RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Twenty

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…
_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
PRETTY SISTER – “Kingdom In The Valley” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

It’s been a minute since Zak Waters’s project last appeared on the Rewind, though he managed to put three singles in the recap last year, including “New Fire” and “Tension”. This bouncy funk release has a fun early 80’s synth-pop influence that’s pretty awesome.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
XYLØ – “Ride Or Die” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Meanwhile, Paige Duddy’s solo records as XYLØ have been included here a handful of times since going independent, much of that material coming from her EP called Pretty Sad from March. This ride might be a mellower one, but we’re up for the passenger seat.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, April 8-14, 2018

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FRILLS – “She’s Got Love” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Two previous features, including “My Love” (April 2017)
Notes: The duo of Simon Oscroft and Dan Gibson have been steadily receiving their streaming love for roughly a year now, with the aforementioned “My Love” still in the lead across the major services. Still, their latest “Love” is very much worth the love and plays.

_____

MR GABRIEL – “Tambourine” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First time featured
Notes: This Nashville-based musician is probably best known for his time with the indie rock band Kopecky, who had some success at the Triple A format several years ago. If you’re a fan of psychedelic pop with a sync-ready hook, you’re sure to jam to this release!

EMMA MCGRATH – “Lifeline”
JACKSON PENN – “Babylon”
