RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, October 28-November 3, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BLAKE ROSE – “Hotel Room” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Known for a few dance and electronic collaborations, Australia’s Rose and his edgy pop release are certainly winners for me.

_____

FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “You Belong” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance
Notes: The New York City duo is certainly flying with the latest single from their forthcoming set Rerunning, a dreamy pop delight.

_____

LIV MIRALDI – “Chromatic” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance
Notes: In June, Miraldi made her debut on the Rewind with a cool cover of the 2002 hit “Dilemma”. This tune is another great bop.

_____

PRETTY SISTER – “My Jam” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: After burning onto the Rewind in July with “New Fire”, the talented performer throws it back with a 90’s R&B-inspired jam.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALLIE X – “Can’t Stop Now”
CHELSEA CUTLER – “AF1s”
DES ROCS – “The Past Has Passed Away”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, July 22 – 28, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FINNEAS – “Hollywood Forever” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Five previous appearances
Notes: This performer returns with another classic ballad that wouldn’t sound out of place on your local AM pop station circa 1975.

_____

KYAN PALMER – “Make It Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Known for his 2017 streaming hit “Burn Mona Lisa”, Palmer treats us to a slick R&B and pop release with a radio-ready feel.

_____

PRETTY SISTER featuring MARCLO – “New Fire” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances / First appearance
Notes: For the hottest new jack swing smash on the schedule this week, look no further than this collaboration. It’s a fantastic tune.

_____

SPAZZ CARDIGAN – “Over” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Three previous appearances
Notes: This Nashville-based artist gets his fourth Rewind feature of 2018 with another tight production that should perform nicely.

_____

JAMES DROLL – “Snake Eyes”
NUUXS – “Sweet Sunshine”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, May 27 – June 2, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independe2nt songs of the week…

_____

EMILY WARREN – “Paranoid” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Something To Hold On To” (July 2017)
Notes: We try not to let the pop paranoia sink in, though we suspect this song is a winner. Warren’s solo releases continue to shine!

_____

LAUV – “Enemies” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Ten previous appearances, most recently “Bracelet” (May 2018)
Notes: You know, we haven’t seen Lauv on the Rewind in… oh, a week! With his playlist era completed, this new tune is a highlight.

_____

LIV MIRALDI – “Dilemma” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Miraldi’s great remake of this massive single from 2002 takes a modern-day R&B classic and turns it into a sugary pop rush.

_____

PRETTY SISTER featuring WHITE GOLD – “Tension” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous appearances, most recently “Thirsty” (November 2016) / First appearance
Notes: No sibling rivalry here! Zak Waters’s first cut in over a year is, by far, the filthiest and funkiest jam in the bunch this Sunday.

_____

R3HAB x QUINN LEWIS – “How You’ve Been” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance / Four previous appearances, most recently “Weekend Luv” (April 2018)
Notes: When PGTC favorite Lewis teams up with one of the hottest DJs/producers around, you know it’s going to be one giant bop!

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALLIE X – “Focus”
BETTY WHO – “All Things”
CHELSEA CUTLER – “Someone Else”
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “All The Feels”
NICHOLAS ROBERTS – “Growing Up”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 11/13 – 11/19

Record Rewind - November 20, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BROADHURST – “Bones” (iTunes) (Spotify)
From Sneaky Sound System to sound systems all over the globe, Nick Broadhurst has just about four million Spotify streams for a super single of his, “Little Lover”, and all of the remixes that accompanied it. His latest song, a strong pop ballad, will intrigue you.

_____

COURTSHIP. – “Love For Everyone” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This is the first time on the Rewind for the duo of Eli Hirsch and Micah Gordon, and I think it’s a safe bet that this track will find its way into a commercial real soon. It’s just too catchy to be ignored, and the timely message makes it an even more important single.

_____

KYKO – “Nature” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The last time London’s Scott Verrill was on the Rewind was in September; that’s when his track “Horizon” debuted. That single is a few days away from reaching 600,000 streams on Spotify. Pretty impressive! His tropical pop meets indie rock sound is a winner.

_____

PATTERNIST – “Give It Up” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Musician Gabe Mouer has been making sweet sounds under this name for a couple of years now, so I guess I’m overdue for putting one of his songs on the Rewind. Luckily, this catchy indie pop bop is definitely on repeat for me. Check out his new EP next month.

_____

PRETTY SISTER – “Thirsty” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Zak Waters continues to impress with this fun and funky number that’ll leave you parched for more pop perfection. Of course, I’ve been following the project for over a year now, and with excellent tracks like “Come To LA” and “West Coast”, he’s doing real well.

_____

THØSS – “Submarine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s great to have this performer return with a quality single. In June, the title track from his Benchwarmer EP was included on the Rewind, but the whole set is a pretty solid listen. In an ocean full of indie rock acts, this submarine is certainly making some waves.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
ALLMAN BROWN featuring LIZ LAWRENCE – “Palms” (SoundCloud)
ANDIE CASE – “So Low” (SoundCloud)
BRAYTON BOWMAN – “Puff Puff Pass” (SoundCloud)
GRIFF’S ROOM BAND – “Part Of Me” (SoundCloud)
LIZZY LAND – “Sweet Melodies” (SoundCloud)
NATIVES – “Passion” (SoundCloud)
RKCB – “Enough” (SoundCloud)
VALLEY – “Drive” (SoundCloud)

Everybody had to get their new singles delivered and uploaded before Thanksgiving… well, at least there’s plenty to listen to now!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/5 – 6/11

Record Rewind - June 12, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. We’ll be testing it out this month, so if you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

_____

CARDBOARD KIDS – “Struggle” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Sometimes, the struggle is real. In fact, this “Struggle” is real… real solid, that is. Nashville’s four Kids are back and going around the pop playground we call the blogosphere, scoring in the top 20 on the Hype Machine Twitter chart. Their Mint EP is out soon.

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Sweetness”
Golden Coast’s golden boy returns with a treat of a track; call it smooth ear candy infused with a dark core. White’s single jumped to #1 on Hype Machine’s Twitter list during the week, the top 30 overall, and remains popular on several sites. Have a cavity yet?

_____

EZA – “Off The Record” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Nashville’s Ellery Bonham is no stranger to hot pop records, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I’m on the record with my approval for her latest jam. It’s great. “Off” saw a nice boost from a Billboard premiere and an add on Spotify’s U.S. New Music Friday list.

_____

HALFNOISE – “Know The Feeling” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Many people are obsessed with “Can’t Stop The Feeling” at the moment, myself included, but there are a few other “feeling” cuts out there waiting to be heard. This Zac Farro project has one of them, a slice of electro-pop that’ll satisfy the SoundCloud crowd.

_____

HANNAH JANE LEWIS – “Bend Or Break” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Lewis’s potent pop sound delivered her great results with her previous single, “Why Start A War”, and thus, the war for blog love continues with a likable follow-up single. If you haven’t heard much about the London newcomer so far, you definitely will soon.

_____

JAKIL – “Tongue Tied” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This five-man band is a new one on my radar, but we’ll be keeping an eye on them. They’re based in London and Edinburgh. They seem to be wrapping their tongues around the popular and slick 80’s sound that’s made a comeback in the past few years. I like it.

_____

JUNIOR EMPIRE – “West Coast” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Currently in the top ten on Hype Machine is this cool track, a new single from the group that went through a recent name change. They were previously known as The Mispers. Now, the act delivers a nice summery song, a mixture of pop and electric goodness.

_____

LAUV featuring TRAVIS MILLS – “Question” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Lauv was featured on our 16 For ’16 list late last year, when he gained massive support for his Lost In The Light EP and songs like “Reforget” and “The Other”. He’s a lion by name, and his production certainly roars. Oh, and the answer is to keep listening to it.

_____

PRETTY SISTER – “West Coast” (iTunes) (Spotify)
We have dueling “West Coast” records in the lineup this week, and I had to feature them both. I may as well take a vacation to the western part of the country soon. This Zak Waters project has impressed with several viral hits, and this soulful song is excellent.

_____

ZAYDE WØLF – “Will I Fall” (iTunes) (Spotify)
How will this Wolf survive? A steady diet of syncs and reactive songs, of course. The Rare Breed EP is a good listen, featuring the anthemic track “Built For This Time”, but “Will I Fall” is another solid single from the Nashville musician. Get onto the dark side.
