NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of August 25, 2017

Goin’ four the top.

I know what you’re saying — there are people not named Taylor Swift releasing music this week? Shocking, right? Here are the major releases you need to know for this Friday:

FIFTH HARMONY – Fifth Harmony (iTunes)
The current quartet, formerly quintet, is “Down” on their luck this era, as the lead single from their latest studio album stumbled on the charts. However, even without Camila Cabello in the mix, their fanbase remains strong and should lead them to a fairly solid debut. No new single from the set has been serviced to radio, though that could change following their VMA performance.

OLD DOMINION – Happy Endings (iTunes)
They’re at #1 on Country radio at the moment with “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart”, but they will be breaking into the charts in a nice position. The Nashville quintet, whose last album gave them three #1 songs on that airplay chart, is looking to reach the top ten on the Billboard 200 (and #1 on the format-specific list) for the first time.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE – Villians (iTunes)
In 2013, this group’s last album became their first #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Now, with “The Way You Used To Do” having a good run in the top 15 on the Alternative survey, they could be headed for a second chart-topper on the Billboard 200. Watch out for it.

THE WAR ON DRUGS – A Deeper Understanding (iTunes)
The Philadelphia group, in its major label debut, is already garnering some great reviews for its latest set. Their previous album’s top 30 peak should easily be eclipsed by wherever this one lands, thanks to a top ten Triple A hit in “Holding On”.

More albums out this week: Action Bronson‘s Blue Chips 7000 (iTunes), Andrew Belle‘s Dive Deep (iTunes), A$AP Mob‘s Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy (iTunes), Elliot Root‘s Conjure (iTunes), Picture This‘s Picture This (iTunes), PVRIS‘s All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell (iTunes), The Cadillac Three‘s Legacy (iTunes)

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of November 6, 2015

Keepin' it country.

Keepin’ it country.

This week’s New Music Friday is a real twang thang after this year’s ACM Awards aired on Wednesday night, which gave boosts in sales to big winners like Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town. Here’s a look at this week’s top new albums and singles:

  • ERIC CHURCH — Mr. Misunderstood (iTunes)
    • The latest surprise album in the industry is this new release from Church, which was first distributed to members of his fan club beginning on Tuesday. The title cut from it was just serviced to Country stations, which replaces “Roller Coaster Ride” from his previous album, a song that began to gain traction off unsolicited airplay in several markets. About a day of its purchases will count towards the previous week’s list, but this will still have a good uptick in sales.
  • TIM MCGRAW — Damn Country Music (iTunes)
    • McGraw’s had a huge career in Country Music since his first top 40 single in 1994, and his 14th studio album has yet another top ten song still rising at the format, “Top Of The World”. Though his opening week sales have been on the decline for over a decade, McGraw’s latest set should find a place in the top five, which may extend his streak to 13 in a row.
  • OLD DOMINION — Meat And Candy (iTunes)
    • They have the current #1 song (and perhaps a multi-week one) on Country radio with “Break Up With Him”, but the band’s relationship at radio and retail is just beginning. With an already successful EP under their belts, look for the album to debut nicely next week. No word yet on what the act’s next single will be.
  • ELLIE GOULDING — Delirium (iTunes)
    • For releases outside the Country world this week, Goulding’s latest studio album is set for a solid entry next week. It includes “On My Mind”, an international hit that’s still climbing up the charts here in the States. Halcyon debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 a little over three years ago.
  • LITTLE MIX — Get Weird (iTunes)
    • Their audience may not be as big in the U.S. as it certainly is across the pond, but the four women from the U.K. will be looking for their third top ten album here, even though single “Black Magic” hit a brick wall in the 20’s on the pop radio list. We’ll see what happens.
  • More albums out this week: Billy Gibbons and the BFG‘s Perfectamundo (iTunes), Bob Dylan‘s The Best Of The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 (iTunes), CeeLo Green‘s Heart Blanche (iTunes), Grimes‘s Art Angels (iTunes), Hunter Hayes‘s 21 Project (iTunes), Josh Abbott Band‘s Front Row Seat (iTunes), Marc Broussard‘s Magnolias & Mistletoe (iTunes), Natalie Merchant‘s Paradise Is There: The New Tigerlily Recording (iTunes), Sam Smith‘s In The Lonely Hour (Drowning Shadows Edition) (iTunes), Sara Bareilles‘s What’s Inside: Songs From Waitress (iTunes), Seal‘s 7 (iTunes)
  • More EPs out this week: Cole Swindell‘s Down Home Sessions II (iTunes), Day Wave‘s Come Here Now (iTunes), Hudson Thames‘s Lip Tricks (iTunes), Ofelia K‘s Plastic Flower (iTunes), REMMI‘s New America (iTunes), The Japanese House‘s Clean (iTunes)

New digital-only singles that you can buy this week include:

  • “Adventure Of A Lifetime”, Coldplay (iTunes)
  • “Been A Son”, Kurt Cobain (iTunes)
  • “Better”, BANKS (iTunes)
  • “Bird Set Free”, Sia (iTunes)
  • “Can’t Get Enough Of Myself”, Santigold featuring B.C. (iTunes)
  • “Do You Wanna Get High?”, Weezer (iTunes)
  • “I’ll Show You”, Justin Bieber (iTunes)
  • “It All Started With A Beer”, Frankie Ballard (iTunes)
  • “Kaleidoscope” and “Oasis”, A Great Big World (iTunes)
  • “Last Minute Late Night”, Kane Brown (iTunes)
  • “Makeshift Love”, Good Charlotte (iTunes)
  • “Naked (Live)”, Goo Goo Dolls (iTunes)
  • “Sober Saturday Night”, Chris Young featuring Vince Gill (iTunes)
  • “Summer Was A Day”, Pete Yorn (iTunes)
  • “Switch Up”, R. Kelly featuring Lil’ Wayne and Jeremih (iTunes)

Next Friday, our preview will include a hot Q4 album battle between Justin Bieber and One Direction. See you then!
