RADIO REPORT: What’s Popping At Top 40 Radio This Week (April 29-30, 2019)

It’s time once again to analyze the airwaves and find out if your favorite new releases will be lighting up your local station’s playlist this week. Which tunes will climb to the top and which ones will hit a stop? Here are three impacting tunes this week at the Top 40 format:

JUICE WRLD – “Hear Me Calling” (Grade A/Interscope)
Album: Death Race For Love (2019)
Past T40 History: Dreaming of his second big pop radio hit, this artist’s “Lucid Dreams” peaked at #7 last October and November.

Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: Garrix has four top 40 entries to date, two of which have just missed the top ten. Will this be the single to do it?

TAYLOR SWIFT featuring BRENDON URIE – “ME!” (Republic)
Album: TBA (2019)
Past T40 History: Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” cleared the whole panel on Add Board in one week. Will it happen again?

Next week: K-pop sensation BLACKPINK looks to kill it on next week’s adds report. We’ll see if anyone else joins them.

Which of these new songs would you like to see top the charts? Let me know!

RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (April 28, 2019)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. May you have a good end of April, because a new month is coming on Wednesday… and as the calendar changes, so do the charts! Here’s what’s popping at the Top 40 format:

SECONDS DON’T SUCK: From their upcoming set Happiness Begins, the Jonas Brothers are steady at #1 for the second week on the Top 40 chart with “Sucker”. The international hit also moves to #8 at Hot AC radio, while climbing to #34 and #46 on the AC and Rhythmic formats. Yes, the Jonas Brothers have a song on the Rhythmic chart for the first time ever. Meanwhile, the trio’s track “Cool” is up from 19-17 at Top 40 and 31-27 at Hot AC, which should make the top ten on both formats by the summer.

The bigger story of the week, however, is the massive debut of “ME!” by Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie, which bows at #24. The collaboration is the 28th top 40 hit for Swift and the first solo entry for Urie, who fronts Panic! At The Disco; the act ranks at #22 this week with “Hey Look Ma, I Made It”. “ME!” also lands at #18 on the Hot AC chart. This hit is not to be confused with “Me” from Paula Cole, who took her track to #11 and #20 on the Hot AC and CHR/Pop charts, respectively, in May 1998. Billie Eilish‘s “Bad Guy” makes a solid move from 42-35, earning her a second top 40 hit, while Travis Scott and The Weeknd bounce from 44-40 in the countdown with “Wake Up”. It marks Scott’s sixth entry in the region and The Weeknd’s 11th. Hilary Duff‘s song with the same name spent a week at this position when it peaked in August 2005.

Lil Dicky‘s all-star collaboration “Earth” revolves around the #46 spot, marking the first of this week’s top 50 entries. The song had a jolt in airplay earlier this week due to the annual Earth Day celebration, but has fallen off since the holiday. Push Baby, who got a #6 hit (“Me And My Broken Heart”) in June 2014 as Rixton, checks in at #49 with “Mama’s House”. It’s their first chart song under the new name, which follows the band’s proper relaunch earlier this year. Lastly, starting at #50, Dan + Shay‘s “Speechless” breaks onto the list. It’s a former #1 song on the country chart and the duo’s second to cross to the pop format following “Tequila”.
