Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Some say that talk is cheap, and while that’s not so far-fetched, it does change when it’s on top of the pop chart. Let’s see what’s popping at the Top 40 format this Sunday:
WE NEED TO TALK: Earning his third #1 smash at the format since September of last year, Khalid leaps from 3-1 on this week’s Top 40 chart with “Talk”. Of those three hits, it’s the first by just himself to reach the summit; the other singles were with Normani and a three-way collaboration with Benny Blanco and Halsey. Accordingly, “Talk” is also the new #1 song on the Rhythmic chart, while it continues to gain in the top ten and top 20 on the Urban and Hot AC formats, respectively. Expect it to hang onto the top for a second week here on the pop survey, as Khalid’s main competition is still too far away to knock him out.
Further down the survey, the action isn’t nearly as exciting, but there are still a few notable titles to mention. Moving from 43-37, we have the 11th top 40 single at the format for Miley Cyrus with “Mother’s Daughter”. It’s the sole entry in the region this week. After debuting on Friday, the second chart collaboration by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello starts at #41. “Señorita” is likely to be this week’s Most Added record at the format on Tuesday evening and should see a nice rise through the top 40 by the weekend. Only one other song slides into the top 50 this week, a collaboration that’s already been to #1 on the Rhythmic chart: “Pure Water” checks in at #50 for Mustard and Migos. It also recently appeared in the top ten on the Urban chart. Should this song make the top 40 on the pop airwaves, it’ll be the first with the word “pure” in its title to enter the region in 20 years.
