RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Fifteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
FLY BY MIDNIGHT – “Waiting Tables” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Eighth appearance

There’s definitely two seats at the table for these guys; I’ve been feasting on their releases for some time now, so the waiting period wasn’t long for this winner to arrive. The mellow retro-tinged pop single combines enough modern elements for a successful result.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
HANNAH JANE LEWIS – “Not Yours Never Was” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance

Following the release of the Rewind-approved cuts “Do It Without You” and “Last Night Every Night”, Lewis’s latest song is an easy add to the list, which is featured on her new self-titled EP. With so many great pop records in her catalog, she’ll continue to do well.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
OVERSTREET – “All Nighter” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

During the summer of 2017, Overstreet climbed as high as #14 on my personal chart with “Hold On”, though I enjoyed the majority of his songs during a stint with Island Records. Leaning towards a darker rock feel, this one could find support at Alternative radio.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ALEC BAILEY – “Roseanne”
EBEN – “You The One”
HARRISON WHEELER featuring MARSHALL MAGIC – “Up All Night”
HUX – “Wreck”
JOHAN – “Fifteen”
MISS BENNY – “Every Boy”
MYZICA – “Can’t Come Back”
VIOLET DAYS – “Afterparty”

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/25 – 7/1/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

FJØRA – “Wild Animals” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This female newcomer was first spotted late last year on our listen through the annual Nashville Indie Spotlight sampler, which has a lot of talent for one set. “Wild” glides its way through the Top 40 landscape, delivering a fun and familiar sound in the blog world.

_____

MYZICA – “Higher Places” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This Nashville duo (Isaaca Byrd and Micah Tawlks) was last noted on the Rewind in August of last year with an Ezra Carey-assisted cover of “Drive”, one of my favorite hits from The Cars. “Higher” brings out the enchanting nostalgia of mid-to-late 90’s alternative.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Staring” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Summer sounds so good, now that our favorite Boston college band is back with another psychedelic pop gem for your current pool party playlist. The beachy feel of this guitar-driven track is effortless, and consistent with their catalog thus far. Jump in and enjoy!

_____

WANDERER – “We Were So Young” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Wandering back onto the Rewind with his first original single since November of last year is Tempe-based singer/songwriter Adam Simons, who gets us reminiscing about the simplicity of summer days from years ago. It is especially good for the end of the season.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
BLAIR – “Oceans” (SoundCloud)
CLAIRITY – “Pyrokinesis” (SoundCloud)
GREYSON CHANCE – “Seasons” (SoundCloud)
LOSTBOYCROW – “Spin The Globe” (SoundCloud)
WAVE & ROME – “Be My Girl” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/21 – 8/27

Record Rewind - August 28, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CAPE CUB – “All I Need” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s amazing to have a new song from Chad Male, who released his Closer EP back in the spring. That set yielded great singles like “Keep Me In Mind” and “Swim”. His return marks a fuller sound and more of a new wave sensibility, one that fits with the singer.

_____

FLETCHER – “Wasted Youth” (iTunes) (Spotify)
She’s a queen of streams, and she’s back where she belongs: on your favorite Spotify New Music Friday playlist. Leaping towards a total of 42 million plays at the service, her latest single is perhaps her best since “War Paint”. It’s certainly not a wasted release.

_____

GOLDEN COAST – “Recess” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Do you ever wish you were back on the swings or the monkey bars, reliving the joy of being young again? The Los Angeles duo of Denny White and Steven Mudd want to take you out of the darkness and onto this pop playground. I hope this slides onto radio.

_____

PHANGS – “Cul De Sac” (iTunes) (Spotify)
From leading the Cardboard Kids to debuting his new solo project, Jake Germany has plenty of sounds to make the rounds. That consistent output provides us with another cool single. His song title might be a dead-end street, but his career is one open road.

_____

ROYAL TONGUES – “Overdose” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The boys from Buffalo, Aaron Bonus and Justin Gammella, are back with their first new release in nearly four months. In May, it was “Oblivion”. Now, sticking with the “O” titles, their prescription for energetic production and indie pop goodness will heal all.

_____

THE NEW COAST – “Slow Down” (iTunes)
We last heard from Nick Blyth and Chris Cheater earlier this year, when “Lost In Your Love” had its debut on blogs and playlists. Their Paraga Beach EP comes out November 4, but given these two great tracks, the other half of the EP should be just as solid.

_____

YOUNG SUMMER – “Fallout” (iTunes) (Spotify)
At this point, you know I’m excited about the upcoming EP from Bobbie Allen. Each cut released so far is different musically, and I can’t wait to hear the full thing. She released this lush ballad earlier this week, soothing with its dulcet tones and pretty melody.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
KIAH VICTORIA – “Hollow” (SoundCloud)
MYZICA featuring EZRA CAREY – “Drive” (SoundCloud)
TRUITT – “Fallback” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/31 – 8/6

Record Rewind - August 7, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

CAPPA featuring JON SANTANA – “Wannabe” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Spice up your life with this cool cover by Carla Cappa and producer Jon Santana, who was also credited as a featured act last year on her update of “No Scrubs”. Who will be next: Blaque? Dream? 702? Regardless of what she chooses, I’m definitely here for it.

_____

LYON HART – “Falling For You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Hart’s been on my radar since last year, when he released an EP called With Or Without Me. After focusing on featured slots, this New York City singer has a new release. Combining a smooth R&B-flavored melody with an impassioned vocal, it’s a great effort.

_____

MYZICA – “We Belong Together” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The talented Nashville duo of Isaaca Byrd and Micah Tawlks has another delicious pop sound to go around. Before you ask, no, it isn’t a Mariah Carey cover. This is, however, an electric ride into the era of Kim Wilde and The Bangles. So, jam out and have fun.

_____

PETER WISE – “Denial”
It’s wise to listen to Peter… at least, that’s what I believe. I enjoyed his “Sweet Solitude” single in June, and while that release saw him digging into some silky soul, this song is a pop tune with some solid tempo. Look out for more from the versatile singer soon.

_____

RALPH – “Something More” (iTunes) (Spotify)
We all asked for “something more” from this Toronto singer after “Cold To The Touch” did so well earlier this summer, and it’s a great feeling to know she delivered with her latest track. Singer Raffa Weyman has another synthpop jam with a meaningful lyric.

_____

SATCHMODE – “State Of Mind” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles’s dynamic dream pop duo just got a little more dreamier with their new single. They’ve had millions of streams and a plethora of blogs behind them, so their “state of” career is also looking quite whimsical. Love Hz is due to be released in October.

_____

SLOW SUGAR – “Hypnotic Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I’ve been looking for a single from these two (Alex Utay and Danielle Harris) for some time now. They put on a good live show. If they play again in New York City, you should check them out. “Hypnotic” is an enticing and potent pop ballad with nice potential.

_____

VOKES – “Wrong” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you haven’t listened to this California musician’s EP titled Fractalism, you’re missing out on a great set of songs. Of course, I’m a little biased, as I’ve supported the project since the beginning of the year. “Wrong” is so right, with its soothing melody shining.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
ADAM JENSEN – “Drugs” (SoundCloud)
DELAMARE – “Black And White Space” (SoundCloud)
PAPER LIONS – “My Number” (SoundCloud)
SCAVENGER HUNT – “River Runs Dry” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/3 – 7/9

Record Rewind - July 10, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the world of SoundCloud and my Indie Summer Mix on Spotify, these records stuck out as my favorite independent tunes of the week…

_____

BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT featuring ELTON JOHN – “Symmetry Of Two Hearts” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Next week marks the release of Rod Thomas’s latest album, Choreography, and based on the instant grat tracks so far, I think I’ll be enjoying it thoroughly. If you need a dose of 1987 in 2016, his intelligent and unabashedly bold pop melodies are a great treat.

_____

ELLE WATSON – “Phantom” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Watson last appeared on the blogs a couple of months ago; that’s when “Losing Any Sleep” debuted, a track that’s now achieved a massive 550,000+ streams on Spotify. Tapping into an ethereal R&B-flavored world, the haunting results are worth a few plays.

_____

GIRL FRIEND – “Hello Stranger”
This Manchester band has been a regular on my SoundCloud feed for about a year now, crafting great singles like “Tragic On The Dancefloor” and “Waste My Time”. Their latest gem, mixed by Louis La Roche, should be no stranger to your new music playlist.

_____

GRAHAM COLTON with EMILY HEARN – “Where You Wanna Go” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Colton’s had two big top five singles on my personal chart, including the #1 hit “Best Days” in 2008, so I’m always happy to find a new song from him. Collaborating with Hearn, their catchy folk/pop record is great for any road trip playlist this summer or fall.

_____

MYZICA – “Love & Desire” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The Nashville duo, consisting of Isaaca Byrd and Micah Tawlks, strikes again with a delicious bright pop record. It’s the first taste of their forthcoming album, due in September. Driven by synth and drums, “Love” effortlessly captures a youthful 80’s memory.

_____

SAM TINNESZ featuring MAGIC MANSIONS – “Doesn’t Get Better Than This”
Tinnesz has been busy with two different projects in the last year, one being WΛVE & ROME and the other under his given name. In either case, many of his songs have been on TV recently, so expect this potent punch of rock realness in your living room soon.

_____

VINYL THIEF – “Letting Me Off Easy” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The Touch EP from this Nashville quartet was finally released on Friday. They’ve served up some hot cuts from the set in the last few weeks, and the last track from it, a dark fusion of electronic and indie rock, is among my favorites. It easily gets my approval.

_____

X&Y – “Footprints”
Last summer, I found this U.K.-based trio’s song “Rocket Science” on SoundCloud, but this may be their best single to date. Both their writing and production have unleashed a fresh energy and bigger sound for this track. Dig into it (your ears, not your toes.)

_____

For more new music, we suggest…
ALLIE X – “All The Rage” (iTunes) (Spotify)
APOLLO LTD – “Goodbye” (SoundCloud)
WILD – “Where Love Lives” (iTunes) (Spotify)
