RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (December 13, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. This weekend, menorahs are burning bright across the nation and so is the pop radio chart, which lights up with new tunes. Here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

WHO’S BEHIND THE DIOR: 24KGoldn and Iann Dior hold at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for the eighth week with “Mood”. The collaboration is now the longest-running #1 song of the year at the pop format. With two more chart weeks during 2020 for it to expand on that total, we’ll see if it goes any further soon.

Thanks to several songs headed to recurrent status, there’s quite a bit of action in the lower regions of the chart this week. Leading a pack of four new titles in the top 40, All Time Low and Blackbear leap from 46-33 with “Monsters”. It’s the first top 40 single for the band and the seventh for Blackbear, who was certainly on a hot streak in 2020. The tune holds at #1 on the Alternative chart this week, marking its 13th nonconsecutive week at the summit. Landing at #38 is “Body”, the third top 40 hit on the pop list for Megan Thee Stallion. It’s now in the top 20 on both the Rhythmic and Urban charts. Bad Bunny hops along and collects his third top 40 hit with “Dàkiti”, rising from 45-39. It’s the first top 40 single for his collaborator Jhay Cortez. Finally, jumping from 50-40 on the chart, Sigala and James Arthur score their first and second top 40 hits, respectively, with “Lasting Lover”. It remains at #1 on the Dance list for a third week in a row.

After two days of airplay, Taylor Swift‘s “Willow” bows at #41. It’s the first charting song from her new album Evermore. From the Alternative chart, two recent top five songs inquisitively reach the Top 40 list this week: Wallows with “Are You Bored Yet?” at #47 and Dayglow with “Can I Call You Tonight?” at #49. Finally, at #50, newcomer HVME sneaks into the region with “Goosebumps”, a flip of a Travis Scott song from 2016 that did not previously chart here, but hit #1 at the Rhythmic format in the spring of 2017.

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: All Time Low ends our 2020 logs with a monster win at the format! The last impact date of the year just concluded, so let’s add ’em up:

LOW GOES HIGH: Crossing over from the Alternative radio chart, where it’s placed at #1 for 12 of the last 13 weeks, “Monsters” by All Time Low and Blackbear is the Most Added single at the Top 40 format with 50 stations on impact. A new remix with Demi Lovato was released last week. This is the band’s largest impact week to date and will easily earn them their highest-charting tune at the format by the end of the month.

In second place, Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Body” earned another 30 commitments this week, as it also approaches the top 40 here on the pop chart. It was the week’s Most Added single at the Urban format, collecting a huge total of 65 stations, while also landing another 25 adds on the Rhythmic report, where it secured the runner-up position.

Charting singles from Jason Derulo, Pop Smoke and The Weeknd returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

That’s it for now! Regular weekend radio updates will continue through the freeze. See you in 2021 for more adds action.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (December 6, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. With the holiday freeze approaching, slower weeks are ahead, but not before some decent December action on the charts. Here’s what’s popping at the format this week:

SEVEN GOLDN WEEKS: 24KGoldn and Iann Dior stay at #1 on the Top 40 radio chart for the seventh consecutive week with “Mood”, tying for the longest run of the year so far along with top titles from Harry Styles and The Weeknd. “Mood” is still more than 1,600 spins ahead of the song in the runner-up position.

Two newcomers reach the top 40 with their first chart singles: The Kid LAROI soars from 44-39 with “So Done”, while Ashnikko is up from 42-40 with “Daisy”. The former is currently based in Australia, while the latter is in England (but she was born and raised in North Carolina.)

Thanks to a newly-released remix that features Demi Lovato, who is not currently credited on Mediabase, the current #1 hit on the Alternative chart by All Time Low and Blackbear enters at #46. “Monsters” is the third song by the band to reach the top 50 here since their debut in 2011. Following the collaborative trend, David Guetta and Sia are also new at #48 with “Let’s Love”, as Sigala and James Arthur come in at #50 with “Lasting Lover”.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of September 28, 2018

Just a Lil taste of this week.

It’s one of the most exciting chart battles of the year! Three prominent rap titles are set to shake up the top three spots on the album chart. Get ready, because these are the notable digital and physical releases hitting the market today:

LIL WAYNE – Tha Carter V (iTunes)
Seven years after Tha Carter IV arrived and following a series of delays in the past few years, this rapper is back with what’s sure to be one of the biggest streaming debuts of the year so far. Though little is known about the tracklisting, perhaps that mystery will prove to be a key in driving listeners to check out the set. How high will it go? We can only guess.

KANYE WEST – Yandhi (iTunes)
After a performance on Saturday Night Live this coming weekend, this effort should see a good boost on the sales and streaming charts. It comes during a very active year for West musically, who released his own studio album, followed by an album as one half of a new duo and then produced two other albums during the summer months.

LOGIC – Young Sinatra 4 (iTunes)
On any other week, this set probably would’ve debuted at #1. In fact, the rapper’s Bobby Tarantino II mixtape did so earlier this year. This album should still have a solid debut, regardless, becoming his fifth top five entry on the Billboard 200 chart.
