RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (February 7, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Even though this week’s update is looking a little bit lonelier, it’s time for a recap of what’s popping at the format this week:

“LONELY” AT THE TOP: After a close call for much of the week, the Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco collaboration “Lonely” rises from 4-1 on the Top 40 chart, while Ariana Grande‘s “34+35” lands in the runner-up spot, moving from #5 last week. This is the ninth #1 track at the format for Bieber and the second for Blanco as an artist. Meanwhile, Grande falls from 1-3 with “Positions”, which just held the top spot for the past seven weeks, while Bieber slides from 2-7 with the Chance The Rapper-assisted “Holy”.

Sabrina Carpenter scores her fifth top 40 single on the Top 40 list with “Skin”, leaping from 43-34 this week. All four of her prior chart entries climbed into the top 30, but stopped short of a top 20 peak. Further down, 52-year-old DJ/producer Tiësto is up from 41-36 with “The Business”, becoming his fourth top 40 entry to date. Also breaking into the region at age 46, Nelly returns with “Lil Bit”, lifting from 42-39 this week. The single reunites him with the duo Florida Georgia Line, whose remix of “Cruise” went to #7 in 2013. Individually, it marks their 23rd and fifth top 40 hits to date, respectively.

Labelmates SZA and Doja Cat enter the top 50 this week, with “Good Days” and “Streets” landing at #46 and #47, respectively.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (January 24, 2021)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. It’s time to get down to business and have a look at what’s popping at the format this week:

GRANDE CENTRAL: Ariana Grande‘s “Positions” holds steady for a sixth week at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart. The track is up in airplay at both the Rhythmic and Hot AC formats, appearing at #9 and #13, respectively. It’s likely to spend a seventh week at the top, unless one of Justin Bieber‘s recent singles receives an extra boost during the new tracking week.

Up from 42-39, LOONA has a starring role in the top 40 this week with “Star”. It’s the first top 40 entry at the format for the K-pop group. Meanwhile, Zara Larsson and Young Thug blast from 48-40 with “Talk About Love”, which becomes their tenth and fifth top 40 hits, respectively.

Further down in the top 50, Ava Max checks in at #41 with “My Head & My Heart”, which follows her recent top five song “Kings & Queens”. DJ/producer Tiësto scores his first top 50 entry since 2018 with “The Business”, which appears at #46. One collaboration is new to the region at #49: Jason Derulo and Adam Levine team up for “Lifestyle”, as the former’s current solo track “Take You Dancing” remains active in the top 15. Finally, we say “Oops!” and “hello” to newcomer Yung Gravy, who starts at #50.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (August 14, 2018)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: chart hits by acts like Ariana Grande, Bazzi and The Chainsmokers, among others, shine on a quiet week, while an Alternative crossover title from Weezer takes us across the globe. Let’s add ’em up:

YES WE CHAN: As iHeartMedia’s annual late summer music summit takes over the Big Apple this week, final results are split at the Top 40 format, with no overwhelmingly dominant tracks in the mix. Leading the way with 22 new stations, “Jackie Chan” from Tiësto and Dzeko featuring Preme and Post Malone ranks as the Most Added single for the first time, while “Side Effects”, the latest collaboration from The Chainsmokers and Emily Warren, fills the runner-up spot with 20 new stations. As you can see, nothing particularly earth-shattering, but that will certainly change next week! (Details to come.)

With that said, though there were fewer new titles reaching the upper regions of the list, some acts took advantage of a soft week to grab a solid week of adds. Weezer‘s smash cover of the Toto hit “Africa”, currently atop the Alternative radio chart, scored 16 this week, tying it with Tyga‘s huge Rhythmic and Urban single “Taste”, featuring Offset, which impacts here for the second time. The former title, which is just below the top 50, should enter the region this weekend, while the latter tune should enter the top 40 very soon.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. TIESTO & DZEKO featuring PREME and POST MALONE, “Jackie Chan” (Casablanca/Republic)
2. THE CHAINSMOKERS featuring EMILY WARREN, “Side Effects” (Disruptor/Columbia)
3-T. LOVELYTHEBAND, “Broken” (RED)
3-T. SABRINA CARPENTER, “Almost Love” (Hollywood)
5. BAZZI featuring CAMILA CABELLO, “Beautiful” (APG/Atlantic)
6-T. ANNE-MARIE, “2002” (Warner Bros.)
6-T. ARIANA GRANDE, “God Is A Woman” (Republic)
6-T. TYGA featuring OFFSET, “Taste” (Lost Kings/EMPIRE)
6-T. WEEZER, “Africa” (Crush Music/RRP)
10. CHARLIE PUTH, “The Way I Am” (Artist Partner/Atlantic)
