ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (September 1, 2020)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: “Ice Cream” is served! However, even that tasty treat from BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez couldn’t get past Calvin Harris and The Weeknd‘s big collaboration. Let’s add ’em up:

BEFORE THE LONG WEEKND: With the Most Added single at both the Rhythmic and Top 40 formats this week, “Over Now” by Harris and The Weeknd is off to a nice start at radio. It picks up 50 and 109 stations, respectively. At the latter format, the song started at #47 on last weekend’s published chart with just two days of airplay. It’s aiming for the top 40 by this coming weekend.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK and Gomez still put up a strong 97 adds in their first week with “Ice Cream”, which will chart somewhere on Sunday’s update after just missing the top 50 last week. This is the K-pop group’s biggest add week to date at any U.S. format.

Charting singles from 24KGoldn, Ava Max and Surf Mesa returned to the top ten on the adds report this week.

No songs are currently listed as impacting next week. Have a good long weekend!

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. CALVIN HARRIS x THE WEEKND, “Over Now” (Columbia)
2. BLACKPINK & SELENA GOMEZ, “Ice Cream” (Interscope)
3. 24KGOLDN featuring IANN DIOR, “Mood” (RECORDS-Columbia)
4. SURF MESA featuring EMILEE, “ILY (I Love You Baby)” (Astralwerks/Capitol)
5. CONAN GRAY, “Heather” (Republic)
6. AVA MAX, “Kings & Queens” (Atlantic)
7. JOEL CORRY featuring MNEK, “Head & Heart” (Big Beat/EMG)
8. MILEY CYRUS, “Midnight Sky” (RCA)
9. ZARA LARSSON, “Wow” (TEN/Epic)
10. MORGAN WALLEN, “7 Summers” (Big Loud-Republic)

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 26, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ready for some more quarantunes and how they’re doing on the radio? Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

ANOTHER WEEKND INSIDE: As predicted, The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” holds at #1 for a third week on the Top 40 radio chart, while also remaining at #4 and #6 on the Rhythmic and Hot AC charts, respectively. This looks to be its last week on top, as a couple of top gainers from Camila Cabello and DaBaby (#2) and Doja Cat (#3) will be aiming for pop purr-fection next month.

Bouncing from 43-29 on the list, Sam Smith and Demi Lovato‘s “I’m Ready” gives the two performers their 14th and 16th top 40 singles, respectively. Megan Thee Stallion‘s “Savage” also bolts from 46-40, becoming her second top 40 entry at the format. The rapper previously charted with the Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Hot Girl Summer”, which reached #38 last October.

The new single from Tyga also marks the format debut of Curtis Roach, who land at #47 with “Bored In The House”. This track is another success story for the popular video app TikTok and quarantine-related releases, with Roach’s original clip going viral on the platform before catching Tyga’s attention. K-pop star Jackson Wang is also new to the top 50 with “100 Ways”, which checks in at #50. Wang was previously included on record label 88rising’s collaborative single “Walking”, which peaked at #37 in January.

Next week’s crop of charting releases could include emerging titles from JoJo and Sam Fischer, which are just below the top 50.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 19, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Ready for some more quarantunes and how they’re doing on the radio? Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

THE SECOND WEEKND: Gaining over 200 spins from last week, The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” remains strong at #1 for the second week on the Top 40 radio chart. It climbs a notch to #4 on the Rhythmic radio chart and holds at #6 on the Hot AC radio list this week. With more than 2,200 spins separating “Blinding” from its competition at #2, it could very well earn a third week at #1.

The current collaboration from Diplo, Morgan Wallen and Julia Michaels titled “Heartless” is up from 42-38 this week, just as the different song of the same title by The Weeknd hits recurrent status. It’s Diplo’s sixth solo top 40 single, while also becoming the sixth for Michaels and the first for Wallen, who’s been charting at the Country radio format for several years. Meanwhile, Bazzi lifts from 43-40 with “Young & Alive”, his fourth top 40 entry here. You can find “Heartless” on Diplo’s forthcoming set Thomas Wesley, Chapter One: Snake Oil, due May 29, while “Young” is included on Bazzi’s forthcoming set Lost And Found, due June 19.

Sam Smith and Demi Lovato‘s new collaboration “I’m Ready”, which impacts at the Top 40 format on Tuesday, is well on its way towards a gold medal with a top 50 debut at #43. Megan Thee Stallion is also looking for an Olympic-size win with “Savage”, as it enters at #46 following its viral breakout on the video app TikTok. Another single that emerged from the platform is new at #50: Lil Mosey‘s “Blueberry Faygo” splashes into the top 50 without having officially impacted at the format. “Savage” and “Blueberry” now appear in the top 20 on the Rhythmic chart, with the former also climbing through the same region on the Urban chart.

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (March 8, 2020)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. Sunday’s best-performing records are in the mix and ready for your ears. Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format this week:

HOW DO YOU DUA: Pop star Dua Lipa earns a third week at #1 with the international smash “Don’t Start Now”. In the process, the single eclipses 19,000 spins for the week at the format, and while that number isn’t a record, it’s certainly indicative that “Don’t” still has room to grow.

Demi Lovato quickly jumps into the top 40 after just two days of airplay with “I Love Me”, which starts at #30. This is her 15th top 40 single to date. Lauv‘s “Modern Loneliness” also makes its top 40 entry this week, up 48-40, becoming his seventh top 40 hit. It’s been a big week for the independent performer, who just released his ~How I’m Feeling~ album on Friday.

The duo Surfaces manages to surface at #49 this week with their viral hit “Sunday Best”, their first chart entry at the format. Video app TikTok is responsible for the track’s sudden resurgence, which was originally released 14 months ago. The only other new single in the region is a collaboration from Diplo, Morgan Wallen and Julia Michaels, who start at #50 with “Heartless”. The original version of the song, which doesn’t feature Michaels, narrowly missed the top 50 on the Hot AC survey last fall. (The updated version also debuts at #46 at that format this week.)
