Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. For the top songs and performers, both old and Yung, let’s see what’s popping at the format this week:
KID PLUS 8: “Stay” earns an eighth week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart, as The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber continue their run with the longest-running #1 song of 2021 at the Top 40 format. It also remains atop the Hot AC radio chart, now in its third week there.
We’ve seen a pair of top 40 hits from Elton John (1981) and Emblem3 (2013) about a girl named “Chloe” and now the performer who bills herself simply as Chlöe enters the top 40 for the first time. “Have Mercy” moves from 41-39 this week, as the tune continues to approach the top ten on the Rhythmic and Urban radio charts. Meanwhile, Trevor Daniel jumps from 42-40 with his third top 40 song thus far, “Alone”. It interpolates “Better Off Alone”, the only chart hit at the format for Alice Deejay, which spent four weeks at #19 in the spring and summer of 2000.
In the top 50, Anitta and Sweetie lead four new entries in the region with “Faking Love”, which starts at #47. One spot lower, Charli XCX is in with “Good Ones” at #48. Her new release also appears in the top 50 on the Hot AC chart this week at #47, but with a significantly lower spin total. Imagine Dragons re-enter at #49 with “Follow You”, a former #1 hit on the Alternative radio chart from earlier this year. On the Top 40 chart, the track peaked at #47 in the late spring and hasn’t ranked in the top 50 since June. Lastly, at #50, Yung Bleu starts with the Chris Brown and 2 Chainz-assisted “Baddest”, a current top five hit on the Rhythmic and Urban charts.
