ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (May 12, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber get stuck at the top of the report by a pretty large margin, so stick around and let’s add ’em up:

THE POP U-NIVERSE: ‘Tis a great time to be charitable! The new charity tune from Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber picked up a super 163 stations on impact, easily making it this week’s Most Added song at the format. “Stuck With U” also topped the Hot AC report yesterday with another 65 adds there and claimed a third place finish at the Rhythmic format, checking in with 20 stations.

No additional impacting tracks landed in the top five, but Lil Mosey‘s “Blueberry Faygo”, which heads for adds next Tuesday, tied for third place with 23 new stations this week. Another track that’s bound to hold up a week from today is the new single by Harry Styles, as “Watermelon Sugar” landed in fifth with another 18 adds this week. Gee, this Top 40 fruit salad is tasty so far, but we do need some grapes and mangos and pineapples to fill it out, you know? Get to work, songwriters!

Charting singles from Marshmello & Halsey and Megan Thee Stallion return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap, including data on new singles from the Jonas Brothers and Madison Beer.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 28, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: in a very divided week at this format, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato are more than ready for a second week atop the adds report. Who else qualified for a medal? Let’s add ’em up:

“READY” FOR MORE: For the second week in a row, Smith and Lovato’s hit collaboration “I’m Ready” took the top prize on the adds report with 36 more stations in its second week. SAINt JHN‘s “Roses” followed closely in second place with 24 adds here.

There were a number of impacting releases this week, but no one song dominated on the log, likely due in part to a smaller number of stations actually reporting adds. The highest of them, Alec Benjamin‘s “Oh My God”, tied for third place with 20 stations. This will likely become his second charting song at the format, with “Let Me Down Slowly” spending two weeks at #50 last March. More new titles that entered to the top ten are below, including tunes from AJR, Fitz And The Tantrums and The Scotts.

Charting singles from Maren Morris, Powfu and Twenty One Pilots return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (THIRTEEN)
1. SAM SMITH & DEMI LOVATO, “I’m Ready” (Capitol)
2. SAINT JHN, “Roses” (Godd Complexx/HITCO)

3-T. MEGAN THEE STALLION, “Savage” (1501 Certified Ent./300 Ent.)
5. POWFU featuring BEABADOOBEE, “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” (Robots & Humans/Columbia)
6-T. AJR, “Bang!” (S-Curve/Hollywood)
6-T. THE SCOTTS, “The Scotts” (Epic)
8-T. JOJO, “Man” (Warner)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 21, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: first-time collaborators Sam Smith and Demi Lovato get ready for the chart games with a triple-digit add win on impact. Let’s add ’em up:

“READY” FOR FLIGHT: After a solid debut in the top 50 on last Sunday’s published update, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato place first on this Tuesday’s adds report with “I’m Ready” with a giant 100 stations on impact. The song title has previously landed in the top 40 on several occasions for different compositions by Tevin Campbell (#7, 1994), Cherie (#31, 2004) and AJR (#25, 2014).

No other songs impacted at the format during Tuesday’s session, but some newer collaborations from JP Saxe & Julia Michaels and Tyga & Curtis Roach did enter the top five for the first time, both at 15 stations for the week.

Charting singles from Lauv, SAINt JHN and Twenty One Pilots return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (ELEVEN)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 14, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: the high-flying new hit from Twenty One Pilots dominates the adds list without much concern at all. Let’s add ’em up:

NEXT “LEVEL” ADDS: With the Most Added tune at Alternative, Hot AC and Top 40 radio this week, Twenty One Pilots earn a total of 106 first-week stations on the pop airwaves with “Level Of Concern”. It’s their biggest launch ever at this format. After only going as high as #29 with the most successful crossover single from their 2018 album Trench, this release should do much better.

The only other impacting song to break the top ten comes from JoJo, who earns 14 stations for “Man”, which ties for eighth place.

Charting singles from Drake, Dua Lipa and The Weeknd return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. TWENTY ONE PILOTS, “Level Of Concern” (Fueled By Ramen/EMG)
2. DRAKE, “Toosie Slide” (OVO/Republic)
3. POWFU featuring BEABADOOBEE, “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” (Robots & Humans/Columbia)

6. BENEE featuring GUS DAPPERTON, “Supalonely” (Republic)
7. MEGAN THEE STALLION, “Savage” (1501 Certified Ent./300 Ent.)
8-T. DUA LIPA, “Break My Heart” (Warner)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 7, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: It’s plain toosie which song wins at the format, as Drake‘s latest hit starts with a big first week launch. Who else shuffles onto the list? Let’s add ’em up:

SLIDING INTO FIRST: With 131 adds in its impact week, Drake’s “Toosie Slide” is definitely getting some Top 40 programmers on their feet. The song easily captures the top spot on this week’s list and also leads the reports at both Rhythmic and Urban radio.

As radio comes back to life following some slower weeks, largely due to the uncertainty of the current health pandemic, three other impacting songs also slide into or move up within the top ten. Rising into second place with 34 new stations this week, Powfu and Beabadoobee‘s “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” is caffeinated up and charging towards the top 40. Locked in a three-way tie for seventh place with 18 adds on the report, Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Savage” hopes to give her a second top 40 entry on the pop radio chart. The new Martin Garrix and Clinton Kane collaboration also steps into tenth place, as “Drown” scores 17 stations.

Charting songs from Dua Lipa, Lauv and The Weeknd are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. DRAKE, “Toosie Slide” (OVO/Republic)
2. POWFU featuring BEABADOOBEE, “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” (Robots & Humans/Columbia)
3. DUA LIPA, “Break My Heart” (Warner)
4. SURFACES, “Sunday Best” (10K Projects/Capitol)
5. THE WEEKND, “In Your Eyes” (XO/Republic)
6. LAUV, “Modern Loneliness” (AWAL/in2une)
7-T. BENEE featuring GUS DAPPERTON, “Supalonely” (Republic)
7-T. MEGAN THEE STALLION, “Savage” (1501 Certified Ent./300 Ent.)
7-T. SAINT JHN, “Roses” (Godd Complexx/HITCO)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: the sight of a new The Weeknd track gives the format something to look at after some dismal returns last week. Let’s add ’em up:

“EYES” ON NUMBER ONE: It may not be a hot Peter Gabriel remake, but The Weeknd is about to fly up the Top 40 list with “In Your Eyes”, spotted at 60 stations in its first week. The single is featured on his most recent album After Hours, which debuted on Friday and is expected to start at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Ellie Goulding‘s current release is also on the move, as the Blackbear-assisted “Worry About Me” checks in with 33 stations for the week, good for a second place finish. Blackbear ranked at #2 on last week’s Top 40 chart with “Hot Girl Bummer”.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (March 17, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Benee successfully taps into her supapowers during a weak week here at the format; more on that below. Let’s add ’em up:

BENEE THERE, DONE THAT: Unfortunately, it’s fair to say that the fear over the spread of the Coronavirus was the new entry that dominated this week’s adds report. It was inevitable: numbers were down severely and many stations reported no adds.

Of this week’s impacting songs, Benee‘s first release at the format, the Gus Dapperton-assisted “Supalonely”, managed to find a total of 30 stations on impact, making it the Most Added release today. On a normal week, it likely would’ve done much better.

Bazzi‘s latest single also pulled in 19 stations for a third place finish, as “Young & Alive” also struggled given the circumstances.

Charting songs from Demi Lovato, Lauv and Maren Morris are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. BENEE featuring GUS DAPPERTON, “Supalonely” (Republic)
2. DEMI LOVATO, “I Love Me” (Island/Republic)
3. BAZZI, “Young & Alive” (APG/Atlantic)
4-T. LAUV, “Modern Loneliness” (AWAL/in2une)
4-T. SURFACES, “Sunday Best” (10K Projects/Capitol)
6-T. 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, “Old Me” (Interscope)
6-T. BRYCE VINE, “Baby Girl” (Sire/Warner)
6-T. MAREN MORRIS, “The Bones” (Columbia)
9-T. CHELSEA CUTLER, “Sad Tonight” (Republic)
9-T. SAINT JHN, “Roses” (Godd Complexx/HITCO)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (March 15, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. In these very difficult times, please stay safe and don’t jeopardize your health. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

LIPA LEADS AGAIN: Dua Lipa‘s global hit “Don’t Start Now” spends a fourth week at #1 on the Top 40 chart. With the growing concerns over the Coronavirus in the U.S. and globally, it’s unclear how much radio and the labels are in contact at this time. With a number of new shutdowns and restrictions likely to come this week, there are other things weighing on our minds at the moment. It isn’t clear how radio, as a whole, will be affected or interrupted. That being said, Lipa could earn a fifth week at the top or titles from Arizona Zervas or Blackbear could push for the top spot by next Sunday. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of action in the lower rungs:

Two acts score their first top 40 song on the Top 40 chart this week: Ali Gatie with “What If I Told You That I Love You”, up 42-37, and the duo Surfaces with “Sunday Best”, blasting from 49-38. Gatie’s song also reaches the top 40 on this week’s Hot AC chart, as the Surfaces track breaks the top 50. The recent #2 single on the Hot 100 for Future and Drake also lands in the region, as “Life Is Good” moves from 46-39 on the Top 40 chart. Though both performers have done significantly better at Rhythmic and Urban radio, this marks their fifth and 28th top 40 hits at this format, respectively. Finally, despite a decrease in spins, DaBaby‘s “Bop” is up 41-40 this week, giving the rapper his second top 40 entry to date. He’s also featured on the Camila Cabello song “My Oh My”, which rises from 11-9.

The top 50 is also full of new and emerging acts on the new chart update. The debuts are led by the duo Static & Ben El, who enter the survey at #46 with the Pitbull-assisted “Further Up (Na, Na, Na, Na, Na)”. It’s already gone to #1 in their native Israel. Landing at #47, SAINt JHN‘s “Roses” flowers on the chart, which compliments its entry into the top five on the Dance radio list. A remix by Kazakh producer Imanbek has secured top ten peaks in parts of Europe. Breland‘s viral hit “My Truck” parks at #48 this week. The Sofia Carson and R3HAB collaboration “I Luv U” comes in at #49, giving Carson her first single to enter the top 50 in nearly four years and R3HAB his first ever. Lastly, Bryce Vine debuts at #50 with “Baby Girl”. We’ll see if it becomes his fourth top 40 hit here in the coming weeks.
