RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty One

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
R3HAB x HRVY – “Be Okay” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance (HRVY is signed to Virgin/Capitol)

Both R3HAB and HRVY have had plenty of great tracks included on our Friday Faves list, so combining their talents on one song is obviously a pretty good way to earn a spot on our recap. In an era when we want to be okay ourselves, the song has a good message.

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
CALL ME LOOP – “Strike”
CHRIS WALLACE – “Insecurities”
CIAN DUCROT – “Anyone But Her”
COREY HARPER – “Fade To Black”

MOKITA – “Over You”
SHY MARTIN – “Nobody Likes Moving On”

RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Fifteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
JESSE MCCARTNEY – “Yours” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

With a new single out and rumors that he may be a fan of turtles, particularly singing turtles, the former Dream Street member and actor is having a moment with his reignited solo music career. This release, with a particularly personal set of lyrics, is quality stuff.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
SHY MARTIN – “Can I Call You Back?” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

This is the third song of 2020 by Swedish singer/songwriter Martin to be featured on the Rewind, with “Slow” and “Still The Same” (a collaboration with Rewind alum Boy In Space) also catching my attention in prior weeks. We’ll call her new tune a very good cut.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
AARON SMITH – “Brother”
ALFIE TEMPLEMAN – “Happiness In Liquid Form”
JORDAN FISHER – “Walking On The Ceiling”

RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Nine

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
SHY MARTIN featuring BOY IN SPACE – “Still The Same” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance / Second appearance

You’ve seen both of these performers spotlighted on the Rewind with their own solo material, so it’s no surprise that they work very well together. Last October, they teamed up on the song “On A Prayer”. Now, our prayers have been answered for a good follow-up.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ADAM MELCHOR – “30 Minutes”
BRIGETTA – “Could’ve, Should’ve, Would’ve”
JAKE SCOTT – “Open Eyes”
JT ROACH – “Black Hair Ties”
OVERSTREET – “For A Heartache”

RECORD REWIND 2020: PGTC Picks, Week Two

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
NIGHTLY – “The Movies” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

After several years signed in the Interscope family, this duo from Nashville has been releasing music independently since the fall. If their new song is any indication, they’d be great at providing the soundtrack to some nostalgic films. It’s a cool softer new wave cut.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
SHY MARTIN – “Slow” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Talented singer and songwriter Martin returns to the Rewind for her first appearance of the new year, and as the title appropriately suggests to us, she’s taking the tempo down on this release. Luckily, this stripped back and vulnerable ballad is a winner this week.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
COLONY HOUSE – “Where I’m From”
EMMANUEL FRANCO – “Do Me Like A Drug”
KODALINE – “Wherever You Are”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Forty Five

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
SHY MARTIN – “Make Us Never Happen” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Singer and songwriter Martin has one of the best new pop releases of the last week, which marks her first track on the weekly recap since June’s “Same Old”. The single, which reflects on the past trajectory of a relationship, has a strong and relatable lyric for many.

_____

ALLIE X – “Regulars”
BRONZE AVERY – “Messy”
GREG HOLDEN – “Honest”
LAUREN SANDERSON – “Upset”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty Three

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
LO LO – “Dancing In The Dark” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Covering a Bruce Springsteen song successfully is a really tough job, especially one as big as this tune became in 1984. However, the Canadian performer Lo Lo is up for the challenge and passes the test with flying colors. It’s a solid pop reimagining of a rock classic.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
SHY MARTIN – “Same Old” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

Singer and songwriter Martin has written with top pop talents and sung quite a few great tracks herself, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that her brand new release is here on the Rewind. Following another good single in “Out Of My Hands”, her sound isn’t “Old” at all.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
CHLOE HOWL – “In The Middle (Sad Banger)”
CHRIS AYER – “Dinosaurs”
EIGHTY NINETY – “10K Summer Nights”
KIM PETRAS – “Clarity”
NAWAS featuring BIG SAM & DA PHESSAH – “Buy My Love”
VINCINT – “Say”
ZAYDE WØLF – “The Boys Of Summer”
