RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (July 8, 2018)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. We’ve got the lotion for pop commotion: all the notable Top 40 titles that spent some time in the sun in the last few days. Grab a cool drink and check out these radio stats:

“MINE” AND MINE ALONE: In its 20th week in the top 40, “Mine” from 20-year-old newcomer Bazzi advances 2-1. No, it’s not up 20 spins this week, but rather, about 680 detections. The follow-up to “Mine”, a single called “Beautiful”, leaps into the top 50 on the Rhythmic survey this week. Both tunes are taken from the album Cosmic, which made the top 15 on the Billboard 200 list earlier this year. Next Sunday, look for Bazzi to face some strong competition from Ariana Grande‘s “No Tears Left To Cry”, climbing 3-2 and moving quickly. Overall action is slower this week, largely due to the midweek holiday, though numbers should be headed north again in the coming days.

IF I HAD NO LOOTE: As two of last week’s collaborative debuts bolt into the top 40 this week, three new tracks are breaking onto the chart in the lower regions of the top 50. The highest of the three, landing at #48, is the first entry at this format for the New York duo Loote. “Your Side Of The Bed” was co-written by the duo, comprised of college pals Emma Lov Block and Jackson Foote. In the fall of last year, the duo’s most well-known composition to date, “No Promises” by Cheat Codes featuring Demi Lovato, managed a #6 peak in September after a slow run up the survey. Just below them, the English trio Years & Years checks in at #49 with their first entry in just over three years, “If You’re Over Me”. It’s the first U.S. single from their recent release Palo Santo. Their only other chart single to date, “King”, went to #37. (“Desire” impacted at the format several months later, but just missed the top 50.) Lastly, a format mainstay hops aboard at #50 with his third entry of 2018. Justin Timberlake is new with “SoulMate”, a one-off release (or so we think) that made its debut on Tuesday. It got as high as #3 on iTunes several days ago.
