAT, “Say So” (Kemosabe/RCA)
4. RODDY RICCH, “The Box” (Atlantic)
5. BLACK EYED PEAS x J BALVIN, “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)” (Epic)
6. MONSTA X, “You Can’t Hold My Heart” (Epic)
7-T. KHALID x DISCLOSURE, “Know Your Worth” (RCA)
7-T. MEDUZA, BECKY HILL & GOODBOYS, “Lose Control” (Astralwerks/Capitol)
9. TREVOR DANIEL, “Falling” (Alamo/Interscope)
10. JUSTIN BIEBER featuring QUAVO, “Intentions” (Def Jam)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (January 14, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Alicia Keys and Halsey have the key records finishing in the top two. At the end of the day, it was a close one. Did the underdog succeed? Let’s add ’em up:

YOU SHOULD BE AT THE TOP: After a very tight battle for the top of the report this week, Keys’s “Underdog” narrowly edged out Halsey’s “You Should Be Sad” as the Most Added song at the Top 40 format. The former checked in with 119 stations, while the latter came in with 111. Keys, who will be hosting the Grammy Awards at the end of the month, recently scored her first chart entry at the format in seven years. Halsey, whose Manic album streets this Friday, recently peaked at #8 here with “Graveyard”.

International hit “Ride It” by DJ/producer Regard makes its first trip into the top ten this week, securing 11 adds and eighth place on the leaderboard. The song has been moving towards the top 50 for a few weeks now; we’ll see if this boost gets it in there.

Charting songs from Lewis Capaldi and Trevor Daniel are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

What a man gotta do to get the Most Added song at the format? The Jonas Brothers will let us in on the answer next Tuesday.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (TWELVE)
1. ALICIA KEYS, “Underdog” (RCA)
2. HALSEY, “You Should Be Sad” (Capitol)
3. CAMILA CABELLO featuring DABABY, “My Oh My” (Syco/Epic)
4. THE WEEKND, “Blinding Lights” (XO/Republic)
5. TREVOR DANIEL, “Falling” (Alamo/Interscope)
6-T. ED SHEERAN featuring CAMILA CABELLO & CARDI B, “South Of The Border” (Atlantic)
6-T. LEWIS CAPALDI, “Before You Go” (Capitol)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three new hits impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

ALICIA KEYS – “Underdog” (RCA)
Album: TBA (2020)
Past T40 History: Keys reached the top ten in January 2013 with “Girl On Fire”, but larger success has eluded her in recent years.

HALSEY – “You Should Be Sad” (Capitol)
Album: Manic (2020)
Past T40 History: As “Graveyard” is laid to rest at the format following its #8 peak last month, this follow-up is building very fast.

Album: Homesick (EP) (2018)
Past T40 History: Fueled by TikTok and a notable sales and streaming response, Daniel recently earned his first top 40 song here.
