RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/29 – 2/4/17

Record Rewind - February 5, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “Like Someone In Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Well, the fabulous and talented Major can now say he’s been on the Rewind with both original tracks and covers. Over the years, this song has been released in versions by Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and more. You can add this remake to the good ones.

_____

STOLAR – “Paralyzed” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The music of New York City’s Jay Stolar has been featured on both our SoundCloud and Spotify feeds in the past, but he’s beginning a new chapter with the release of his latest song. The R&B-influenced pop tune brings the edge, but also feels accessible. Good work.

_____

SVRCINA – “Deeper” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Nashville’s Molly Svrcina last appeared on the Rewind in July with “Island”, but the young singer is building some momentum in the streaming world. To date, she’s accumulated over five million plays on Spotify. A soaring vocal and bold production make this shine.

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/1 – 1/7/17

Record Rewind - January 8, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Traces” (Spotify)
After another solid push from Spotify’s set of New Music Friday playlists, this Los Angeles singer/songwriter is certainly feeling the love from the streaming world. I really dig the production on this song, and there’s definitely some replay value. White knows a hit!

_____

MARTIN LUKE BROWN – “65 Roses” (iTunes) (Spotify)
After releasing “Shadow & Light” a little under two months ago, Brown starts off 2017 on a fantastic note with a deeply personal cut that was inspired by two people affected by cystic fibrosis. Though it’s a very sad experience, a beautiful track came out of that pain.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
AVI ON FIRE – “So Far Away From Me” (SoundCloud)
LONELY BENSON – “Can’t Put You Down” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 11/27 – 12/3

Record Rewind - December 4, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ADAM FRIEDMAN – “Sad” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Santa Monica singer and songwriter Friedman returns with his follow-up to “Lemonade”, and how sweet it is to have him back. This track had a fair amount of love from Spotify’s New Music Friday playlists a few days ago, including the popular U.S. list. Get happy!

_____

MATT WOODS – “If You Forget Me” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This gorgeous ballad from Woods is off his EP called Ain’t No Use, which is amazing from start to finish. Of course, I’ve spent some time with his past material, and his voice is just spectacular. He could sing the phone book and I would stream it. Yes, it’s that great.

_____

PUBLIC – “4Her” (iTunes – n/a) (Spotify – n/a)
This Cincinnati group quickly hit the top of Hype Machine’s Twitter list a few days ago, and that should bode well for their single on SoundCloud (and more services soon, hopefully!) “4Her” has a fresh and fun vibe that should appeal to indie pop and tropical fans.

_____

WANDERER – “Make You Feel” (iTunes) (Spotify)
I wandered into this Arizona performer’s catalog earlier this year, and I’m certainly glad I did. Adam Simons has a great set of songs with his C I T Y EP, one of which was highlighted on the Rewind in September: “Call Me Crazy”. Call me a big fan of his music so far.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
LONELY BENSON – “Leave You Mama” (SoundCloud)
P O P F I L T E R – “In Love Again” (SoundCloud)
THE DUNWELLS – “It’s OK This Time” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/30 – 11/5

Record Rewind - November 6, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “The First Thing You See” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s a Rewind entry that’s kind of new, but not exactly. A live version of this track appears on an EP from Major that came out in January 2014 on Virgin Records, and it’s actually gaining at streaming services. However, this new mix is super smooth and lovely.

_____

CAPE CUB – “Heat Of The Night” (iTunes) (Spotify)
As the weather continues to get colder and colder, the more we miss the “Heat” from those glorious summer days. However, a new EP from Chad Male’s glorious project is certainly going to whip up some warmth for the blogs. Wake up to 6AM and a great single.

_____

KINGSBURY – “Easy” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Here’s a new name from Nashville, a pop duo consisting of Caroline Kingsbury and Will Hess. A few years ago, Kingsbury, the solo performer, released some music as The Red Headed Indian. Now, the two make it sound so “Easy” to craft a cool cut for the blogs.

_____

THE NEW COAST – “Melbourne” (iTunes) (Spotify)
The London duo of Nick Blyth and Chris Cheater last appeared on the Rewind in August with “Slow Down”, but they certainly have done the opposite of that with the Friday release of an EP titled Paraga Beach. The guys have carved out a great sound for the set.

_____

WHISSELL – “Old Souls, Young Bodies” (iTunes) (Spotify)
About a month ago, Nashville’s Lauren Whistle made it onto the Rewind with a great track called “Pain Of Love”. Her debut EP is a couple of months away, but that lush pop sound and pleading vocal in her latest release are enough to keep me satisfied (for now!)

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
GRETA ISAAC – “Don’t Tell” (SoundCloud)
HUSKY – “Late Night Store” (SoundCloud)
LONELY BENSON – “Let Me Know” (SoundCloud)
SAM TINNESZ featuring YACHT MONEY – “Play With Fire” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 8/28 – 9/3

Record Rewind - September 4, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BEN HOBBS – “Animals” (iTunes) (Spotify)
London singer Hobbs has unveiled a pretty consistent set of songs since his debut late last year, and I’m really digging the newest single from him. The pretty piano-led ballad is built around a strong hook, and releases a nice energy in its fervent drum section.

_____

CLAIRITY – “Words Like Weapons” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Teenage Tennessee singer Claire Wilkinson may be out of the major label system after an EP and one additional single, but there continues to be a buzz from her independent singles at streaming services. Her new ballad is a quality sound with great potential.

_____

GRAHAM COLTON – “Ring Around Your Heart” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Colton’s music has always been a favorite of mine, including his one #1 on my chart, 2008’s “Best Days”. In fact, his track “Where You Wanna Go” made the Rewind back in July. His masterful folk pop sound and accessible lyrics are perfect for the fall months.

_____

KYKO – “Horizon” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This jam was, by far, my most anticipated independent release of the week. South London singer and musician Scott Verrill must know how to bottle up sunshine in a song, because he does it so well. The tropical pop tune lights up the last few days of summer.

_____

MIKEY WAX – “Helium” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s been a moment since this New York singer was on my radar. In January 2012, he spent a couple of weeks on my top 40 with a song called “Counting On You”. His latest offering is a punchy pop single with a positive message for those in difficult situations.

_____

TEN FÉ – “Turn” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan, based in London, have had a few tracks make it to my SoundCloud page and Spotify playlists in the past. They’ve also received some solid support from Spotify’s main lists. The indie rock track is simple, but with a clever core.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
LONELY BENSON – “Silly Girl” (SoundCloud)
MOOSE LIGHT KINGDOM – “Parachute” (SoundCloud)
X&Y – “Secrets” (SoundCloud)
