Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independe2nt songs of the week…

_____

CAPPA – “Tension” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Four previous appearances, most recently “Hey Hi Hello” (September 2016)
Notes: After almost two years away from the Rewind, this Los Angeles singer is back with a fun and quirky new cut that really pops.

_____

KIM PETRAS – “Can’t Do Better” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: This German singer returns with another great pop release with a booming hook that will get stuck in your head quite easily.

_____

PHANGS featuring MYSTERY SKULLS – “Louder” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Six previous appearances, most recently “Good Now” (February 2018) / First appearance
Notes: For that after hours disco party, or any time of day, this collaboration will have you blasting the sound and moving your feet.

_____

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, February 11-17, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BEN HOBBS – “Two Pieces” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: four previous appearances, “Shame” (February 2017) being the most recent feature
Notes: Hobbs has been pretty consistent with the quality of his music, and it’s great to have him back with his first new track of the year. It’s notably different from his prior song, which was decidedly more pop/rock, though this jam will definitely get you moving.

_____

CARLIE HANSON – “Us” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: two previous appearances, “Only One” (November 2017) being the most recent feature
Notes: Hanson has quickly become one of my favorite newcomers of the past six months, having delivered bops on bops with “Why Did You Lie?” last summer and “Only” noted above. Blame it all on Drake, or the catchiness of this song: it’s bound to be a huge hit.

_____

HUMAN NATURAL – “Fantasy” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: first appearance
Notes: The duo of Hannah Winkler and Brian Robert Jones have a sensational sound with their first single to make my column. An energetic ride into the world of glitch pop and electronic music awaits your ears, but please, braid your hair before this tune begins.

_____

LAUV – “Getting Over You” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: seven previous appearances, “Paris In The Rain” (November 2017) being the most recent feature
Notes: Singer and songwriter Ari Leff’s latest release to make the report bears a title that’s the exact opposite of how I feel about his catalog so far. The accessible pop single has a relatable message, and should be another winner with casual and hardcore fans alike.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
CHELSEA CUTLER – “Out Of Focus”
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “Just Say It”
LOSTBOYCROW – “Church With No Ceiling”
PHANGS – “Good Now”
THE BEACH – “Our Favourite Song”
TIPLING ROCK – “TMSN”
TRENT DABBS – “Matter Of Time”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/27 – 9/2/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “On Our Own” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Yes, we might be shedding a tear or two for the finale of Major’s A Song For Every Moon project, but it’s been a very nice project to watch unfold. The delicate single is emotional, with Major at his best vocally, combined with a dramatic arrangement. It’s a winner.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Love Without A Reason” (iTunes) (Spotify)
These four schoolmates from Boston are usually teaching us about the philosophies of psychedelic pop, but this month, the lesson’s in acoustic pop done right. “Love” showcases a cool new side to the band, as they pull off mellow music with ease. It’s an easy listen.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
AARON TAOS – “Bangs” (SoundCloud)
FJØRA – “Shallow” (SoundCloud)
MARK ELLIOTT – “Summer Storm” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/25 – 7/1/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FJØRA – “Wild Animals” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This female newcomer was first spotted late last year on our listen through the annual Nashville Indie Spotlight sampler, which has a lot of talent for one set. “Wild” glides its way through the Top 40 landscape, delivering a fun and familiar sound in the blog world.

_____

MYZICA – “Higher Places” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Nashville duo (Isaaca Byrd and Micah Tawlks) was last noted on the Rewind in August of last year with an Ezra Carey-assisted cover of “Drive”, one of my favorite hits from The Cars. “Higher” brings out the enchanting nostalgia of mid-to-late 90’s alternative.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Staring” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Summer sounds so good, now that our favorite Boston college band is back with another psychedelic pop gem for your current pool party playlist. The beachy feel of this guitar-driven track is effortless, and consistent with their catalog thus far. Jump in and enjoy!

_____

WANDERER – “We Were So Young” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Wandering back onto the Rewind with his first original single since November of last year is Tempe-based singer/songwriter Adam Simons, who gets us reminiscing about the simplicity of summer days from years ago. It is especially good for the end of the season.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
BLAIR – “Oceans” (SoundCloud)
CLAIRITY – “Pyrokinesis” (SoundCloud)
GREYSON CHANCE – “Seasons” (SoundCloud)

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

JUKEBOX THE GHOST – “Stay The Night” (iTunes) (Spotify)
What happens when this Brooklyn-based trio, responsible for the #1 song (“Postcard”) on my Top 100 of 2015, returns with one of the brightest and most radio-friendly singles of their career? You put that jam on repeat, that’s what you do. It’s great for summer!

_____

PAPERWHITE – “Wash Us Away” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Just under two months after siblings Ben and Katie Marshall last appeared on the Rewind with “Human Nature”, the Brooklyn duo adds one more bop to their collection. It starts out smoothly, then explodes with a powerful chorus. I hope it doesn’t go “away” yet.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “A Side / B Side” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been a moment since these Boston college kids put out a new song, and if this was their final exam, I’d give them high marks. It’s probably not a surprise, however, since I’ve written about the guys several times before. Dig into their psychedelic pop power now!

Record Rewind - January 1, 2017

Happy New Year from PGTC! It’s Sunday afternoon, which means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

This week, it’s a Record Rewind special, presenting thirty of the top tracks to make my Spotify playlists throughout 2016. So many great new artists put their music online this year, while those established in the blog world continued to create massive tunes. You will find a Spotify playlist below of all thirty songs, plus twelve highlighted throughout the post. By the way, several hundred songs made these lists during the year, so don’t feel bad if yours isn’t below. It was hard! 2017 is a new year, so give it your best shot.

Check out our Spotify profile page for the Indie Winter Mix (2015/2016), Indie Spring Mix, Indie Summer Mix and Indie Fall Mix for all the action from this year.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/25 – 10/1

Record Rewind - October 2, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “There’s Little Left” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major really impressed me with his last single, “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”, which spread across the blogs shortly after its release in August. Don’t let the title fool you; there’s certainly more left from this budding performer and his neo soul cut. It’s refreshing.

_____

CAPE CUB – “Lifeline” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you don’t know Chad Male’s great project by now, I’ve only written and posted my love for it about a million times. So, would it be alright if I make it a million and one? With another cut from his upcoming 6AM EP, it’s another winner for the indie rock crew.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Alive” (iTunes) (Spotify)
A little under two years ago, this California singer/songwriter pitched me his EP at the time, Simple Things. Driven by streams of “Miles On My Heart”, it’s done 775,000+ combined plays to date on Spotify. He has a catchy sync song now, and lots of potential.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Campus Fashion” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you detest back-to-school season, or all those midterms coming your way, chances are that you can at least enjoy this A+ single. It comes from a Boston quartet that I’ve enjoyed for some time now, making psychedelic pop sound pretty groovy in 2016. Dig in.

_____

WHISSELL – “Pain Of Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s always excellent to get a new single from Nashville’s Lauren Whistle, who combines the 60’s soul and grit of Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra with 90’s Alternative girls like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos. You’ll feel pleasure over “Pain” after listening to it.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
JAMES CHERRY – “Break Somebody” (SoundCloud)
KING DECO – “Ready My Lips” (SoundCloud)
ROMA – “Missing Out” (SoundCloud)
SILENT CROWD – “Candy” (SoundCloud)
