RECORD REWIND 2019: PGTC Picks, Week Sixteen

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite small label and independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

PICK OF THE WEEK: ONE
BENEDICT CORK – “Funny How Things Change” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance

This English performer’s previous single “Fear Of Lonely” was noted on an edition of the Rewind about a month ago, but this single also caught my ear pretty quickly. Slowing it down with a classic soft pop release, Cork’s cut feels ready for radio and the big screen.

PICK OF THE WEEK: TWO
BLAKE ROSE – “Best Of Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Third appearance

Australian singer Blake Rose hasn’t “Lost” his momentum on our weekly recap, though that was his last title to appear on here. The latest of his three released singles so far stays firmly in his comfortable pop/rock lane, but with a more pronounced alternative feel.

_____

_____

KYAN PALMER – “Pretend That You Love Me” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Second appearance
Notes: Palmer’s debut release Burn Mona Lisa is full of quality pop selections, but the current single from it is a scorching fall jam.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “The Real Thing” (Spotify)
Previously on the Rewind: Seventh appearance
Notes: PGTC favorite Reynolds returns with another nice pop production that marries an acoustic sound with a quirky dance twist.

_____

LAUV featuring JULIA MICHAELS – “There’s No Way” (Spotify)

Notes: Impacting at Top 40 radio early next month, the independent Lauv and Republic’s Michaels have a hit in this dynamic duet!

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 10/29 – 11/4/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ALY & AJ – “I Know” (Spotify)
Well, if you asked me in the beginning of the year, I wouldn’t have thought that this duo would be making some of the best music of 2017, but, as far as female-led pop goes, they’ve had some cool tunes. The retro-tinged hit makes for a nice part of a fall soundtrack.

_____

EDEN XO featuring TRAVIS MILLS – “Say That Again” (Spotify)
I’ll always be sad that “Too Cool To Dance” didn’t fully translate at Top 40 radio, even if it hit the top ten on my own chart, though I am glad to see this performer back in action with another pop bop. “Say” is instant and catchy; it’s a natural fit for any CHR station.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Money For Tonight” (Spotify)
For the playful pop fan in all of us, we have the newest single from singer and songwriter Reynolds, who was previously featured on the Rewind with “Friday Saturday Sunday” five months ago. Working his magic, he carves a nice niche for himself in the pop scene.

_____

For more great new music, these songs are worth a listen…
FUTURE FATHERS – “False Information” (SoundCloud)
LO – “Good Good” (SoundCloud)
LOUISA WENDORFF – “Wildfire” (SoundCloud)
WHOLE DOUBTS featuring KEVIN GARRETT – “Leave” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 6/4 – 6/10/17

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

ANDREW BELLE – “Down” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Seems like we’ve had a lot of radio singles with the word “down” in their titles recently, so I guess it’s only right to spotlight a digital song that gets “down” with what’s headed up. Of Belle’s set of stand-alone singles during the last year, this is my favorite one so far.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Friday Saturday Sunday” (iTunes) (Spotify)
So far this year, Nashville singer/songwriter Reynolds has appeared as the featured artist on two solid songs, but it’s his first main-credited single for 2017 that serves future pop perfection for the weekend (as if the title wasn’t a dead giveaway.) It’s pretty catchy!

_____

SMALLPOOLS – “Million Bucks” (iTunes) (Spotify)
After parting ways with RCA, this Los Angeles trio is back to rock the charts with their forthcoming independent EP, The Science Of Letting Go. Though this doesn’t approach “Over & Over” or “Karaoke” for me yet, it fits nicely with their usual aesthetic and sound.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
BROADHURST – “Status Quo” (SoundCloud)
Mikey Wax – “Never Letting You Go” (SoundCloud)
Rooney – “Second Chances” (SoundCloud)
Wanderer – “Call Me Crazy (Acoustic)” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/25 – 10/1

Record Rewind - October 2, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BRUNO MAJOR – “There’s Little Left” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Major really impressed me with his last single, “Wouldn’t Change A Thing”, which spread across the blogs shortly after its release in August. Don’t let the title fool you; there’s certainly more left from this budding performer and his neo soul cut. It’s refreshing.

_____

CAPE CUB – “Lifeline” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you don’t know Chad Male’s great project by now, I’ve only written and posted my love for it about a million times. So, would it be alright if I make it a million and one? With another cut from his upcoming 6AM EP, it’s another winner for the indie rock crew.

_____

KYLE REYNOLDS – “Alive” (iTunes) (Spotify)
A little under two years ago, this California singer/songwriter pitched me his EP at the time, Simple Things. Driven by streams of “Miles On My Heart”, it’s done 775,000+ combined plays to date on Spotify. He has a catchy sync song now, and lots of potential.

_____

TIPLING ROCK – “Campus Fashion” (iTunes) (Spotify)
If you detest back-to-school season, or all those midterms coming your way, chances are that you can at least enjoy this A+ single. It comes from a Boston quartet that I’ve enjoyed for some time now, making psychedelic pop sound pretty groovy in 2016. Dig in.

_____

WHISSELL – “Pain Of Love” (iTunes) (Spotify)
It’s always excellent to get a new single from Nashville’s Lauren Whistle, who combines the 60’s soul and grit of Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra with 90’s Alternative girls like Fiona Apple and Tori Amos. You’ll feel pleasure over “Pain” after listening to it.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
JAMES CHERRY – “Break Somebody” (SoundCloud)
KING DECO – “Ready My Lips” (SoundCloud)
ROMA – “Missing Out” (SoundCloud)
SILENT CROWD – “Candy” (SoundCloud)
