RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Fourteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
COREY HARPER – “Don’t Hate Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Starting things off this week, we have the first appearance by a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter that’s been releasing music for several years. This cut was co-written by two blog friends, Donovan Woods and Todd Clark, and it sounds like a future radio hit.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
MATT SIMONS featuring BETTY WHO – “Dust” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fifth appearance / Eighth appearance

Though both Simons and Who are no longer in the major label system, they sure are making some great music together. This single from the former’s album After The Landslide, released last Friday, is a super soft pop collaboration that should continue to do well.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
WRABEL – “Love To Love U” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Two weeks ago, this performer’s new version of a prior single (“I Want You”) was one of the top picks on that edition of the Rewind. So, it’s not a surprise to see him back on here so soon with another original track, a soulful pop cut that showcases his many talents.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
ASTN – “Tidal Wave”
JOHNNY STIMSON – “Flower”
OMAR APOLLO – “Friends”
SPENCER BARNETT – “Suicide Note”
VINCINT – “Please Don’t Fall In Love”
ZAYDE WØLF – “Cold-Blooded”

RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Five

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
MAGDALENA BAY – “Money Lover” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Sixth appearance

The duo of Matthew Lewin and Mica Tenenbaum might love money, as their latest song title clearly suggests, but the two artists get some love from creating quality music as well. The angelic release and its music video, a nostalgic early 80’s-inspired clip, are solid.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
MATT SIMONS – “Open Up” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Fourth appearance

Written with Dan Romer, Emily Warren and Scott Harris, the same team behind Simons’s single “We Can Do Better”, the new song from his upcoming album After The Landslide (out April 5) has a charming radio-ready sound that’s perfect for the spring weather.

PICK OF THE WEEK: THREE
TAYLOR NOELLE – “End Of The Night” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance

Noelle might be a new name to the Rewind, but she’s been writing and performing for several years now. The Nashville performer’s latest single is a pop gem that stands out as one of the top new releases of the week. At the end of the night, we’re definitely hooked.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
GABBIE HANNA – “Medicate”
J. HUMAN – “Wish You Would”
JORDAN XIDAS – “Martyr”
KAT SAUL – “Middle Name”
STIRLING – “Let You Down”
VELLEV – “Imagine It”

_____

ASHLEY TISDALE – “Voices In My Head” (Spotify)

Notes: “Bop To The Top” never felt more appropriate. Tisdale’s latest track, her first original song release since 2013, is very strong.

_____

CHELSEA CUTLER – “Love You More” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Eighth appearance
Notes: With a choice song from her second of two releases this year, Sleeping With Roses II, the slow burner has a pretty nice build.

_____

DALLASK – “Looking For Your Love” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: First appearance
Notes: Known for his top remixes for some of the biggest artists in the business, his newest dance hit has a great radio-ready sound.

_____

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY: Releases For The Week of September 30, 2016

Morgan on the move.

Morgan on the move.

Whether you stream your music, or spin some Vinyl, there are plenty of choices on the schedule this week. Here are the notable albums and singles looking to make a few musical memories:

WILLIAM MICHAEL MORGAN — Vinyl (iTunes)
This Mississippi newcomer has been in the top 50 on the Country radio chart for nearly a year, and he could finally reach #1 this week with debut single “I Met A Girl”. The 23-year-old’s first studio album is sale-priced, which may give it a slight advantage. It should be, at the very least, top five on the Country Albums survey.

BON IVER — 22, A Million (iTunes)
The winner of Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in 2012 returns with their third studio album. It’s likely to generate a nice amount of sales and streams during the week. Their 2011 album debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, and this one will be aiming for the top.

THE MOWGLI’S — Where’d Your Weekend Go? (iTunes)
The California rockers are back with a new album, featuring the single “Bad Thing”. That song has been streamed over 400,000 times to date. Will this become their first album to break the top 100? Stay tuned!

More albums out this week: Alex & Sierra‘s As Seen On TV (iTunes), BANKS‘s The Altar (iTunes), Bob Weir‘s Blue Mountain (iTunes), Regina Spektor‘s Remember Us To Life (iTunes), Solange‘s A Seat At The Table (iTunes), Van Morrison‘s Keep Me Singing (iTunes), Yellowcard‘s Yellowcard (iTunes)

More EPs out this week: FLETCHER‘s Finding Fletcher (iTunes), Hayley Kiyoko‘s Citrine (iTunes), Matt Simons‘s When The Lights Go Down (iTunes)
