RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 1/22 – 1/28/17

Record Rewind - January 29, 2017

Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

AARON TAOS – “Off My Mind” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Taos came onto my radar back in the fall of 2015 with songs like “Hands” and “Simple & Sober”, which got some repost action on my SoundCloud feed. His more pop-driven delivery, while still maintaining the usual indie sensibilities, makes for one enjoyable single.

_____

KEVIN GARRETT – “Little Bit Of You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Well, what do you know? Two weeks in a row, two songs from Garrett. With an EP due next week, titled False Hope, it is a true hope that he delivers with, what I think will be, another excellent set of tracks. That lush vocal and smooth arrangement are just heavenly.

_____

KNGDAVD – “Medicine” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Something told us we needed a prescription for a little pop power this week, and now we’re just itching to get a refill. This New York act continues to impress me, but you already knew that from my support of “Poppies” and “Say My Name” last year. It’s a good one.

_____

RUSS MACKLIN featuring KYLE REYNOLDS – “Natural” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Macklin is a new name on the Rewind, but Reynolds was last on here about four months ago with a sync song called “Alive”. If you’re familiar with that tune, he takes a bit of a musical leap here. Luckily, both Macklin and Reynolds put in some super work on this jam.

_____

For more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
Cody Lavaas – “Lie” (SoundCloud)
Jeffrey James – “Hand Grenade” (SoundCloud)
Jenna Kyle – “Dust” (SoundCloud)
Satellite Mode – “Secrets” (SoundCloud)
Smith & Thell – “February” (SoundCloud)
Tom Speight – “Willow Tree” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 9/18 – 9/24

Record Rewind - September 25, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

AARON KRAUSE – “Thinkin Bout You” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Krause continues to see huge streaming stats for his 2013 cover of “Every Breath You Take”, but his new pop gem might just take your breath away. He’s been honing his craft as a writer/producer, and this cut is a great achievement for the Nashville musician.

_____

DENNY WHITE – “Psycho” (available October 7)
He tasted sweet success with “Sweetness”, and he was too cool for school with Golden Coast’s “Recess”. Now, White’s going crazy on the piano and the percussion with his haunting pop track, which comes just a month before Halloween. Spooky. It’s very good.

_____

KNGDAVD – “Poppies” (iTunes) (Spotify)
This New York City duo is bringing the heat with their fantastic future pop sound. “Say My Name” was featured on the Rewind in mid-July, and “Poppies” blooms in all its rhythmic, yet rock-driven glory. Led by guitar and vocal, their music is out of this world.

_____

MACKENZIE THOMS – “Shout” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Thoms has been a regular on my blog and playlists for over a year now with songs like “Conviction” and “Do Me All Again”, and if you’re thinking this is an Isley Brothers or Tears For Fears cover, think again. This slick sound is ready to be blasted on the radio.

_____

MULLALLY – “Wonderful” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Singer Connor Mullally has already seen massive love for his previous singles, “Overdose” and “Troubled Love”, and the Norfolk performer isn’t done adding to his collection of super songs yet. Combining soul and a bit of tropical pop, it certainly works here.

_____

RAINSFORD – “Too Close” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Los Angeles’s Rainey Qualley last appeared on the Rewind in July, when “S.I.D. (Sunshine In December)” first debuted. The sun’s certainly shining in September too, as her new jam hits the blogs. Regardless of genre, Qualley’s voice draws you in. It’s excellent.

_____

TAY SALEM – “Threads” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Salem first made the Rewind in mid-July; that’s when he gave us a dose of “Iron”. Now, the London-based singer returns with the next taste of his Night Mill EP, due October 7. The powerful track blends indie rock and R&B, creating a lush musical experience.

_____

For more great new music, and there was a lot of it this week, these tunes are worth a listen…
ALLIE & IVY – “Best Friends” (SoundCloud)
COSMOS & CREATURE – “Young” (SoundCloud)
KATELYN TARVER – “What Do We Know Now” (SoundCloud)
KIAH VICTORIA – “Titivating” (SoundCloud)
OYSTER KIDS – “40 Nights” (SoundCloud)

RECORD REWIND: PGTC Picks, 7/17 – 7/23

Record Rewind - July 24, 2016

Our new Record Rewind is about highlighting the top new songs that you may have missed, or should discover, from many of my favorite independent acts out there. If you like what you see, let me know what you think!

Across the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…

_____

BEST NIGHT EVER – “Fire Me Up” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Tropical vibes for a cause? Yes, it’s true. The Trevor Project (U.S.) and Kids Help Phone (Canada) are earning the proceeds from sales and streams of this song. So, feel good about digging that summery sound, and feel better knowing that kids are aided by it.

_____

KNGDAVD – “Say My Name” (iTunes) (Spotify)
They may be lacking a few vowels in their name, but this New York City duo makes up for it with some punchy pop songs that will get you energized. Their latest tune sounds like a sync waiting to happen; don’t be surprised if you hear it on TV soon. Get into it!

_____

LAVOY – “Smile” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Though they released their first EP two years ago, it wasn’t until earlier this week that I discovered this Spokane quintet and that nostalgic 80’s pop influence shining like a sunny afternoon. If you’re looking for a song that will perk you up, this is a great listen.

_____

PIERRE STEMMETT – “No Sweat”
Stemmett’s been on my radar since last year, when he uploaded a single called “Sleep Anthem”. So, if you’ve been sleeping on the South African singer up until now, you should probably take a listen to his tropical pop jam. “No” leads his upcoming EP, Outset.

_____

STEFAN ALEXANDER – “Skeleton” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Making a good first impression with his debut single, Alexander searches through the shadows of a love gone wrong to find a way to begin anew in this dark cut. Early contender for a new Halloween playlist? I think so. I’m looking forward to more of his songs.

_____

THE ELECTRIC SONS – “Cool”
Last year, I discovered a handful of great tracks from this Atlanta band, including “Into The Night” and “Tell Me What To Say”. It takes good timing to release a single called “Cool” during a major heat wave, and that electropop goodness is some needed relief.

_____

YOUNG SUMMER – “Paused Parade” (iTunes) (Spotify)
Earlier this month, I featured “Alright” from this D.C. singer in the Rewind. Now, musical chameleon Bobbie Allen returns with a light piece of pleasurable pop, influenced by jazz elements. If a picture of a summer day came alive, it would sound like this track.

_____

For more new music, these tunes are worth a listen…
ANNA MAE – “Just Watch” (SoundCloud)
JAMES DELANEY – “Please Don’t Go” (SoundCloud)
STALGIA – “In The Trees” (SoundCloud)
SVRCINA – “Island” (SoundCloud)
