RADIO ACTIVE — A Weekly Chart CHRonicle (November 11, 2018)

Welcome to Radio Active, a Sunday evening report from POP! Goes The Charts that gets to the chart of the matter: all the highlights from the CHR/Top 40 chart, as published by Mediabase 24/7 and Mediabase Research. The “Woman” of the year strikes again, as a handful of new entries score divine debuts at the bottom. Time to see what’s popping this Sunday:

ALL THAT’S “NEXT”: There’s a whole lot of Ariana Grande on this week’s Top 40 chart, as “God Is A Woman” holds at the top for a second week, “Breathin” rises from 9-8 and “Thank U, Next” debuts way up at #39, giving the performer an updated total of 19 top 40 hits since her first in 2013. Though “God” will depart the top spot next week, with “Happier” by Marshmello x Bastille (up 4-2 on the current chart) taking its place, there’s still plenty of Grande to go around. Meanwhile, parent album Thank U, Next is due before the end of the year.

“LIFE” MOVES PRETTY FAST: Beyond Grande’s chart action, a pair of new songs by foreign acts land in the top 50. The higher of the two singles is “Ruin My Life” by Zara Larsson, entering at #43. The Swedish star has a half-dozen top 40 tunes to date, with “Never Forget You” (a duet with MNEK) scoring the highest with its #5 peak during the spring of 2016. A few spots lower, checking in at #47, “Love Someone” gives Danish act Lukas Graham their fourth chart entry, with the previous three entering the top 40. It was 2-1/2 years ago that “7 Years” spent a week at #1 at the format, which remains their biggest international song. Will either entry return their respective acts to the top ten, or will the songs achieve lower peaks in the top 20 or top 40? We’ll find out next year.
