ADD LIB — Brace For (CHR) Impact (June 12, 2018)

Welcome to Add Lib, your Tuesday report on POP! Goes The Charts that’s mad about CHR/Top 40 adds, based on the station data provided by Mediabase 24/7 and Add Board. This week: different Tuesday, same Cardi B madness! Plus, the panel is split over its plethora of new pop jams, but two notable collaborations jump ahead of the pack. Let’s add ’em up:

B IS FOR BIGGER: Change can be difficult at times, so for those of you that don’t like the concept, I think you’ll be satisfied with waiting another week before the next new Most Added song is crowned. Meanwhile, this week’s top title at the Top 40 format, now in its second week, is “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5, which is still generating a lot of buzz on the charts for its new remix featuring the previously mentioned Cardi B. This week, it checks in with another 47 stations, down from the 108 it took in on impact. There’s a tie for second place between Cardi B’s “I Like It”, with Bad Bunny and J Balvin, and “Better Now” from Post Malone, as both hits land a solid 36 stations each. All three tracks are racing up the Top 40 chart, though it’s very early on in the annual race for the coveted Song Of The Summer title. Stay tuned to see if any of them capture it (or if another song surprises. You never know!)

Beyond those three singles, plenty of impacting songs scored double-digit adds in this session, led by future Pride anthem “Colour” by MNEK featuring Hailee Steinfeld with 23 stations, coming in fourth place. It looks like it’ll become MNEK’s first top 40 song in two years, as he previously charted with Zara Larsson on the duet “Never Forget You”, reaching #5 at the format that May. It’s also a very good week for “Team”, which has Noah Cyrus and MAX thanking their new team of believers, 18 in all, which starts it in seventh place. Yesterday, it picked up a handful of Hot AC stations as well. Check out the rest of this week’s future hits below!

MOST ADDED — THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN
1. MAROON 5 featuring CARDI B, “Girls Like You” (222/Interscope)
2-T. CARDI B, BAD BUNNY & J BALVIN, “I Like It” (KSR Group/Atlantic)
2-T. POST MALONE, “Better Now” (Republic)
4-T. 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, “Youngblood” (Capitol)
4-T. MNEK featuring HAILEE STEINFELD, “Colour” (Capitol)
6. NOAH CYRUS & MAX, “Team” (RECORDS/RED/Columbia)
7. CHILDISH GAMBINO, “This Is America” (Wolf & Rothstein/RCA)
8-T. DAVID GUETTA & SIA, “Flames” (Big Beat/RRP)
8-T. PHARRELL WILLIAMS x CAMILA CABELLO, “Sangria Wine” (Columbia)
8-T. SABRINA CARPENTER, “Almost Love” (Hollywood)

RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (June 11-12, 2018)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three new hits impacting this week at the Top 40 format:

BTS – “Fake Love” (Columbia)
Album: LOVE YOURSELF 轉 ‘Tear’ (2018)
Past T40 History: The popular K-pop septet has one top 40 song to date: a remix of “MIC Drop”, which peaked at #24 in January.

DAVID GUETTA & SIA – “Flames” (Big Beat/RRP)
Album: TBA (2018)
Past T40 History: Guetta and Sia have reached the top 40 with two collaborations, neither hitting #1. Is the third time the charm?

MNEK featuring HAILEE STEINFELD – “Colour” (Capitol)
Album: TBA (2018)
Past T40 History: Steinfeld has six top 40 songs to date; MNEK’s sole chart hit was 2016’s “Never Forget You”, with Zara Larsson.

Next week: At least five songs are headed for adds next Tuesday, including two collaborations that feature Demi Lovato (“Fall In Line” by Christina Aguilera and “Solo” by Clean Bandit) and a new single from Sabrina Carpenter. Will it be another mess of an impact date? Of course it will! Look out for more on the blog next week.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!
