It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are two singles impacting this week at the Top 40 format:
CONAN GRAY, “Overdrive” (Republic)
Album: TBA (2021)
Past T40 History: Gray reached the top 30 in the fall with his ballad “Heather”. He’s now looking for his third top 40 song to date.
G-EAZY featuring CHRIS BROWN & MARK MORRISON, “Provide” (RCA)
Album: TBA (2021)
Past T40 History: This track samples Morrison’s “Return Of The Mack”, his signature song that reached #4 at this format in 1997.
Next week: Fat Joe is ready to light up the format with some sunshine, as he aims for his first top 40 hit since 2005.

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ready for our rocket ride to planet pop? It’s time for all you audio astronauts to discover what’s popping at the format this week:
ALIVE AT “35”: Pop superstar Ariana Grande remains at the top for a second week with “34+35”, the second consecutive chart-topper from her recent studio album Positions. However, Grande’s hit is likely to be unseated next week, as Olivia Rodrigo cruises down the highway of hits from 5-2 with “Driver’s License”.
New to the top 40, Cardi B moves from 44-39 with “Up”, while SZA rises a spot from 41-40 with “Good Days”. It’s the ninth top 40 song here for the former and the sixth for the latter. (Had Mediabase credited Cardi B for her featured slot on Ed Sheeran‘s “South Of The Border” that she shared with Camila Cabello, it would be her tenth.)
Format newcomers Masked Wolf and Jessia lead three new entries in the top 50 with their current viral tracks “Astronaut In The Ocean” and “I’m Not Pretty”, which debut at #43 and #44, respectively. Further down, G-Eazy lands at #48 with his Chris Brown and Mark Morrison-assisted “Provide”, which samples the latter’s 1997 hit “Return Of The Mack”.
