ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (May 5, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: Marshmello and Halsey‘s new collaboration dominates the adds report with some kindness for the pop radio panel. Let’s add ’em up:

THAT “KIND” OF A WEEK: With an impressive 130 stations on impact, “Be Kind” by Marshmello and Halsey earns the week’s Most Added title at the Top 40 format. The song also scored a top ten rank on yesterday’s report at the Hot AC format. After a #40 debut on last Sunday’s published chart, “Kind” should make a nice move up the survey by the weekend and will likely appear in the top ten again on next Tuesday’s log.

A handful of newer releases also entered the top ten this week, but with add totals that weren’t nearly as substantial. The highest of those, Cyn‘s “Drinks”, managed a fourth place finish with 19 stations on impact. It’s her second track to impact here: “Holy Roller” was the first about a year ago, though it didn’t crack the top 50.

Charting singles from Megan Thee Stallion and Twenty One Pilots return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap, including data on the new release from Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (ELEVEN)
1. MARSHMELLO & HALSEY, “Be Kind” (Astralwerks/Capitol)
2-T. MEGAN THEE STALLION, “Savage” (1501 Certified Ent./300 Ent.)
2-T. THE SCOTTS, “The Scotts” (Epic)
4. CYN, “Drinks” (Unsub/Caroline)
5. SAINT JHN, “Roses” (Godd Complexx/HITCO)
6. SAM SMITH & DEMI LOVATO, “I’m Ready” (Capitol)
7. TWENTY ONE PILOTS, “Level Of Concern” (Fueled By Ramen/EMG)
8-T. ASHE, “Moral Of The Story” (Mom+Pop/Further.)
8-T. POWFU featuring BEABADOOBEE, “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” (Robots & Humans/Columbia)
10-T. AJR, “Bang!” (S-Curve/Hollywood)
10-T. JAYMES YOUNG, “Happiest Year” (Please Rewind/Atlantic/EMG)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 28, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: in a very divided week at this format, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato are more than ready for a second week atop the adds report. Who else qualified for a medal? Let’s add ’em up:

“READY” FOR MORE: For the second week in a row, Smith and Lovato’s hit collaboration “I’m Ready” took the top prize on the adds report with 36 more stations in its second week. SAINt JHN‘s “Roses” followed closely in second place with 24 adds here.

There were a number of impacting releases this week, but no one song dominated on the log, likely due in part to a smaller number of stations actually reporting adds. The highest of them, Alec Benjamin‘s “Oh My God”, tied for third place with 20 stations. This will likely become his second charting song at the format, with “Let Me Down Slowly” spending two weeks at #50 last March. More new titles that entered to the top ten are below, including tunes from AJR, Fitz And The Tantrums and The Scotts.

Charting singles from Maren Morris, Powfu and Twenty One Pilots return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 21, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: first-time collaborators Sam Smith and Demi Lovato get ready for the chart games with a triple-digit add win on impact. Let’s add ’em up:

“READY” FOR FLIGHT: After a solid debut in the top 50 on last Sunday’s published update, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato place first on this Tuesday’s adds report with “I’m Ready” with a giant 100 stations on impact. The song title has previously landed in the top 40 on several occasions for different compositions by Tevin Campbell (#7, 1994), Cherie (#31, 2004) and AJR (#25, 2014).

No other songs impacted at the format during Tuesday’s session, but some newer collaborations from JP Saxe & Julia Michaels and Tyga & Curtis Roach did enter the top five for the first time, both at 15 stations for the week.

Charting singles from Lauv, SAINt JHN and Twenty One Pilots return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN (ELEVEN)

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 14, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: the high-flying new hit from Twenty One Pilots dominates the adds list without much concern at all. Let’s add ’em up:

NEXT “LEVEL” ADDS: With the Most Added tune at Alternative, Hot AC and Top 40 radio this week, Twenty One Pilots earn a total of 106 first-week stations on the pop airwaves with “Level Of Concern”. It’s their biggest launch ever at this format. After only going as high as #29 with the most successful crossover single from their 2018 album Trench, this release should do much better.

The only other impacting song to break the top ten comes from JoJo, who earns 14 stations for “Man”, which ties for eighth place.

Charting singles from Drake, Dua Lipa and The Weeknd return to the top ten on the adds report this week.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. TWENTY ONE PILOTS, “Level Of Concern” (Fueled By Ramen/EMG)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 12, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Though Passover and Easter might feel a bit different this year, there’s still plenty of new music to go around. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

LONELY WEEKND: With his third #1 hit to date at the Top 40 format, The Weeknd moves from 2-1 with “Blinding Lights”. It’s the first chart-topper from his recent album After Hours, which has held atop the Billboard 200 list for three weeks now. The smash is also lighting up the Rhythmic and Hot AC radio charts, where it climbs to #5 and #6 this week, respectively.

Flying in at #36 with their seventh top 40 hit, Twenty One Pilots take to the air with “Level Of Concern”, a one-off single that was released several days ago. Powfu and Beabadoobee push their viral track “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” up from 47-37 this week, marking the first top 40 entry for both performers. Both “Level” and “Coffee” are already performing well at Alternative radio, with the former launching at #20 and the latter climbing to #17 on the latest chart. Finally, Ellie Goulding and Blackbear rise up from 45-40 with “Worry About Me”. It’s the 14th top 40 song at the format for Goulding and the third for Blackbear.

With a number of reemerging songs in the top 50 thanks to the vacuum effect from a larger purge, just two titles are completely new to region this week. Debuting at #44, PartyNextDoor and Rihanna‘s collaboration “Believe It” blasts onto the Top 40 survey. It’s already well into the top 40 on both the Rhythmic and Urban lists. Another collaboration starts at #49: the current top 20 hit on the Hot AC chart for JP Saxe and Julia Michaels titled “If The World Was Ending”. The track is already a larger radio and sales hit in Saxe’s native Canada and has reached the top 40 nationally in some European territories.

ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (April 7, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: It’s plain toosie which song wins at the format, as Drake‘s latest hit starts with a big first week launch. Who else shuffles onto the list? Let’s add ’em up:

SLIDING INTO FIRST: With 131 adds in its impact week, Drake’s “Toosie Slide” is definitely getting some Top 40 programmers on their feet. The song easily captures the top spot on this week’s list and also leads the reports at both Rhythmic and Urban radio.

As radio comes back to life following some slower weeks, largely due to the uncertainty of the current health pandemic, three other impacting songs also slide into or move up within the top ten. Rising into second place with 34 new stations this week, Powfu and Beabadoobee‘s “Coffee For Your Head (Death Bed)” is caffeinated up and charging towards the top 40. Locked in a three-way tie for seventh place with 18 adds on the report, Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Savage” hopes to give her a second top 40 entry on the pop radio chart. The new Martin Garrix and Clinton Kane collaboration also steps into tenth place, as “Drown” scores 17 stations.

Charting songs from Dua Lipa, Lauv and The Weeknd are among those returning to the top ten on this week’s report.

We’ll see you next Tuesday for another adds recap. Stay safe out there.
