RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/14-20/18

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BETTY WHO – “Ignore Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: none; previously signed to RCA Records
Notes: Who may now be an independent artist, but she certainly doesn’t miss a beat. In fact, “Ignore Me” wasn’t ignored at all a few days ago, when it was added on several of Spotify’s New Music Friday lists, and the lead position on the PGTC Friday Faves playlist.

_____

JOHNNY STIMSON – “Wild World” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: “Time Machine” (March) had a prominent feature and “Honeymoon” (June) was noted as an additional pick
Notes: Stimson knows how to get my attention with a great stripped-down release. He says he wrote this single to realize “that even though the world is dark sometimes”, he should “stop and notice the beautiful things” within his world. It’s truly an authentic tune.

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
LOSTBOYCROW – “I’m A Sailor Not A Salesman” (SoundCloud)
SAM FISCHER – “This City” (SoundCloud)
SUPER DUPER – “Far From Falling” (SoundCloud)
THE SHANTICS – “Mind Pop” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/17 – 9/23/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

SUPER DUPER featuring QUINN LEWIS – “Hollow” (Spotify)
Nashville-based producer Josh Hawkins and singer Lewis have both been featured on the Rewind in the past few months, so if bops are what you want, these men are pretty reliable. Together, they’ve combined to create a super single from Hawkins’s upcoming set.

_____

THRIVING IVORY – “See You” (Spotify)
Has it been a minute since you’ve seen the name of this group? Same here. Yes, this is the same act (performing as a duo) that had a chart song called “Angels On The Moon” on the Hot AC and Top 40 formats in 2008-9, and their newest single is surprisingly good.

_____

DERMOT KENNEDY – “Moments Passed” (SoundCloud)
FRILLS – “Magic Tide” (SoundCloud)
OFELIA K – “Killing Me (Go Sun Come Moon)” (SoundCloud)
TRENTON – “Don’t Hide Yourself” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/23 – 7/29/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PHANGS – “I Think I’m In Love?” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This week’s Nashville lovefest begins with my favorite song from an EP that came out on Friday titled Get In My Arms, which you’ll need to get in your ears as soon as you’re done reading this. Jake Germany has a good thing going with his solo project. Great stuff!

_____

QUINN LEWIS – “Slipping” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Originally from Brisbane, now based in Nashville, this performer is enjoying his first appearance on the Rewind, though I did enjoy the title song from his EP Addicted quite a bit last fall. Lewis won’t be slipping off my radar anytime soon; his new pop bop is great.

_____

WHISSELL – “Living Now” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I’ve certainly enjoyed a lot of new music from Lauren Whistle this year, including her EP Old Souls, Young Bodies in January and a pack of three additional stand-alone singles since the late spring. She delivers on another well-crafted production and melody here.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
CLUB DRIVE – “International” (SoundCloud)
FJØRA – “Zodiac” (SoundCloud)
JAMES CHERRY – “On My Mind” (SoundCloud)
SUPER DUPER featuring LOUIS JOHNSON – “Second Chances” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/18 – 6/24/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

COURTSHIP. – “Perfect People” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The Los Angeles duo of Eli Hirsch and Micah Gordon continues to craft excellent cuts for the blog world, with “Love For Everyone” and “Sunroof” among my favorites from them. “Perfect” has a lovely nostalgic feel, sounding like a nod to late 70’s California rock.

_____

KAPTAN – “Better” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I’ve been a big supporter of Andrew de Torres’s current project on the blog for a couple of years now, though he hasn’t appeared in a Rewind post since “Numbers” in July 2016. Well, you can re-examine those numbers now, as his alternative pop jam gets started.

____

Bel Heir – “California High” (SoundCloud)
RKCB – “Vice” (SoundCloud)
Sam Tinnesz featuring Super Duper – “Babel” (SoundCloud)

VÉRITÉ – “Control” (SoundCloud)
