RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 18, 2018)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Are we happy about Thanksgiving? We may know a few guys who are happier than most this week, but it’s merely a rumor. Anyways, here’s all the action this Sunday:

BASTILLE’S DAY: After topping the Alternative chart two weeks ago, “Happier” by Marshmello x Bastille becomes the new #1 song at the Top 40 format, advancing from #2 last week. It’s the first song by both acts to lead the pop chart. It’s also the first title to reach the top at both formats since “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons during the fall of last year. The collaboration still has a chance at topping the Hot AC survey, up 9-7 on the current chart. Meanwhile, on the Top 40 airwaves, Ariana Grande‘s “Breathin” (up 8-4) and Panic! At The Disco‘s “High Hopes” (up 10-5) should battle it out for the next chart-topper in the coming weeks.

HITS RUN “DEEP”: Making a move from 43-39 this week, Zara Larsson‘s “Ruin My Life” becomes her seventh top 40 single at the format and leads a pair of new entries to the region. The other title, “Waste It On Me”, crawls up one notch from 41-40 and gives both Steve Aoki and BTS their third top 40 titles here. Additionally, Aoki previously remixed BTS’s first single to reach the Top 40 chart, “MIC Drop”, which spent two weeks at #24 in January.

Further down the list, prominent re-entries by Bad Bunny featuring Drake (“MIA”, #44) and Rita Ora (“Let You Love Me”, #45) lead the way with notable moves back into the region. The highest new song of the week, checking in at #48, is the debut chart entry for singer Ava Max. “Sweet But Psycho” has been a Viral hit on Spotify for some time and is reacting very well nationally in parts of Europe. Additionally, Logan Henderson‘s “Pull Me Deep” breaks in at #50, his second solo single to reach the region. In May, the first of his two entries, “Bite My Tongue”, got to #38. He also sang on three top 40 songs for the boy band Big Time Rush.
